Update: Cochran responded to the criticism, says the clip was misleading. You be the judge.
I know Thad Cochran has his own primary woes, but you'd think he or someone on his staff would be paying attention to Eric Cantor's electoral demise earlier this week, right?
Evidently not. When asked about what implications Cantor's loss might have for his own runoff chances, Cochran responded by telling the interview he didn't know what he was talking about.
Cochran then went on to say he hadn't followed the Cantor race closely at all and couldn't comment on what might have happened there.
Even with the benefit of the doubt, this looks clueless. Here's a guy who is locked in a runoff battle with an extreme far-right Tea Party candidate, and he's shrugging over a stunning upset of the second most powerful Republican in the House of Representatives?
With interviews like this, Cochran may as well concede the runoff now. Step it up, Senator, or just hand the reins to the white supremacist thug you're running against.
