prayer

I predict that this latest pronouncement by Pat Robertson is going to go over about as well as his supposed secret messages from God about who was going to win the presidential election, or his more recent remarks about casting demons out of used clothing.

Pat Robertson's Prayers Can Make You A Millionaire:

Televangelist Pat Robertson regularly hosts a segment on the 700 Club in which he cures viewers of ailments that God has revealed to him. This is part of positive confession, where Word-Faith pastors like Robertson claim to speak things into existence. Quite regularly it involves money.

For example, today Robertson announced that God is going to grant a lucky 700 Club viewer one million dollars: “God is going to supply a million dollars, somebody is praying right now, right this second, you’re praying for a million dollars and God said, ‘I have heard your prayer, I know your need, and I’m going to supply the need that you requested,’ it’s done, in Jesus’ name.’”

Can't wait to see who it is!

The director of issues analysis of the fundamentalist American Family Association (AFA) is instructing his followers that Jesus wants them to pray for President Barack Obama because he is the "enemy."

During the Monday broadcast of AFA's Focal Point radio show, Bryan Fischer told a story about a woman who had been praying for 18 years than an abortion clinic in Mississippi would be closed. And thanks to a law that requires abortion doctors to have “admission privileges” at a local hospital, this last clinic in the state could be closing in the coming weeks.

Fischer pointed out that prayer may not make work immediately, but Christians should be persistent.

"One of the reason that I pray for President Obama -- and virtually every day pray for him by name -- is that Jesus taught us to pray for our enemies and for those that persecute us," the conservative radio host opined.

"We should be under no illusions here. President Obama is not our friend, President Obama is our enemy. He is seeking to restrict religious liberty. He wants to confine the First Amendment free exercise of religion clause to one hour a week."

"So why do we pray for him?" Fischer asked in conclusion. "And it's genuine, I pray for him, it's genuine. It's not pro forma prayer. I pray for him as genuinely as I pray for anyone else because Jesus taught us to pray for our enemies."

Pat Robertson: Prayer Could Have Stopped the Tornadoes

He's back at it again. Pat Robertson continues to lower the IQ points of anyone unfortunate enough to actually watch his show with this nonsense.

From Right Wing Watch -- Pat Robertson Says People could have Stopped Deadly Tornadoes through Prayer:

Pat Robertson, who earlier called tornadoes a sign of the End Times, was asked today on the 700 Club about the tornadoes that have ravaged parts the country and killed at least thirty-nine people. He said that the storms weren’t a malicious act of God and instead turned it around on the victims, asking, “why did you build houses where tornadoes were apt to happen?”

However, Robertson in 2010 did believe that God used natural disasters to hurt people, saying that Haiti’s earthquake was a result of the Haitian people’s alleged “pact to the Devil.”

Robertson continued that the tornadoes may not have happened if people had prayed for divine intervention, “If enough people were praying He would’ve intervened, you could pray, Jesus stilled the storm, you can still storms.” He also told people who live in areas prone to natural disasters that it’s “their fault, not God’s.”

Dick Durbin takes Tom Coburn to task for his remarks earlier on the Senate floor where he said the American people should pray that somebody can't make the vote tonight.

Durbin: This statement troubles me, and I’m trying to reach him come back to the floor and explain exactly what he meant about a senator being unable to make the vote tonight.

Durbin also went after Coburn and his cohorts and their PrayerCast where they were praying for the health care bill to fail and said that's their right, but asking Americans to pray for something to happen to another member of the Senate was going to far. Of course cowardly Coburn did not respond to Durbin.

Here are Coburn's earlier remarks and Dick Durbin initially asking Coburn to return to the Senate floor to respond.
