Lieberman lies and lies again. And when the local Fox Reporter calls him on the lying, Lieberman just lies some more. But it doesn't matter to him, simply because he's never had to pay any real price for the years of lies and the backstabbing. That's just politics to Joe Lieberman. And not surprising in the slightest is the ass-kissing of Barack Obama. Expect his lips to be firmly planted there for the foreseeable future.

That is part of his problem, he doesn't see what he has done wrong. He was just supporting his "friend" McCain. How long will it be before McCain dumps Joe, can't have that pariah hanging around his neck. No one will ever trust poor old Joe again.
However think I did read where "my friends" Lieberman and Graham will accompany McCain to Bangladesh.
He'll never be able to be interviewed again without being asked at some point something along the lines of "Boy were you wrong, how fo you feel about being so wrong, are you sorry you were such an asshole?"

Tom called him on some of his lies yesterday on Meet the Press. Lieberman kept trying to say that he wants to put all that behind him now. He just couldn't say, I'm sorry. It wouldn't have cost him a thing and it could have been very valuable to him in the future.
His life reminds me of someone trying to keep a marble on a table that has one short leg. He just keeps having to slant the table from side to side to keep his career from falling off the table.

Like clockwork on someone's show every week. Any thinking person would have a two-point strategy they'd follow right about now: shut up and stay out of sight. Joe thinks his only way out is to keep talking and stay visible which is precisely how he managed to dig this enormous hole.

Any Senator who goes to Connecticut campaigning for this worthless backstabbing whore will be risking their own careers.

Joe becomes irrelevant if one of Franken and Martin or both loses. Then the Dems will NOT have the 60 votes to break a filibusterer. I hope they both win but if one loses you might see the end of Lieberman. Let's hope.
If Franken AND Martin win, then Lieberman becomes the 60'th Senator for the Dems. His power would increase dramatically.

It doesn't matter with whom he caucuses. That only matters for determining the majority (and all the committee chairs). On any filibuster vote, to get 60, the dems need his vote. They've got a better chance of getting Olympia Snowe or Susan Collins than Isidore.
The only question is balancing pissing off Joe versus the value of his chairmanship. Considering his complete abdication of responsibility for investigating KBR, Katrina, the Justice Dept., etc. I am very disappointed in the decision made by Obama. (Almost as disappointed as the FISA vote.)
There is no way this calculation makes sense. The only upside for Obama is if this is the first step in rehabilitation of the 2000 Joe Lieberman, who was centrist, but no worse than the Nelsons.
If Dems could control the damn narative and make it clear that the chairmanship is evaluated on how he performed instead of payback for lack of election support, no one would have said two words about it.

Yes, he's all that and more. And one of quite a few like him in Congress. But he's a good politician, and Reid and Obama are good politicians as well. They understand his important position in the Senate, which will remain important until at least 2010. So they just have to deal with him. I think that both Reid and Obama can be ruthless, but not when it hurts their interests. Joe's time will come.
What I find particularly disgusting about JL is the way he blocked the Katrina investigation, preventing the meeting-out of justice to the appropriate individuals. Amazing. I wouldn't cross the street to piss on him if he was on fire.

It's time to get over this Lieberman obsession that most Democrats seem to have. The voters of Connecticut will have an opportunity to vote him out in four years. In the meantime try to follow Obama's lead and realize this isn't about payback at this time -- it's about leading our country in a NEW direction. The tired politics of the past will be over when people on all sides decide that we need to quit this partisan nonsense and move forward. That's what Obama wants and that's what most of the American people want. Lieberman is going to be a key player in getting progressive legislation (or at least progressive compared to the past 8 years) moved thru Congress.
I have to keep reminding myself to take my cue from Obama and not from the anger I feel inside. I still fall off the wagon now and then, but not as much as I used to. Obama is putting aside the lesser stuff to deal with the more important problems. He's behaving like a grown up. We haven't seen that sort of behavior in a long time so we have to adjust.

I don't like Lieberman either but the fact is that he is beholden to Obama for his current position. Unless he is suicidal politically he will be cautious to not go astray like before. What he did in the past was despicible and ignorant but as Rosepierre suggests we do need to look forward as we have much to do.
I believe it is fair to say that it would be a substantial risk to him politically if he turns on the Demos now---but we'll see. His judgment seems to be clouded by self absorption but hopefully, the political realities will trump that.

As soon as Joe Lieberman was given back all of his perks the first thing I thought of was how many times I will hear on Faux News about how it is not only the Republicans against some legislation but Joe Lieberman. Then they will have him on to represent the left because after all his is a member of the Democratic causes. He is out there as the Representative of the Democrats on the talk shows no matter if the Democrats like it or not.
And they always always *always* mistake compassion and forgiveness for weakness.
Now, against such spineless lifeforms as Reid and Pelosi and their ilk, they are usually correct about the weakness. I'm hoping Obama is made of sterner stuff.
It won't take Joe long before his Republican instincts kick in, and he starts walking all over the Dems again, just like a Republican. He's used to never seeing consequences for these actions, and he has nothing but contempt for the Democrats who keep forgiving him.

I'm guessing Obama is playing the old "keep your friends close but your enemies closer" ploy. Maybe it's a Chicago politics thing. Either that, or someone has bad stuff on someone in DC.
People in this country tend to misuse the nature of what "keeping your enemies closer" implies. Probably die to some of the implicit meaning lost in the latin translation.
In latin languages, the term "keep somebody" really refers to physical location, not about abstract esteem or value.
The original sense of the phrase was about knowing what your enemies are up to, by locate yourself close enough for you to observe them. You don't need to be as close to your friends, physically, since you trust them and don't need to keep constant tabs on them. Not so with your enemies.
So in a sense, the sentence is about visibility and much less, if at all, about granting power or collaborating with your enemies to somehow control them (by putting them in a 'I owe you' corner).
There is that old saying, 'If you lay down with dogs, you're gonna get fleas'. Holy Joe has been laying with Dick and George for so long, lying has become normal. He probably is just like the WarPigs in the aspect that he believes his own lies. As far as the ass-kissing goes, that's normal on the 'Shining Hill'. Joe just thinks that President Obama (I kinda like saying that) is the best thing since sliced bread. I think we are going to see a lot of ass-kissing in the near future.
