Who Knew Bristol Palin Was The Daughter Of Martin Luther King?
February 2, 2015

Someone had to take up for Mama Grizzly and her rambling, incoherent speech in Iowa and in particular, her comments about "the man" riding you if your "back is bent." It seems Bristol the brawler is none too happy with the lame-stream media for their treatment of Sarah.

Charlie Pierce:

Here at the Cafe, we noticed that Bristol Palin has had enough of your making fun of her Mom, and the schizophrenic acid flashback Mom delivered to the confused assembly in Iowa last week.

It's amazing - but not surprising - at how many people are making fun of my mom about a comment in her speech in Iowa recently: "‘The Man,' can only ride ya when your back is bent." People went nuts over this, saying it didn't make sense. I wonder how many of them know that analogy came from Martin Luther King Jr? I'd say none of them. Or at least, no one is pointing it out.

OK, first of all, it's a metaphor, not an "analogy." Second, context matters. So does coherence. Here is what Dr. King said:

"Change does not roll in on the wheels of inevitability, but comes through continuous struggle. And so we must straighten our backs and work for our freedom. A man can't ride you unless your back is bent."

And here is what Princess Dumbass Of The Northwoods did with Dr. King's words.

"Another Latin word, status quo, and it stands for, ‘Man, the middle-class every day Americans are really getting' taken for a ride.' That's status quo, and GOP leaders - by the way - you know, the man can only ride ya when your back is bent. So strengthen it. Then the man can't ride ya, America won't be taken for a ride, because so much is at stake and we can't afford politicians playing games like nothing more is at stake than, oh, maybe the next standing of theirs in the next election."

Who knew Bristol was actually the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?
