'Barack The Magic Negro' Will Offend "SOME" People! Bill O'Reilly
By CSPANJunkie Wednesday Dec 31, 2008 6:00pmDecember 30, 2008 News Corp
BILLO: Impact Segment tonight, a viewer warning, there is a satire called "Barack the Magic Negro" that will offend some people, no doubt about it. But in order for us to report on this, we have to play some of the satire, so be forewarned. The parody is by Paul Shanklin, who writes comedy material for Rush Limbaugh among others. The problem is that Chip Saltsman, a former Tennessee Republican chairman, has sent Shanklin's satire to some RNC members, and that is causing some concern. Roll the tape ...
Dave N: Yes, it deeply pains BillO to run this tape. After playing it, Larry Elder tries to pretend that liberals say similar things all the time and get away with it (right).
None of the guests seem to remember that as soon as Barack Obama was elected, the airwaves were filled with right-wingers -- from Bill Bennett to Sarah Palin to Michelle Bachmann -- talking about how Obama's election made them feel good about America and themselves because it was such a racial landmark and how it proved racism was now dead in America. Talk about a magic Negro!

PS; happy new year fellow C&Lers and visitors, 2009 (20th inwards) is going to be glorious.
The start of a new era and some justice.
Just think, less than three weeks and the Chimp is just going to be a sad fcuking footnote in the history books. Its been a long eight years.
PPS. REM and beer here, the best way to see in the new year.
one of the happiest moments in my life
will be when billo has been removed from
any public forum.
does someone have a house they can drop on him?
at this moment we are keeping Billo relevant. He's getting the attention that he seeks.............
The good news is his audience is old and will die off soon enough.
And Larry Elder, you are a credit to your race....the cockroach race. Elder is living proof that there's still good money to be made in "Uncle Tomming".
Larry Elder doesn't speak for black people.
Oh, yes.
Larry Elder.
I lived in L.A. for 25 years and I always loved it when he admitted that affirmative action got him through college but that he doesn't believe in it.
Ha!!!
The problem with people like Elder is that it's fine for him to do something but not okay for other people to do the same thing. If he doesn't believe in affirmative action why did he use it to get through college? JUST ANOTHER HYPOCRITE.
The forces of negativity are no match for the unknown variable. Nice try, funky pervy geezer cracker dude and accompanying shill-pundits, but 2009 goes beyond your schtick.
They like playing with their schtick
That's the problem, no one else will.
The satirist writes comedy for Rush Limbaugh. And then they keep on talking as if anything else would matter from that point.
Would "Bill'O the magic hot tempered Irish drunk" offend him? Just askin.
Thash on his license plate
Hic.
that he's not to keen on Bill the magic fallufah perv............
Next on FAUX news, more clips on the outrage of high school girls topless on spring break!
I'm sitting here looking out my freakin' window at a blizzard right now in Hampton Bays.
Spring Break!
Paaashaw!!!!
something to enjoy instead

How fucked up does someone have to be to buy into this shit?
Let alone make it up.
Stupid fuckers can't even see they're destroying themselves now.
All the better, people get to see them for what they really are.
Can't happen fast enough.
AMEN!!
Tanking economy, recession bordering on depression, American kids coming home in boxes in a war so Halliburton can get no bid government contracts at tax payer expense, houses in foreclosure, jobs evaporating and FOXaganda is talking about this to distract us from the shit the conservatives have laid on our asses that really affect our daily lives. Bill"O, this go to hell is for you.
After the inauguration Fox'll talk about all the problems and convince their brain dead audience that Obama is the cause.
That magic negro video is such shitty quality and so unimaginative. Too much to do about nothing if you ask me.
Maybe if we ignore the right wing nuts they will go away...
who haven't been impacted by bush's wars and/or economy. Thanks for stayin g current, Bilge-O.
I see Foxaganda found their token Uncle Tom there in the center.
"Oh no, stringing up my fellow black folks from an ole oak tree is just white folk playing around. I don't see why some folks on the liberal left are making such a big deal"
For reminding me of the person who brought magic into my family's life: My stepfather, an African-American man who married my (Caucasuian) mom more than a quarter century ago.
Yes, Mr. O'Reilly, you are right to showcase the magic: While my biological father has disappeared, my Magic Negro Daddy (as you might characterize him) has made all the difference in the world to our family by being a good father.
Thanks again for proving that even a blind pig can find an acorn, once in a while.
happy new year! you couldn't have said it better
Bill O' the magic Irishman lives by the sea
short tempered and belligerent is the Irish stereotype you see
A sloppy drunk off the camera, this I have little doubt
the world will be a better place when he loses his clout
Until then we will have to put up with the rantings of a loon
A reich wing shill, an obnoxious ass, and most of all a goon.
Bill'O's karma is coming soon, as sure as the sun doth shine
I look forward to the day his Irish ass is standing in the unemployment line
!
Nothing about a loofah?
Can't get off the airwaves fast enough. What exactly is it going to take, to motivate the truly brain dead Faux viewer?
the truly brain dead Faux viewer?
More missing blonde coeds! What else!!
Faux News is entertainment for wannabe frustrated serial killers, they are too scared to actually go out and be one, so they get their rocks off by fantasizing and watching the jerkooff stories on Faux.
i expected much more of this type of ass backward..ness in the last 2 months. must be because of the holidays.
actually, i agree with alot of what hill said but, outside of the politosphere, if anyone feels offended by this youre just as lame as shanklin.
Who the hell are these people over a FOX and why are they still there? Why are they doing it, and who is watching them do it? Are they not painting themselves into a corner, or will they never be held to a higher standard?
As long as there is about 20% of the public that believes this BS that faux news puts out these guys are going to be around. All you have to do is, take a breeze threw sites like, No Quarter,Hillary44 and the other puma sites to see there is a whole world of tin foil hat people who spend a lot of their time hating everything Obama. We should get used to four years of this crap, because its not going anywhere.
like socialistworker.org? In 2006, they had this to say about him:
It is an interesting read
The Obama myth
http://socialistworker.org/2006-2/608/608_04_...
Seems they didn't quite buy what he was selling then.
thinks he's hot shit in a champagne flute, but virtually everyone else on the planet knows he's just a cold turd in a dixie cup.
'Two men (and) sharing a cup'
The socialist workers party have never bought anything anyone in America is selling, so whats your point?
myself. Are they tinfoil hat types? Reading about them on their site, they sound like liberal progressives or having similar goals.
Hey, up here in Minnesota, no big deal. Sit back and enjoy. I and the little redhead are sitting in front of the fire, drinking screw drivers and listening to NIN.Happy New Year.
night, trying to stay awake another hour.
Happy New Year to all!
I managed to stay up past midnight. I was in bed, reading an encyclopedia on werewolves by candlelight, and sipping burgundy from a skull shaped cup.
Your sitting in front of the fire on NYE with a little redhead and you're blogging? Have you checked recently? She probably left you sitting there by yourself. I don't think the car engine you just heard turning over outside was your neighbors.
They totally missed the point. The point isn't that Rush puts out racist garbage - he's done that forever. Heck the song played on his show a year ago. The point isn't that there's plenty of satire, much of it mean spirited, coming from the left so it's not "fair" to worry about this and give the left leaning satire a pass. That's the way it will always be.
What makes this an issue is the fact that a Republican politician thought enough of this to send it out, thereby endorsing it. That is really tone deaf, stupid thing to do if you hope to get elected outside the deep south and Oklahoma. The fact that the party - save Newt- doesn't get that is what makes this worth discussing. The situation would only be equivalent if Pelosi or Reid sent out copies of a CD's mocking rednecks.

Here's what the writer of "Puff" had to say!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/peter-yarrow/my...
O'Reilly, what worthless POS
My question is what is the purpose of the "satire?" For satire or other comedy to be effective it has to have some redeeming value. Jon Stewart is so good because he makes people look at their own actions and beliefs.
The whole O'Reilly discussion about who should be offended makes no sense. A black writer commenting on whether someone is black enough raises an issue for discussion. If O'Reilly and his talking heads were discussing that issue I would have no problem. On the other hand, what does a white satirist turning the article into a song bring to the discussion?
Having a white blow hard like Limbaugh play the song on the radio adds no value. Calling it a satire makes no difference. Having another white talking head play it again as the basis for a discussion might or might not add anything.
The answer to that question can be found in all the phony concern about proper behavior and ethics in the discussion. When one of the mouth pieces says Democrats do worse things all the time, Bill O' says two wrongs don't make a right. I really enjoy him criticizing someone else for a tactic Bill uses all the time. His "concern" that viewers may be offended is also laughable.
This kind of reminds me of the New Yorker cover with the Obamas.
It was from someone known to create such covers
But I still didn't think it was satire.
I really don't know if there's any succinct definition of satire
But name-calling and mockery does not a satire make.
I prefer Juvenal.
Bill O'Rielly is less appealing than vomit.
The only time I agree with Bill O'Reilly! While the racist song will offend MOST people.. racists like Bill and his friends really enjoy this brand of shit. Maybe it will find a place next to his Johnny Rebel collection. Thanks Bill for pointing out your not only a liar and douchebag, but a rascist, lying douchebag! Congrats LOSER!
Right
"None of the guests seem to remember that as soon as Barack Obama was elected, the airwaves were filled with right-wingers -- from Bill Bennett to Sarah Palin to Michelle Bachmann -- talking about how Obama's election made them feel good about America and themselves because it was such a racial landmark and how it proved racism was now dead in America. Left
None of the bloggers seem to remember that as soon as Barack Obama was elected, the blogoshere was filled with folks calling themselves "progressive" talking about how Obama's election made them feel good about America and themselves. They even claimed to have elected him. How historic.
War in Iraq, looming war in Afghanistan with ever increasing American casualties - ain't gonna ruin my party.
And I can't figure out if Tim Rutten is offended or not.
That's supposed to be Al Sharpton's voice? Can't the GOP do anything right? Al Sharpton doesn't sound like that, Sharpton's from the north. The voice on that tape is the stereotype of a deep south black man perhaps from the bayou area of Louisiana or Mississippi.
Not only do Republicans have no class, they have no creative style. Not only racist, it's a tacky bad parody if ever there was one. Republicans need to stick with what they do best, destroying shit, because they sure as hell can't create anything worth a damn even something as simple as an Al Sharpton parody.
Somebody needs to smack Bill O upside the head with a wet falafel. I'd pay to see that.
offends "some" people. Including the nun who called him a
"fresh piece of humanity". Believe me, that was never a comment in a Catholic school. It means he was an a##hole from the get go.
Witless derision is not satire any more than ad hominem insults are humorous. Without the capacity for self-deprecation, humor of any kind is impossible. Conservatives are incapable of self-deprecation. Therefore, while they are often ridiculous, they are never funny.
I would say satire is often self-derision. It be like a drawing of a dinner party denouncing the patient servants as boors, while the partiers look like brutes.
I'd prefer them to look like apes in evening clothes but that might be pushing it toward absurdism.
I remember reading one piece by Juvenal (I think),where he was having fun with a dinner party thrown by the nouveaux riches (really middle-class), and how they were putting on airs without really knowing what they were doing. Juvenal wasn't attacking anyone in particular but a class, and not because they were lower class, but because of the airs they were putting on. So really it was a satire on self-deception.
One could compare that today with someone who works in a middle-class job, who would cut off his nose despite his face, to support the wealthy class interest, who would lay him off or downsize him at a moments notice without a second thought. You could also compare it to an over-worked woman with no social life, living in a cheap apartment or condo, worried about how happy some celebutante is with her new beau du jour.
Why look at me, I try to wax with erudition, when I'd rather be waxing my putz.
And technically, even if Barack the Magick Negro was funny, which it isn't (but that's subjective), that would mean it was a successful parody, a parody of a specific song, Puff the Magic Dragon. Parody does not necessarily make satire.
How anyone fails to see this so called 'parody' song as being blatently rascist is beyond me-
But this is no shock- this song was made for Rush Limbagh's show- a man who is a raging bigot, as are many of his dittoheads-
Just imagine parody songs with titles like 'Achmed the magic raghead', 'Guido the magic dago', 'Jose the magic wetback, 'Billybob the magic white trash', 'Schlomo the magic Jewboy' , Yuki the magic gook, or 'Seamus the magic drunken Mic'
Would these songs be seen as offensive by the ehtnic groups that were being targeted? F*ck yes. Why people are debating whether or not 'Barack the magic negro' is or is not racist is beyond me- It IS a racist song.
I apologise if my examples were offensive, I was trying to make a point proving the parody song is as racist as these examples.
Because it's a form of humor that the powerless use against the powerful. That's the only way it's ever funny. Satire is like... artful sarcasm.
Right-wingers instinctively side with the powerful *against* the powerless, whether you're talking about entrenched, corrupt politicians or violent police officers or schoolyard bullies. You can always count on a right-winger to stand up for the 'overdog', so to speak.
And that's why they're never funny-- especially when they try satire. It's always the powerful attacking the powerless, and it just seems distateful. But they don't get it.
I heard O'Reilly call that crap satire the other night...which is in itself is total hilarity, because the day that conservatives like himself have the intellectual capacity to understand and create sartical works of art is the day hell freezes over. Sadly, that was the only funny thing about this mixtape controversy.
I'm wondering how offensive this "satire" would be if the word negro wasn't used. If "black man" was used in its place, would there still be the outrage? Or is it the combination of the word with the supposed black sounding man singing the tune that taints the whole thing? I had heard about this item before but until I saw the clip I didn't realize that it was supposed to be Al Sharpton's voice. It makes more sense to me now, but then someone earlier said that Sharpton doesn't really sound like that.
