Fox's Megyn Kelly had breaking (and breathless) news today that terrorists activists from a "liberal think tank" had breached security at the Iowa State Fair Grounds in Des Moines today, attacking Mitt Romney, assaulting him with questions in raised voices about Social Security and Medicare, fairer taxes for the rich, and other things ordinary Americans aren't supposed to think about too much, apparently. In the end, poor Mitt Romney lay prostrate on the ground, helpless and confused by it all, forced to admit that yes indeed "corporations are people" and that liberals were just too mean to them. Or something.

Ok, there may be some dramatizing in there. Watch the video and judge for yourself.

These folks who were doing the confrontation, these protestors were from the Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement, which is described as a liberal think tank. They got there early. They positioned themselves in front of the crowd. They got a few questions into Romney. Do you think we’re going to be seeing more of that? You know, people who have a defined agenda from the average citizen showing up at these events.

Fox News really is something else, isn't it?

"If elected President will you cut Social Security and Medicare benefits?"

Just. Not. Fair.

*evil* liberal "think tank"

..loved his answer: "I won't raise taxes!"

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

"I won't raise taxes" is the all-purpose republican answer to any question.

Yes it is but it won't mollify seniors and people who are going to be seniors.

when questioning became attack? To me, an attack is when somebody hurts another person physically. Talking to someone, especially a public official who will make decisions that effect your life, is not an attack.

By their definition, Joe the Plumber attacked Obama.

What a bunch of whiners. They hit the other children all over the playground, but as soon as one hits back, they cry and tattle to the teacher.

Rethuglicans aren't allowed to be verbally attacked. It isn't fair to them. They are chosen by the God of their own understanding to lead us out of depravation.

JFK, RFK, MLK and many others were phisically assasinated.

Barack Obama is being personally assinated by the RW Rethuglicans. He is now, the walking dead. The Rethuglican racists have successfully assasinated him. They have successfully blocked everything Pres. Obama and the Dems have tried to do. And they have successfully blamed Pres. Obama for all of it. And a huge majority believe it.

I personally believe that this has been rethuglican strategy since 2006 when they realized that "Shrub" Bush sent us down a rat hole.

They have personally assinated every Democratic president since Eisenhower. They murdered JFK and personally assinated Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and now, Barack Obama. LBJ was done in by health.

CafeenMan's picture

While I agree with the gist of your comments I think they're a little overboard.

I strongly believe that as a tool, language should be used as precisely as possible without becoming pedantic. Using the word, "assassinate", for example, is really extreme.

Somewhat more accurately, Republicans have attempted to block every initiative President Obama has put forth. But a lot of the blame DOES fall on Democrats because they don't force Republicans to actually filibuster and any fight they put up isn't even strong enough to call symbolic.

I am far more disappointed in President Obama and all Democrats in both houses of Congress for that reason. Because you are correct, the Republican strategy has been to politically handicap President Obama. But if the shoe were on the other foot and Democrats did EXACTLY what Republicans have been doing, Republicans would have successfully passed exponentially more of their agenda.

I think that Democrats both don't know how to fight and don't want to fight. They're losers even when they win.

As you may recall, Republicans did have a minority at times when Bush was in office and Republicans still got their way almost every time with few or no concessions.

It comes down to the fact that they want it more.

No it is not, it is accurate.

They don't attack Obomber's policies, they attack him personally, calling him a traitor, Muslim (implied terroist) and worse. I guess you haven't been paying attention.

They attacked Bill Clinton personally, calling him a murderer, drug dealer, and worse. I guess you weren't been paying attention.

I agree that language should be precise, and unloaded, but the Rethugs have been extreme, and it is character assassination they engage in, not policy discssion. Because among them, not a single original idea, unless "tax cuts" to you is an original idea, occurs.

So when the Tea Partiers organized and attended town hall meetings, they were exercising their right to free speech - but if anyone to the left of Rush Limbaugh imitates them, it's an attack (or an ATTACK!!!).

One wonders what would happen if some non-white citizens started exercising their right to bear arms ... oops, forgot, only right-wingers have that right.

Asking Mittens questions about issues. Talk about "gotcha" questions. A fairer question would be "How soon do you plan to eliminate Social Security?

Like all the "gotcha" questions Palin was asked such as, "What magazines do you read?" Stuff like that is clearly far below the belt.

This isn't even the worst answer to these questions. Mr. Santorum (google it its fun) tonight was asked about the budget deal. He was at what ration cuts to revenues (other wise knows as tax hikes on fox) would he accept. The person who asked the question even gave him the chance to wiggle out of being a moron by saying "would you accept a 10-1 ration cuts to revenues" His responce was the fox news now classic. We don't have a revenue problem we have a spending problem.

I hate these poeple more and more everyday. And i loath the Americans who believe these morons even more. I just watched repugs saying the RIGHT thing to do was cut the "Capital gains tax" to zero. A tax on people's money who don't F'n work for it. This is money that traders cheat to get. And rich people make off their own money. Almost nobody who will vote repug in the next election will pay this tax that should be way hirer. Even hirer than income tax. This tax should be a 50% Starting after the first 500000. But what bugged me the most was all these morons in Iowa cheering this. They don't get it. I don't understand how half of this country can be soooooooo dumb.

The plan the oligarchs hatched back in the late 60's has worked to a T. They gradually defunded education. And they devalued that education with programs that made teachers jobs harder and made it less about education and more about the bottom line. This was seemingly a Brilliant move. We have 125 million completely moronic people in this country. They have now even got so many religous freaks so scared of the "gay agenda" in public schools that these morons are taking their kids out of school and educating them at home. I use the words educating very loosely.

Folks we are truely close to the edge of the abyss here. I am afraid if one of these wing nuts is allowed to take office we are all done and this country will end. Heck i am afraid if we leave the fraud of Obama in office it will be the same fait. We must stop yakking on the net and take to the streets. We must start calling our congress people and going to town halls. We need more than anything a peoples lobby that supported by the people and for the people, no corporate donations allowed. If we don't get to work soon it will be over. I live in a rich reppug area so its hard for me to get anything started but for thos eof us who can get people all crazy do it. Get to work. It is the responcibility of those who can to do for those who can't. WE must stand up and start the reeducation of american public.

margarine's picture

I think a lot of the problem for these voters is that they buy heavily into the American Dream ideal that Republicans push.

It's something like: "Well, if you were rich would you want to be taxed?" or "Well wouldn't it be nice if NO ONE was taxed? Let's start with the rich" and so forth.

They play off the desperation these people have for these things. The hope that they can still just work in some store, yet someday through sheer determination become a millionaire. In some ways it also appeals to their general human instinct to be greedy. If they get to that point, they don't want that to be paying out either. They ignore the fact that this is unlikely, unfair and just plain not helpful to even themselves.

That sort of rags to riches stuff mostly happens in the movies. When only 1% of our country is even making that level of money, I'm not sure what the hell the chance is for a normal person to hit that. It's obviously barely above zero.

Is that the way we have to call these turds on the carpet?.......should and scream, and act like crazy teabaggers? I'd rather not hear an answer from Cptn Slick. He's sitting in front of a canned audience to begin with...and you really think it's going to matter to them if he is called out? Waste of time...and lowering ourselves to their level.

Since Mittens left the Governorship of Massachusetts, HE has been attacking Liberals, that helped vote him in office. He's just another morman lying hypocrit. How can he object when he has been playing to his base and dumping on liberals?

We will never miss an opportunity to expose that forked tongued devil who traces his roots back to Utah. He and Orin Hatch, cut from the same cloth.

Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement (CCI) is a membership-based grassroots organization founded in 1975 and currently based in Des Moines, Iowa. CCI was formed by a group of ministers in Waterloo who felt Iowa needed an organization to fight for social justice issues and today boasts nearly 3,700 dues-paying members from 97 of Iowa’s 99 counties.[1] CCI is dedicated to community organizing, and is an affiliate of National People's Action.

A liberal think tank? Even if it was a liberal think tank it would not be a problem but this is not exactly what Megyn said it was, is it?

A Republican candidate makes the mistake of taking questions from voters:

regular non-rich citizens don't "know their place" and speak only when they have permission, and then only ask "approved" questions.

That's the point of these things, though. Anyone can come to ask questions, agenda or not. How is there no agenda in play if Mitt was only asked questions by his fans?

It's nonsensical.

Oh my god, a damn librul actually attended an event opened to the public and dared to ask a question of a republican candidate running for president of the United States without it being first screened. Stop the friggin' presses! I demand an investigation! Good lord, Fox didn't even act this breathless when Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head. You'd think some kind of crime was committed here.

Smart girl, Megyn. She's been taking great advantage of those private lessons with Frank Luntz on how to spin words into something they were not intended to mean by divorcing them from the context unrelated to the facts at hand and thereby letting them take the place of truth. Unfortunately, Luntz forgot to warn her that twists on words tend to be two-edged swords. It's nice to know she can distinguish between "people who have a defined agenda" from the "average citizens" who turn up at Repub rallies. As if Fox News did not have a defined agenda: They lie, you decide.
