I guess CNN thinks Sarah Palin isn't getting quite enough face time on Fox News to pretend anyone thinks she's still relevant in the Republican primary race and to play out their little fantasy about there being a brokered convention this year, which would be a disaster for the Republican Party.

We've still got a lot of the "anyone but Mitt" crowd wishing that another Republican would get into the race, but Palin's name is never one you hear bantered about these days. It's usually either Mitch Daniels, Chris Christie, Paul Ryan or Jeb Bush, all of whom have their own litany of problems. The fact that the idea is completely ridiculous that any of them would jump in this late in the game, especially Palin who was a disaster the last time she was on the ticket, didn't seem faze the talking heads at CNN, or keep them from pushing the notion of Palin as the potential GOP savior during their primary coverage of Super Tuesday last night.

And note to CNN, Palin's not running in 2016 either.

After Newt Gingrich's extremely long, lie packed speech on Super Tuesday the panel covering election night at MSNBC actually did some fact checking on one of Gingrich's lies, that President Obama said he only cares about gas prices because it will harm his chances of being reelected.

Newt Makes False Claim About Obama On Gas Prices:

Speaking at his victory party Tuesday night after winning his home state of Georgia, Newt Gingrich falsely claimed President Obama was "worried about higher gas prices because it will make it harder for [him] to get re-elected."

Here's Newt's full comment:

The president was right the other day. He's so nervous about gasoline prices and energy, that he's done two major speeches. I thought today, in one of the most shallow and self-serving comments by a president I've heard in a long time, he was candid in his press conference. He said, you know, I'm really worried about higher gas prices because it will make it harder for me to get re-elected. I did not make this up. It was just nice to know that the president once again has managed to take the pain of the american people and turn it into his own personal problem.

But President Obama didn't say that.

Here's what he really said at today's White House press briefing, directed at Fox News reporter Ed Henry, who asked the president if he actually wants gas prices to go even higher so he can "wean" the American people off fossil fuels.

Ed, just from a political perspective, do you think the President of the United States, going into reelection, wants gas prices to go up even higher? … Is there anybody here who thinks that makes a lot of sense?

Karoli posted President Obama and Ed Henry's little exchange from earlier here -- Fox News' Ed Henry Smacked Down By President Obama During Presidential News Conference.

The GOP (Day Before) Super Tuesday Musical

FlackCheck.org, a project of Penn's Annenberg Public Policy Center, released a video spoofing the Republican Primaries on Monday, set to the tune of 'Yankee Doodle' and other classic American songs. Titled 'The GOP (Day Before) Super Tuesday Musical', the video shows animated versions of Republican presidential candidates and takes a sharp knife to the tough primary battle and the candidates themselves.

Transcript:

TPM's Live Wire caught this quote from Republican strategist Mike Murphy on Meet the Press this Sunday. Shorter Mike Murphy, please let Mitt Romney do well on Super Tuesday because Santorum and Gingrich are driving Mitt Romney off a cliff to the right.

I think it's too late and the damage is already done. There's no way Romney can walk back the comments he's made over the last year without looking like more of a ridiculous flip flopper than he does already. The late night comics are going to have a field day with him if he tries, thankfully, since we obviously won't be able to count on the likes of David Gregory to do it.

GOP Strategist: Primary Scaring 'The Hell Out Of' Independent Voters:

Republican strategist Mike Murphy said Sunday on NBC's Meet The Press that the primary is alienating independent voters and that the establishment is eager to pick a nominee and move on to the general election.

After Virginia, Murphy predicted, Romney will "be in a pretty commanding place in the nomination. And on behalf of the Republican establishment, it's about damn time. We want this thing to get over, because we see those independent voters eroding as we scare the hell out of them with the histrionics of our primary."

Bob Schieffer apparently didn't find much irony in Newt Gingrich, the same man who equated bilingual education to "the language of living in a ghetto" now bragging about his Hispanic co-chairs in California during their discussion on the upcoming primary races and how Gingrich is likely to fair. He just moved right on to the next topic after Gingrich made these remarks.

GINGRICH: We keep growing, we keep getting stronger. Governor Perry has told me that he thinks I'll carry Texas the last weekend of May by a huge margin, which would lead into California, our biggest state, the following week where we already have 17 Hispanic co-chairs statewide in California and a number of folks in the Korean and Chinese and Thai and Vietnamese communities. So we're reaching out across all of California.

Yeah, they're reaching out alright. Reaching out and demonizing and fearmongering at every opportunity. I guess this is about what we'd expect from the same man who tried to blame President Obama for scaring Latinos away from the Republican Party back in May of 2010 on Greta's show -- Newt defends AZ law: Obama 'engaged in ... a racist dialogue to try to frighten Latinos away from' GOP.

After Mitt Romney barely pulled out a win in the GOP primary in Michigan, as Stephen Colbert noted, Republicans are still desperately looking for the anyone-but-Romney candidate at this late date, with Red State's Erick Erickson humorously writing that maybe it's not too late for Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal to come along and save them:

If Republicans in Washington are not panicked and trying desperately to pull Bobby Jindal in the race tomorrow... the party leaders must have a death wish.

Cut to Bobby Jindal's "electrifying" response to President Obama's State of the Union Address back in 2009.

As Stephen pointed out, if Romney does well on Super Tuesday, conservatives all know what "their duty" is, which is to come together and "support the guy we're hoping is not the guy."
