Brad Benson, 44, was arrested on Monday morning on felony charges of possession of child pornography. Benson isn't a drag performer or a trans individual, as the fear-mongers on the right were probably hoping. Benson was a Republican candidate in Tuesday's Granbury city council election.

Benson was arrested on November 6th, one day before the election. Hood County Sheriff Roger Deeds confirmed that to Newsweek.

"I can confirm he was arrested by the District Attorney's Office yesterday and charged with two felony child pornography charges; he should have a bond set today," Deeds told the outlet.

The Republican Party of Hood County (RPHC) yanked its support for Benson after more details about the charges were revealed.

"Crimes of this degree tear at the heart and soul of society, and we condemn them in the strongest terms," an RPHC spokesperson said. "The Republican Party stands for the conservative, family values and the protection of children. These heinous acts are antithetical to what Republicans stand for."

He was very well-established in his area.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports:

According to information on his campaign website, Benson said that Granbury has been his home and place of business for over 20 years.

Benson’s family business is Cinergy Cinemas with nine theater/entertainment complexes in four states.

In 2018, Benson was named as a lifetime member of the Granbury volunteer fire department for his many years of answering emergency calls throughout Hood County. He also served on the Granbury Airport Advisory board and the Hood County Crime Stoppers Board.

He describes himself as a “genuine conservative both fiscally and ideologically.”

Yeah, no. He found a perfect place to call home with the Republican Party.

It makes sense because Republicans are obsessed with other people's private and personal lifestyles. This seems to be a theme with them -- a pattern that was years in the making.
