Chuck Todd: Concern Troll
By scarce Wednesday Dec 03, 2008 6:30am
Call it the price of success, or something less flattering, but Chuck Todd is now just mailing it in by simply retelling what the serious people in Washington tell him. In this case it's "very senior Democrats" who are "concerned" what sort of message an Al Franken win in Minnesota would send to the electorate.
Joe Scarborough thinks this is all great, of course, that they really don't want "[Franken] up there anyway", that "they're fine with 59", and that "some Democrats just want to keep the comedian up in Minnesota."
Todd picks up that ball and runs with it, adding that "had Democrats had a better candidate in both seats [Georgia also] both would already be over. They would have beaten Norm Coleman with any generic Democrat in Congress."
The message so alarming to "senior Democrats," evidently, is that everybody in the Hollywood Left would soon be running for office. As Todd mentions Tim Robbins, Sean Penn and Alec Baldwin, Scarborough laughs out loud at the prospect.
This is all very strange coming from a party that gave us a Hollywood B-movie actor as President in Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzeneggar as Governator in California.
One wonders what Chuck Todd will have to say if/when Chris Matthews runs for Senate in Pennsylvania. Although not a Hollywood Lefty, Matthews would be coming from a similar place in the media as Al Franken. It's just that Matthews happens to be a colleague of Todd's at MSNBC ...

And Al Franken has talent.
Y'all forgot these two icons of American entertainment who won seats in Congress as republicans:

Linky no worky.
Any better?

And lets not forget Fred Thompson.
How to remember what puts you to sleep.
Even Fred Grandy was a more dynamic actor.
Is all over the map. He doesn't know which way he's going.
As for Scarburro, he doesn't even know what he's saying.
He made that comment a few weeks ago that got his wrist slapped.
By saying Fuck Off on tv.
He looked right into the camera and said," Did I say that?"
The guy talks only to hear himself. No real brain connection there.
....positively the worst political show on television.
And hosted by the rudest SOB they could find.
Chuck seems to have been nipping into Joe's ego bottle or something. He is getting to be as much all about himself as joe is all about himself.
According to Joe, he has the answers to all the world's ailments if someone would only listen. If the hot air he blows each morning could be harnessed, we would have the solution to our energy problems.
will move to Faux News to replace Billo Orally??
Congressman Sonny Bono (R) and Mayor Clint Eastwood (R).
But I think Chuck Todd and the apocryphal Dems in Washington are right. Lets NOT make sure the election count in Minnesota is correct and counted fully. After all we all know how well it went last time the Dems decided not to pursue an accurate election recount (FL 2000).
STFU press. You have no credibility.
Watching Joe's shitty show can fuck up your entire day.
Presidential Candidate and former Senator Fred Thompson (R-Tardnessee)? Yeah, I had too.
I like Clint Eastwood.
"Go ahead punk, make me giggle like a schoolgirl on a Coca-Cola high."
Last time I checked, weren't "Hollywood Lefties" American citizens? When they become Hollywood actors and have a liberal bent do they somehow give up or lose their right to be political, to vote or to run for office? Show me any law that prohibits a "Hollywood Lefty" from doing so.
I presume they know Hollywood Lefties can run for office. They just assume they're unelectable, since according to their schema this is a center-right country.
yea, that's why I get annoyed with people who start blithering on about celebrities having political opinions. alot of these celebrities are american citizens and have a right to say what they wish, right or left. the people bitching about them are just jealous because people CARE what the celebrities have to say.
Gee, Joe knows you can't be a b-list celebrity-turned-legislator. That's going the wrong way in the progression.
I NEVER watch the am neocons, get MSNBC in the RATINGS ya know...
This is all very strange coming from a party that gave us a Hollywood B-movie actor as President in Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzeneggar as Governator in California.
Hey, don't forget Fred Thompson, Sonny Bono and Fred "Gopher" Grandy.
We didn't, we're just tryin'.
George Murphy, the Senator from California from 1965 to 1971 and was a Grade A Dildo.
what does that even mean? tweety is not a comedian -- well, not intentionally, anyway. and i would proffer that franken's radio program was a hell of a lot more informational than tweety's ongoing and endless obsession with clinton sheet-sniffing.
Chuck Todd
The question is irrelevant
.
Many actors support the Democrats, but it is the Republicans that actually elect them.
Jesse Ventura.
These MSM incompetents are like a bunch of gossipy clucking chickens who have little else to do but pretend like they are relevant and important by defaming and degrading others. They have no redemptive ideas to lift up our national debate, so they sink to the level of the small minded gossipmonger by inventing controversy where none exists.
I guess the big money that their corporate masters throw at these egotistic, self important journalistic wannabees must convince them that what they say is really important, if this is their version of quality national debate they should actually be working for the National Enquirer or Jerry Springer.
Chuck: Go project your lurid gossip on someone else's network.

I am a true liberal, and I think that Franken's candidacy sends a conflicting message. On the one hand there is the serious business of governing our nation and as Obama said during the campaign, steering the car out of the ditch. On the other hand is spoofing the players and making people laugh. I applaud Franken for his lifetime of service to my funnybone, but did he have to start his approach to the real work -- the hard work -- of governing with a run for U.S. Senate? Couldn't he have maybe worked his way up a bit? Maybe run for state house, state senate, dog catcher, something?
I think if the Dems in minnesota had fronted a more serious candidate, Coleman would be roadkill, and we'd be sitting pretty with 59 Dems in our Center-Left government!
If you read Lies and the Lying Liars who tell them, Franken has experience running large teams of researchers to help him stay knowledgeable of contemporary events, and helps him rip huge holes in the reichwing babble. I suspect that's how he would approach the law.
Not saying he isn't a good manager of people -- or a terrific guy -- just saying that in terms of the perception of the voters that we needed to convert to win this seat, it might have been good to have seen him governing in some fashion. There is a fair amount of give and take needed to successfully pass legislation, and it is a skill-set not necessarily gleaned from the kinds of experiences one gets in the entertainment field. Those votes should have been easy. I suspect that some voters cast their ballot not for Franken but against Coleman simply because of the anti-GOP climate.
It's a longshot, but Jesse Ventura made it for a term as governor, as did Schwartzenegger.

----------
I voted for Franken because he was a good candidate. as for the anti-GOP climate, if that was true, then Coleman should've been slaughtered...but like it or not, half of the country are right-wingers and he's an INCUMBENT
Actually only about 1/3 of the country is partisan, with roughly 1/6 between Democrats and republicans.
I think if the Dems in minnesota had fronted a more serious candidate, Coleman would be roadkill

bullshit.
You really have no idea how far behind Franken was in the polls when this all started.
Of course the Dem party aristocracy doesn't want Al Franken there. They don't want anyone with more intelligence and less nepotistic connection than they have.
I guess these commentators will never see how really stupid their comments are most of the time. This is why I don't even bother with network news anymore. It's just gossip, fashion and papparazzi mumbo jumbo.
I like papparazzi on my pizzas.
Chuck Todd just got some air time and is the new kid on the block. He's getting a little cocky and will be brought down. Notice how right these analyst as they called Iowa for Hillary, McCain would win, Mitt would win, Rudy would win, Thompson would win, Rev. Huck would win, Obama would pick Hillary as VP and every Cabinet position announced by Chuck and company have been dead wrong. Poor Chuck didn't even have Eric Holder on the list but Obama always had him with him during the campaign. Now I checked out Chris Matthews district in Philly and he was right to lie and say he's a Democrat. To bad the people of that district aren't as dumb and Chris and know he's a loyal Republican. He might want to hire Karl Rove if he isn't in jail.

Concerned Gnome is more like it.
How can anyone watch those tools on 'Morning Douchebag' anyway? It is a cesspool of a show. Every windbag on that waste of 3 hours is in love with with their own persona, as a result, we are letting the kids watch Malcom in the Middle until the bus arrives.
I miss the racist, pruned up cowboy.
Of course Todd is knocking Franken! Also, Republicans have currently elected more actors (and in more prominent positions) than Democrats, so this is sort of funny. But Franken is a well-informed guy, and has been for years. As for other "Hollywood liberals" running, that's their right, and the public can decide if they want to vote for them or not. This is pretty standard pandering to a Limbaugh view of the world.
...than Joey or Chuckie. Looking at the photo above from the video, I was intrigued by the runner at the bottom: "one in five young American adults has a persona....."
So I watched the video carefully to read the headline - which says:
"......research shows that one in five young American adults has a Personality Disorder...." along with other serious problems related to alcohol and drug use/abuse.
Now, that's scary.
You forgot to mention Clint Eastwood,Sonny Bono RIP, and baseball fast-baller Jim Bunning.
I don't recall all of hollywood running for Senate seats when Reagan was elected. Thsi is such a stupid show - I don't like Joe and his little kick-around-sidekicks
if it's such a big concern that the hollywood left would take over then shouldn't it also be a concern that the hollywood right might also get in on the action? oh, i forgot, that's already happened with regan and schwartzenegger. oops! and it was so easy for them!
...well, I don't feel so bad for Chuckles now. Chuck just kind of blows with the wind anyhow. Depending on the show, he often offers up info spun the way the host wants it.
The whole notion that Minnesota doesn't want Franken is silly. If they didn't want him, Coleman would have locked this thing up on Election Day.
A few years ago, the actor James Garner told Travis Smiley that during his days playing Maverick on TV, he was approached by California's GOP to run for congress. Because his politics were (and remain) staunchly democratic, he politely declined. To this day he remains puzzled why they obviously hadn't done their homework, as his political leanings were nothing he ever attempted to conceal.
So the rightards cabn't keepo their bodily fluids in order solely because Al is a comedian? What about that insane war criminal in the White House? That terrorist butcher was undeniably the most comedic clown on television for the past 8 friggen years.
who as I recall, skied into a tree (?) but his nutball wife who replaced him. And Sen George Murphy (former B-Movie song and dance man)
Anyway, I like Al - I really, really want someone who has a movie credit as "Drunken Baggage Handler #2" on his resume. And before anyone yells at me, I mean that sincerely - it has to help give you a sense of perspective.
"As Todd mentions Tim Robbins, Sean Penn and Alec Baldwin, Scarborough laughs out loud at the prospect."
Any of these men would have made a better Congressman than Scarborough did.
can bite this Minnesotan.
Al is smarter and knows more about the issues than 100% of the republicans in Congress and about 99% of the Democrats. Todd is full of crap and making that whole "senior Democrats" stuff up because he's too lazy to do any real work.
I don't agree with a lot of you about this issue. Al Franken is very intelligent, and if elected, will do a fine job for Minnesota. He will do MUCH better than Norm Coleman for sure.
Since when did progressives try to discourage anyone from running for public office in the first place? What do we want, a bunch of pro-business lawyers from both sides of the aisle to lead, or do we want people from all walks of life?
I really take exception to the negative comments about Tim Robbins too. He would be a much better representative of the American people and the democratic party than oh say Joe Liebermann, and yet there Joe is, and here we are as a nation because of dimbulbs like him.
After eight years of obsessively following politics and the news, I have come to the conclusion that politicians, pundits, and mainstream journalists in general are all insane.
I'm gonna go build a rocket, find a planet, and get the hell off this crazy rock. Who's with me?? *laff*
