Tom T. Hall never really wrote song lyrics in the sense of moon/june/spoon or whatever. It's always been more like he was telling a little story or just sitting down and having a chat. That's how he earned the nickname "The Storyteller" for the dozens of songs he wrote that became hits for Johnny Cash, George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Waylon Jennings and many more.

Tom turns 80 years old today.
