Sen. Cornyn repudiates Limbaugh, Gingrich comments on Sotomayor

It seems to be news when any Republican dares to criticize Rush Limbaugh (the titular head of the Republican party) these days, rarer still when it comes from one of their most conservative members who also just happens to be the chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
Asked on NPR yesterday what he thought of recent remarks by Limbaugh and Gingrich who calling Supreme Court nominee Sotomayor "racist" and saying she should withdraw.
"I think it's terrible. This is not the kind of tone that any of us want to set when it comes to performing our constitutional responsibilities of advice and consent....Neither one of these men are elected Republican officials [and] I just don't think it's appropriate and I certainly don't endorse it. I think it's wrong."
And just prior to that, Cornyn was asked what role background influences should play for a Justice, recalling that Samuel Alito made similar comments in 2006 at his hearings as Sotomayor has made.
No doubt an apology to the aggrieved Mr Limbaugh is in the offing. Start the countdown.

The bigger question is whether Rash has the balls to come down on Cornyn.
I'd be surprised if Cornyn apologizes - he shouldn't of course - but I think he can get away without it where others could not.
Notice he did not comment on, or condemn the content of the comments made by Gingrich and Limpballs - that Sotomayor is racist. THAT'S what bothers me about this.

The GOP has created a fascist monster they can no longer control: The right wing terror machine that gets uglier and more caustic on our democracy each day. Cornyn and the like are beginning to realize that alienating your broad base of support in favor of not upsetting you ever shrinking and out of touch base ain't a good deal. In the end, it's about winning elections by capturing moderate votes, not pleasing wackos like Limbaugh.

Cornyn's criticism of Noot and Limb-bow merely reiterate to me that even a broken clock is right, twice daily.
Unfortunately, Cornyn doesn't meet even this low-bar standard. In fact, let's see, is there a moderate Hispanic population in Teh-has? I don't remember recalling this, Senator...
As a fellow Texan, I think I can say confidently that Cornyn is keenly aware of how many Hispanic voters we have in Texas. And by denouncing Limbaugh, he appeals to them.
So what? Are people supposed to applaud him for NOT agreeing with the racists in his Party?
Even Cornyn is smart enough to realize that, if you're a politician from Texas, you bash Latinos--and especially Latinas--at great risk to your political career.
I wouldn't be suprised if this is one time Limbaugh doesn't get an apology.
