And it's for complaining about his restaurant bill, which was mostly for booze, and probably on his Times expense account anyway.

So New York Times columnist David Brooks, who so rarely tells the whole story, took to social media to complain about his $78 hamburger tab at the Newark airport. And being David Brooks, he turned the bill into an opportunity to pontificate, "This is why Americans think the economy is terrible." (Because your average American who's not eating on the company dime isn't just looking for a Burger King?)

Well! As it turns out, 80 percent of that tab was his bar bill. And Twitter users gleefully pointed it out. They not only pointed it out, they roasted him mercilessly.

Here's Driftglass to throw out the first ball.

And of course, this classic:

The important thing is, David Brooks is the kind of clown to whom the New York Times gives a piece of valuable real estate for his column.

And that says even more about the Times than it does about Brooks.
