Things are tense in Baltimore after teenagers clashed with police:

Baltimore police officials reported that rocks, bricks and other objects were thrown at officers who confronted small groups of protesters outside a shopping mall in the Northwest section of the city Monday afternoon.

Police tweeted that seven officers have been injured in incidents near the Mondawmin Mall in the Reisterstown Road area. Some officer suffered broken bones and one officer is unresponsive, police said in an afternoon press conference.

Television images showed youths jumping on a police cruiser and smashing the car’s windows. Dozens of police officers wearing helmets and riot gear lined up to confront small groups of youths.

“People are continuing to throw rocks and other objects at police officers in the area of Mondawmin Mall and Liberty Heights,” officials tweeted.

The tensions came after the funeral of Freddie Gray at a Baltimore church. Hundreds had gathered to pay their respects to Gray, 25, who died in police custody — making his death the latest flashpoint in a national debate over police treatment of racial minorities.

Authorities shut down transit in the area, including the Mondawmin Metro Station and continued to pour in additional resources as protest groups defied orders to disperse.

Police officials also said Monday they’ve received credible information that various gangs, including the Black Guerilla Family, the Bloods and the Crips, have “entered into a partnership to ‘take-out’” law enforcement officers.
