For anyone that missed it, there were competing rallies this past weekend over the removal of the Confederate flag from the South Carolina Statehouse at the state capitol, with members of both the Ku Klux Klan and the New Black Panther Party in attendance.

So what could have gone wrong?

Well, apparently a lot went wrong for the Klan members that showed up, as reported by FreakOutNation here: KKK Confederate Flag Defenders Chased Off, Find Safety In A Garage Before Cops Escort Them Out:

The Ku Klux Klan held a rally at the Statehouse Grounds in South Carolina in defense of the Confederate flag and it went terribly wrong for the white supremacist group. Things got so bad that the Klan had to leave with one Klansman whispering to another, “We’ve got problems.” We wonder what gave it away.

Go read the rest of the post for what a mess it truly was. And as Raw Story reported, one of the people there protesting in support of the flag got particularly ugly with the other members of the crowd there: WATCH: KKK supporter uses ‘gorilla’ taunts to mock black crowd during tense Confederate flag rally:

Despite numerous claims by the KKK that their event would be peaceful, videos of Klan members carrying confederate flags and taunting black protesters with ugly racist speech quickly emerged.

In one video, a white man with a shaved head can be seen making ape noises, another threatening to “hang your black *ss.” In another video, another Confederate flag-holding white man tells a person that they are the color of excrement.

According to Sam Tyson, who works digital media for ABC News, about 40-50 Klan members showed up. Members of the Black Panthers and other groups also came to counter them, in the “Countering the Attack on Black Unity” rally, according to local WISTV.

The Nightly Show's Larry Wilmore, who has been outspoken in the past about the Confederate flag being a symbol of hatred, took them on this Tuesday and explained why they've got no arguments left after this disgusting display over the weekend that the flag is supposedly about "heritage."

WILMORE: Some of the loudest proponents of the Confederate flag. Now for weeks now, I've been trying to make clear the hate associated with that flag, but there's nothing clearer than a man holding the Confederate flag high, while making ape noises at a crowd of black people.

What else is there to say?
