Chris Wallace ended this interview with Mark Kelly by asking him if he had anything to say to NRA head Wayne LaPierre who was appearing on Fox News Sunday in the interview immediately following his and here's how he responded: Kelly Petitions LaPierre To Get On Board With Background Checks:

Mark Kelly, husband to former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, argued Sunday that the Wayne LaPierre, CEO of the National Rifle Association, should support universal background checks for gun purchases because NRA members support this. The NRA formerly supported the idea but has since changed its position.

"So I hope Mr. LaPierre can think about what would his members want," Kelly said on "Fox News Sunday." "You know, 74 percent of NRA members think it is a very reasonable thing to do to have a background check before buying a gun."

And as Dave already noted here, that call fell on deaf ears as LaPierre's reasons for opposing the checks continue to evolve: LaPierre: 'Obamacare' Means Obama Can't Be Trusted on Gun Control.

Investigators in Arizona on Thursday reportedly recovered a military-style assault rifle in a vehicle rented by a man who they suspect of killing one person and wounding two others at an office building in Phoenix on Wednesday.

Mesa police confirmed that a body found in a Bass Pro Shop parking lot by a landscaper on Thursday morning matched the description of 70-year-old Arthur Harmon, the man suspected in the shooting. The body was found near a rented white Kia Optima that police believe Harmon used to flee after the shooting.

Police said that a handgun was found near the body, and the man had apparently died of a self-inflicted handgun wound.

On Thursday afternoon, Fox 10 KSAZ reporter Andrew Hasbun tweeted a photo of police standing by a white car and holding a military-style rifle in an evidence bag.

"Phoenix police pull assault rifle and ammo out of office shooting suspect Arthur Harmon's car," Hasbun captioned the photo.

There was no confirmation that the weapon in the photo had been used during the crime.

In a statement on Thursday, Phoenix law firm Osborn Maledon said that 43-year-old Mark Hummels, who was a partner at the firm, "will not survive from the shooting."

Police believe that Harmon shot Hummels and 48-year-old Steve Singer after a confrontation at their office on Wednesday over some type of litigation. Singer was pronounced dead later that day. Nichole Hampton, 32, was shot in the hand and was expected to recover.

As the shooting was taking place on Wednesday, National Rifle Association (NRA) chief Wayne LaPierre and Mark Kelly, the husband of former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D), were testifying to the Senate Judiciary Committee about assault weapons, high-capacity clips and universal background checks.

Kelly referenced the incident, describing “what seems to be a shooting with multiple victims with multiple shots fired.”

Better get used to the idea of the coming anarchy people. According to Sen. Lindsey Graham, all of us need to arm ourselves to the hilt, because if he has his way with the upcoming budget cuts, we won't be able to count on the police for help: Graham: We Need Guns Because Of Budget Cuts, Fewer Cops:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) argued on Wednesday that Congress should think twice about passing new gun control regulations because future budget cuts in cities will constrain the size and quality of police forces across the country, thwarting effective response to violence.

Lindsey Graham: GOP-Forced Budget Cuts Will Mean Fewer Cops, So People Need To Arm Themselves:

Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC), who has been among the Senate’s most vocal backers of draconian budget cuts and has opposed increasing funds to put more police officers on the streets, said Wednesday that he will oppose gun violence prevention legislation because budget cuts will mean inadequate police forces to protect the public.

Graham told Baltimore Chief of Police James Johnson and former naval Captain Mark Kelly (husband of former Rep. Gabby Giffords) that he planned to oppose the gun violence measures because people will need high-capacity magazines to compensate for the police response times these austerity measures will force:

GRAHAM: The point is, we have different perspectives on this. The reason I will oppose the legislation, Chief Johnston, is because i respect what your do as a lot — what you do as a law-enforcement officer. Has your budget been cut?

JOHNSON: Yes.

GRAHAM: Do you think it be cut in the future?

JOHNSON: I am optimistic that it is not.

GRAHAM: Well I hope your right, but I can tell people throughout this land, because of the fiscal state of affairs we have, there will be less [SIC] police officers, not more, over the next decade. Response time are gonna be less, not more. So, Captain Kelly, I really do want to get guns out of the hands of the wrong people. I honest to god believe that if we arbitrarily “say nobody in this country can own a 10-round magazine in the future, the people who own them are the kind of people we’re trying to combat to begin with.” There can be a situation where a mother runs out of bullets because of something we do here.
