C&L's Late Night Music Club With Robin Trower

Title: Somebody Calling
Artist: Robin Trower

It's hump day and I thought some Robin Trower might hit the spot. Much like Hendrix and Marino, Trower wasn't afraid of using effects pedals to expand his sound. His signature Univibe tone is legendary. Perhaps best known for the song Bridge of Sighs, I could listen to him play for hours. Come to think of it...I actually have.

C&L's Late Nite Music Club with Jimi Hendrix at Woodstock

Title: The National Anthem
Artist: Jimi Hendrix

This weekend marks the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, and we're celebrating with Hendrix's rendering of the national anthem. We keep the LNMC apolitical, but I want to at least squeak a shout-out to this as clear evidence that symbols of patriotism are safe, and often things of beauty in the hands of the counterculture.

Zina Saunders has a great personal account of her experience at Woodstock complete with drawings, and I urge you to check it out.

Hendrix Estate: We Have 10 More Years of Music in the Can

Title: Machine Gun
Artist: Jimi Hendrix/Band of Gypsys

Good news for the Hendrix obsessed! Janie Hendrix, Jimi's sister who handles the publishing rights and more for all things Jimi, tells Reuters that there's more Hendrix on the way, including never released performances from Hendrix's 1969-1970 project Band of Gypsys:

The artist's recording catalog appears poised to continue expanding, with Hendrix noting that Experience Hendrix has "10 more years of Hendrix music" in the vaults.

"Currently, I am in the studio transferring tapes of Band of Gypsys performances that have never been released before," she said, referring to Hendrix's last band.

Band of Gypsies, Hendrix's more experimental band which featured bassist Billy Cox and drummer Buddy Miles, only played 5 shows, the last of which is considered a disaster -- Buddy Miles claimed that their manager drugged Hendrix's drink to sabotage the show and bring about demand for a reunion of the Jimmy Hendrix Experience. Presumably the tapes are from the parts of these performances that haven't been released yet, but there's no word yet on what the other 9.99 years of music is.
