6.8 Earthquake Off Fukushima, Tsunami Alert Issued

A 6.8 magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Japan, with its epicenter located some 150 kilometers from the city of Namie in Fukishima prefecture.The quake was centered at a depth of about 10km, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

Tsunami advisories have been issued for the Fukushima prefecture, as well as for nearby Iwate and Miyagi prefectures.

NHK says the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant is checking for any damage from the quake.
