American Family Association (AFA) Director of Issues Analysis Bryan Fischer said on Wednesday that he had gotten a peek into President Barack Obama's soul and discovered a "heart of darkness."

On Tuesday, lawmakers like Reps. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) and Louie Gohmert (R-TX) had showed up at the World War II Memorial to take photographs with a number of elderly veterans after a government shutdown had caused the memorial to be closed.

Although the shutdown happened after Republicans refused to fund the government because Democrats would not kill the health care reform law, Fischer said that the president was personally to blame for stopping the elderly veterans from being able to visit the Word War II Memorial.

"I believe this showdown over these war memorials where President Obama is deliberately, intentionally, grotesquely going out of his way to prevent 91-year-old World War II veterans from visiting the war memorial in honor of the war that they fought," Fischer told the audience of his Focal Point radio show on Wednesday. "This is deliberate on his part, it is perverse and it gives us a peek into his soul. And what we see there is a heart of darkness."

"This is a lot more than outrageous, this is a peek, ladies and gentlemen, into the heart of darkness," he continued. "And I use that term very deliberately."

Fischer later connected the controversy to Obama's recent phone call with Iranian President Hassan Rohani.

"So think about that for just a second: What Barack Obama says to the guy who chants 'Death to America' is 'May God be with you,' but Barack Obama says to 91-year-old vets in wheelchairs that want to visit war memorials, 'You're going to jail, pal.'"

The National Park Service announced on Wednesday that the Word War II Memorial would remain open to veterans during the government shutdown.
