Go Home

Ed Schultz let go with a righteous rant against the state of health care while attending a one-day free clinic today in Hartford, Conn for the uninsured.

I don't know what they are doing in Washington.

I know that there aren't any house members here and there aren't any senators here. And I can tell you one piece of information here in Connecticut, the house and the senate passed Universal care for everyone and the governor vetoed it. The public option in this state polls overwhelmingly well, but in Washington, Joe Lieberman, not only is he not here tonite, but he's against the public option.

(7:17) I could look Joe Lieberman in the eye, and Senator, I don't care if it costs me my job, I don't care, you are a coward. You are a coward, Joe Lieberman because you don't stand up for the people of this state and represent them and give them what they want.

Ed continued later on Olbermann's show with more details of the day in Hartford.

I never thought I would find myself in the situation I am in but here I am. 59 years old barely holding on. My wife of thirty years and myself have always worked. On April 9th, 2008 my wife pulled out and was hit by another car. She ended up in neuro trama intensive care on the ventilator for 5 weeks, another week in that hospital and anothe 6 weeks in another hospital. Then we came home with hospital beds and so many other things. Just the drug costs while she was on the vent was $86,000.00. The hospital was well over 200K.
Just the ride from the accident to the emergency room was $13,000.00.
Here we are now in 2010 she is doing pretty good still unable to work. We have no insurance now, so if she ends up with any more complications, and I only have one kidney. I guess we can just hope we die quickly. Maybe that would make the republicans happy.

republicanism/conservatism is a mental illness!

Corruption favors the wealthy.

imagine where we would be right now if the Dems had actually given a damn and pushed for single payer...

I love your passion and compassion! It's good to see at least one person in the media getting honestly angry about this. I just wish the politicians would get angry...

The video links are seriously screwed up. In this posting, I get a video link to "Oddball" featuring Keith Olbermann that shows people blowing things up and a man who has given over his house to large reptiles. This form of random video linking is common as of about a week ago.

Another way of saying it: The video almost never matches the story!

You might want to debug that!

Lieberman may or may not be a coward (though since he's a Senator that stacks the odds against him) but in this case the problem is that he's a cad.

Am sorry Project . I'd like to quote the Reverand Wright here but shall refrain . America the beautiful , right .

Ed Shulz is becoming like Keith Olbermann in his special comment segments.

For sure, I need adequate dental care to get some gold or metal fillings for a few of my teeth. So, I was able to send a $40 money order to a Free Dental Clinic in my area, and I will be put on a waiting list for the next 6-10 months or so before I can go in and get all the necessary dental care I need. I apparently have some holey, broken teeth in my mouth, and if I were to go to my regular dentist, it would cost $600-$700+ - just for ONE metal or gold filling, as how much my HMO can cover me.

Also, where is Alan Grayson when we need to hear him as one of the other good voices of the people?

Amazing that these Free Clinics actually save many people's lives, but not so surprising since lacking adequate health coverage is a fact of life in America. Seems like America is the only for-profit health care system in the world, sadly.

Kreskin's picture

Greed is good , haven't you heard ? The rest of the world just hasn't caught on yet like we have . We are the only modern industrialized nation in the world that doesn't provide it's people health care , greed and profiteering are thee American virtues , the only ones we have left.

Reasonberg's picture

Sounds like Gordon Gecko-run health care. Therefore, plutocracy owns health care in this country.

Furthermore, it's outlandish when conservative pundits argue that America has the best health care system in the world as a result to how expensive it is and the profits being brought in for these health insurance CEO's. Riiiiiiiiiiggghhht.

Ed's great , he cracks me up . I don't know why some here don't like the guy , I listened to him for a long time before he got on with MSNBC , he's genuine , down to earth and it's more than a job and entertainment to him , he's passionate and he actually cares about we the people , the every day people who have been getting shafted for so many years .

Ed, you are a great American. I shook his hand at an event in Portland several years ago, and told him that. It has never been more true than after his little "rant" last night. I practically kissed the TV screen. I have been listening to him since the first day he appeared on the radio...he truly is concerned for "we, the people." Keep listening and watching and supporting his shows....we need a hero like that for all us little guys!

I'm in Bullhead City.AZ.(across the Colorado river),I'm guessing its been 6-7 years maybe more since Dave Hayes(it's a one man show) hooked up with Ed and gave him a shot. What a thrill, out here it was right-wing crap 24/7 from 4 other stations.Knew he was gonna fight for us from the start.Passion, brains,TOUGH,and moxy to boot,my kinda dem.Called him often, then he started to get picked up by other stations and it got hard to get through.Thank god.

Never a problem finding $ trillions to wage war and enable war-profiteering. Always a problem finding $ millions to take care of its own people. Shameful. Utterly and irrevocably shameful.

Reasonberg's picture

Indeed, charity and nation-building start at home, or should be before waging war and nation-build overseas.

Furthermore, will we ever see a 90% corporate tax again like before Reagan? If only there was a 90% corporate profits tax, there would be money to allocate for a nationalized health care system. However, corporate lobbying is the enemy of building a more perfect union and looking after people's welfare.

Union members in Mass. voting Republican. Murdering Iraqis and Afgans is called serving your country. Ron Reagan is a hero to the working men and women he screwed over. The majority of Americans think torture is OK. Your police murder people every day with impunity. More people in jail than anywhere else in the world. Elites getting fat while the average man loses his job and his home. Lots of folk are really upset that your President has negro blood. A large group of u believe in the Rapture/ Death Cult. Single payer health care exists everywhere else in the civilized world. The list goes on and on. Bottom line is most Americans are both mean and stupid

Bokonon's picture

.

...fucking laugh. On Fridays Ed has job promotions on his radio show, he constantly pushes a "buy American" theme(and tells how to), and he goes after the liars and hypocrites no matter what their affiliation. Schultz leaves his phone lines open so when ignorant right wingers dare call him with bullshit talking points, the just way that he beats them down is pure entertainment. And Schultz does it in such a genuine regular guy way that to me it is impossible to not love the guy.

I'm glad people are finally coming around to appreciate Ed.

glogrrl's picture

he may be a little rough around the edges, and sometimes he's not quite as informed as someone like Thom Hartmann (my OTHER progressive crush), but nobody can question the size of his heart or his love for America and its common people. You go, Big Eddie!

Jack Canuckski's picture

Like Ed, I'm a Shultz too, though I doubt we're related.

I have the good luck to be a Canadian, and we have a very simple, single payer system. It's not perfect, but every Canadian is issued a Medicare Card, and every Canadian is entitled to health care.

In the US, a single payer system is considered a far left, radical notion. In Canada, even the Conservatives at least pay lip service to universal Medicare, even if they do want to strangle it. Now that we have it, they know how dangerous it would be to be seen trying to take it away.

Really, the insurance companies are undermining health care, and making it unaffordable. Control of the health care system has to be taken from them in order to develop a more efficient, effective and affordable health care system.

To an outsider, the American system of health care is stupid, cruel and barbaric.

Lieberman knows full well who pays for his campaigns -- and he's not about to turn on them...no matter what his constituents say to the contrary.

This phenomenon is about to get far worse, with this most recent ruling by the Supremes regarding campaign finance and corporations.

Hey OBAMA...

Show up at one of these EVENTS...

You WILL get HEALTHCARE DONE!

You WILL go down in HISTORY as one of the GREATEST!

People WILL visit YOUR gigantic memorial on the MALL many years from now...

HOW ABOUT IT, PREZ??

You know if he does that the repug's will just accuse him of doing it as a stunt.

Geraldo's picture

rail against a lack of Lieberman?

I can't imagine any country could allow things to get this bad and still call itself "The Greatest", or even "civilized", with a straight face.

This is a crime against humanity. The health industry CEOs and politicians should be facing major jail time.

fedupinct's picture

I was one of the many volunteers at the clinic on Wednesday and I thoroughly agree with Mr. Schultz's assessment of Joe Lieberman. He really is a coward and has to know the problems that many of his constituents have in obtaining affordable insurance and adequate health care. All who gave of their time were generous and enthusiastic and it was very humbling to have quite a few people who received care profusely thank volunteers as they left the conference center. Might I also say that although I was unable to see the taping of Ed Shultz's show, He stayed well after the cameras stopped, talking politics with many of the volunteers who were there, signed autographs and took time to let people get pics with him. All of this done with the best humor-a really good guy and one who passionately cares about others. Someday he really would make a great Senator.
