Former Chief Speechwriter and Deputy Policy Director for Rudy Giuliani's 2008 Presidential Campaign John Avlon in another one of his false equivalency Wingnuts segments compares the attempted citizen's arrest of Karl Rove by Code Pink to the Hutaree militia planning to attack and kill law enforcement officers and their families.
CHETRY: So, let's start with wingnuts on the left this week. You're calling out a group that we saw a lot of during the George W. Bush administration, anti-war group, Code Pink. What happened this time?
AVLON: That's exactly right. Code Pink sort of blasts from the past, engaging in the kind of street theater confrontational tactics this time at a book signing by Karl Rove, former Bush advisor, in Beverly Hills. They tried to do a citizens arrest and it was all caught on tape.
CHETRY: And a little bit of what happened, and how Rove was able to get in what you call the best line of the night. Here's a look.

Comparing Code Pink to militia members that were plotting to kill cops? That's rich. My God these people are grasping at straws at this point.
I would say at most they're comparable to those shouters at town hall meetings regarding health care insurance reform.
But turdblossom was part of the team that kept protesters silent because they controlled the mike, threw people out for wearing t-shirts, and had "free-speech" zones clearly away from the political events for 8 years...
And in this case it wasn't the Code Pink people who broke the law so much as turdblossom et al, so that would make turdblossom comparable to the militias.

I would have to respectfully disagree with the assessment that he was comparing the two groups directly. He clearly stated that the Hutaree group was "a whole different breed". At no point during the segment did he say anything that would indicate that the two groups are in any way comparable.
I would like to point out that the purpose of the segment is to show "wingnuttery" on both ends of the spectrum. He simply gave two examples, one from each side, and commented on each of them separately. He did not connect the two stories in any way. The connection of the stories was made by the contributor of the story.
It is precisely this kind of foolishness that makes those of us on the left look like fools in the eyes of those who are in the middle. False connections, made up conspiracies, these are some of the reasons we are dismissed as, well, wingnuts. Let's act like we have some goddamned sense.
There's such a thing as false parallelity, and allowing the listener to draw conclusions based on basic causal relationships.
That's how how plausible deniability works, so booshco can later say they never connected 9-11 to Saddam, they just mentioned them in close parallelity in any number of speeches.
