Ted Cruz To Support Texas County Clerks In Discrimination Against Gays
June 29, 2015

Senator Ted Cruz joined Savannah Guthrie on The Today Show this morning and immediately backed up his earlier statements - that the two Supreme Court rulings last week were even worse than 9/11. Cruz lies with the best of them when he says Obamacare cost millions of jobs and caused many millions more to lose their jobs --which is, as the British say, poppycock.

Guthrie: You were quoted as saying these two decisions represented some of the darkest twenty four hours in American history and I have to say that took me back. I can think of some pretty dark days in American history, 9/11, Civil war, Dred Scott, is it right up there with you...

Cruz: Look, what happened last week is twice, back to back, the US Supreme Court justices violated their judicial oath....rewrote Obamacare....millions of Americans have lost their jobs, their healthcare to Obamacare and then the next day the court rewrote the Constitution and threw out the marriage laws of all fifty states.

Yes, allowing gays to marry has resulted in over 2900 deaths in the US already, right? No? WTF is this a-hole saying, then? Allowing the ACA to stand has done nothing to hurt this country and if the ruling had gone against it due to a frivolous lawsuit, millions of people really would have lost their health insurance and it possibly would have destroyed the system we have in place now.

She then confronted him on his proposed support of Texas county clerks' ability to deny marriage licenses to gay couples on religious grounds:

"If a state clerk refused to issue a marriage license to an interracial couple, would you agree with that too?" she asked Cruz on Monday morning, noting that people who once objected to interracial marriage used religion to support their beliefs.

"There’s no religious backing for that," Cruz responded.

Guthrie then asked Cruz whether interracial marriage should be a state issue, even though the Supreme Court ruled that interracial marriage bans are unconstitutional.

"Of course not,' Cruz answered. "We fought a bloody civil war over the original sin of our country, that was slavery. Slavery was grotesque and immoral and some 600,000 Americans lost their lives, spilled their blood on American soil to expunge it."

He said that the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments honored "the promise of the Constitution."

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton on Sunday told the state's county clerks that they can refuse to issue marriage licenses to gay couples if they object to same-sex marriage for religious reasons.
