After all, Colbert performs on Comedy Central. If that's not the equivalent of hanging out a "Satire performed here!" sign, I don't know what else would be. The GOP would not DARE attack him, especially since Sarah herself said using the word "retard" in satire was OK (never mind that Rush Limbaugh's use was NOT satirical). Of course, if she is stupid enough to respond, he will simply use her as more fodder. This segment ranks up there as one of Colbert's finest satirical pieces, along with his pitch-perfect address at the DC correspondents' dinner during the W administration. Stephen Colbert is a genius.

FWIW, I'm a longtime reader of C+L but not of its comment threads. I happened upon this one and was pretty horrified to see supposed liberals bandying about a word that should've been excised from the American vocabulary decades ago. It's not about what 'those hateful, obstructionist bastards' think of you. It's about being a better person, and making it clear that the progressive movement in this country is inclusive of women.
If Sarah Palin were gay, it's self-evident that you wouldn't call her a '******' or a '****.' So why can you call her a 'bitch?'
