If you turn on Fox News for even a minute this week, you will probably see a host, a guest or both exploiting tragedy in Israel in order to score political points against President Joe Biden. Who, last I checked, is the president of the U.S., not Israel.
Jessica Tarlov, the lone liberal cohost of The Five, seemed fed up with it. First, she addressed the phony right-wing poutrage over Biden not being on camera. We know performative actions are most important to MAGA world but Biden obviously thinks he has more important work to do behind the scenes.
Tarlov made that point. “There was a joint statement that came out last night signed by the U.S., France Germany, Italy coming together speaking out in support of Israel. Bibi Netanyahu has thanked President Biden for his support. The Israeli ambassador to the US. The Israeli ambassador to the U.N,” she said. She added that the White House is now lit up in the Israeli flag colors, “something that was upsetting you yesterday."
“So, I don’t really get, besides kind of partisan bickering, what the problem is with how Joe Biden has addressed this,” Tarlov continued. “If it’s good enough for Netanyahu, it should be good enough for you.”
Yes, it should be. But we know that the thing only Fox cares about is weaponization for political power. Even in the middle of tragedy, in the middle of a war, and when the world is on a knife-edge.
