As with Ron Johnson and Wisconsin, I blame the state of Maine for repeatedly sending this type of person to Washington. Political expediency always triumphs right and wrong with Susan Collins.

She really might be the most disgusting Senator in the U.S. Senate, which is saying a lot.

Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, on Thursday came out against the decision to bar former President Donald Trump from the state's ballot.

"Maine voters should decide who wins the election – not a Secretary of State chosen by the Legislature," said Collins, who is known as a moderate Republican who has hesitated to support Trump in the past, in a social media post. "The Secretary of State’s decision would deny thousands of Mainers the opportunity to vote for the candidate of their choice, and it should be overturned."

Maine Secretary of State Shanna Bellows announced Thursday that she had deemed Trump's petition to appear on the primary ballot in the state invalid.

Bellows cited the 14th Amendment's provision barring insurrectionists from holding public office as her reasoning.

Collins' tweet last night.

And Collins in 2021, when the narrow window for Republicans to criticize Trump was still open.
