bomb

Rep. Alan Grayson will join us on Monday for a quick chat before he heads back to DC as we enter the final stages of health care reform. Please check out his website "Grayson Has Guts."

As you know, he says what's on his mind and it's usually calling republicans out for their gutless behavior.

The RNC, GOP and every other republican/teabagger group have targeted Alan Grayson as enemy number one and they want him defeated at all costs.

We're participating in a "Money Bomb" for him that takes place on November 2, so it'll be great that he'll stop by and chat with us during his insanely busy schedule.

See you all tomorrow....

Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert Collaboration On the Way

Don't hate on this Lady Gaga and Adam Lambert collaboration that's in the works:

Talk about a Fame Monster. As details about Adam Lambert's debut album continue to slowly leak out like the helium from Balloon Boy's spaceship, the "American Idol" runner-up dropped a glitter bomb early Tuesday morning (October 20) when he revealed that he's been working with Lady Gaga.

"Yes it's true: I spent yesterday in the studio w the insanely talented and creative Lady Gaga recording a song that she wrote! I love her," Lambert tweeted.

I'm a big defender of both of these oft-maligned 2009 success stories and am excited to hear what they came up with, as well as the rest of Lambert's upcoming album Entertainment, which will have tracks by top tunesmiths Max Martin and Linda Perry.

Investigative journalist Gerald Posner told MSNBC's Dylan Ratigan that the Taliban is using heroin as a tactical weapon against US soldiers. "They understand this is an additional weapon and getting their money, as you said, from the heroin and opium crop and looking at the possibility of hooking Americans not only on the cheap heroin but according to the U.S. intelligence report and picking up conversations, they developed the ability now for smokeable heroin," explained Posner.

The Daily Beast has more details here.

THE GROUNDHOGS 1971 MAIN PHOTO_a4049.jpg
(The Groundhogs - a power trio with no pretense . . go figure.)

When free-form FM radio came into being in the States in the late 1960's, bands like The Groundhogs were just what the disc jockey ordered. A Power Trio with a big following who first got started roughly around 1963, before the honing and refining process started and got them to where they were in 1970 when "Thank Christ For The Bomb", their third album was released. They were a staple on the festival circuit - raw, gutsy and loud; all the right elements.

They never toured extensively in the U.S. though - I think they did one brief foray onto the East Coast (if my somewhat addled memory serves me). But in any event, they were a popular band who are rumored to be still together and still gigging around the UK and Europe.

One of my favorite tracks off this album was Status People.

Still feels pretty fresh.

Tucker Carlson, appearing on Fox News today, drooled all over Newt Gingrich as the guy who's grabbed the Golden Ring of the leaderless Republican Party:

Carlson: Yeah, this is about who's going to lead the Republican Party, not simply who's going to be the chosen presidential candidate in '12. But who's gonna be the soul of the party?

And there are a bunch of different elements here. I think Sarah Palin's presence, as always, brings a lot of excitement, also a lot of drama. And so a lot of stories going into this were about whether she will arrive in the first place, or whether she'll show up, whether she'll talk. Probably not a good storyline for the GOP.

Newt Gingrich, looks to me, is emerging as, certainly the intellectual center of the Republican Party -- the smartest, most energetic guy, and I think last night, kind of, is -- part of the process is solidifying that. Newt Gingrich is, I believe, running for president, and he's certainly the guy people are looking to for ideas in the Republican Party.

The deisgnated Fox liberal, Peter Mirijanian, manages to sound a note of skepticism:

I have some issues with Gingrich. It's kind of like 'Back to the Future' with him. I don't know if he necessarily is the face they want to put forward.

Yeah, you could say that, since a large chunk of the country sees him as a lying, bomb-chucking little troll.

But the best part of the whole exchange comes when Martha MacCallum, the Fox host, compares Gingrich to Ronald Reagan:

MacCallum: You know, Tucker, you think back to Ronald Reagan, who sort of, you know, entertained the idea of running for president for some time, and then kind of, you know, made a comeback later on. Do you see Newt Gingrich having sort of a similar path? Do you think he wants to run?

Carlson: I think Gingrich does want to run. I think Reagan was a little bit differently positioned, perhaps, coming from having served as governor of California than Newt is.

Well, Reagan, never exactly made a "comeback" -- he just was forced to hold off on his presidential aspirations during Nixon's presidency, and immediately continued his ascension up GOP ranks thereafter.

But if you're talking about Republican political comebacks, why not mention the most famous of these: The Tricky One himself? After all, Gingrich's planned comeback from defeat and disgrace is much more reminiscent of that than anything Reagan achieved.

Hmmmm, maybe that isn't the image wants to be projecting.
