Go Home

Mo Brooks, my congressional representative, got special attention from Chris Matthews last night. He's not the first Alabama politician to use eliminationist rhetoric regarding the undocumented, or the worst. But this is not the representation we need in Alabama's 5th congressional district:

Brooks had a little to say about immigration at the town hall I attended a couple of weeks ago. What struck me at the time was the tone of doom he had, which was in tune with the general tone of the affair. (Click here to watch the whole thing; I dare you). Illegal aliens are out for your job and your life -- be afraid, very afraid! Because no one ever gets murdered or killed in a car wreck with an American citizen.

Tourists leaving for Egypt are warned that if they are in a car accident, they should leave the scene as soon as possible so they don't get blamed for the accident -- on the supposition that if they had not been visiting Egypt, the accident would not have happened. That is exactly the logic Mo Brooks is using. He uses anecdotal, not empirical, evidence to paint undocumented immigrants as especially violent and prone to dangerous behavior. It's an old meme, one used on people of color in times past. It's ugly. It's also completely false. Someone should put a bullet in the brainpan of this zombie idea.

is torturing people just short of shooting them? That's quite the Meathead you've got there. He'd do anything for hate but he won't do that.

I imagine he wouldn't do it because the stupid goddamn Yankee laws would put him in jail.

Why not eliminationist domestic policy?

Our foreign policy is "kill all the bad guys in foreign lands to make the US secure" ..

Any wonder there are those who want to use the same policy here?

So long as we glorify being the biggest baddest authoritarian bully abroad there will be those who think that being the biggest baddest authoritarian bully is the solution to problems here too.

When will government of the people, by the politicians, for the corporations perish from this Earth?

Not soon enough!

That think we are the bad guys, trust me on that.

Just like after the Reichstag Fire when Germany's economy was in the shitter, they started scapegoating immigrants for all of their social ills. Human nature is predictable and manipulable

Yep

It's a universal human idea - when times are bad, blame the stranger. It's why there's that passage in the Bible about treating strangers well because "you were strangers in the land of Egypt". Not that good Murrikin Christians pay any attention to the Bible when it gets in the way of what they want, dontcha know.

But it's always the most recent immigrant group. In Alabama, the influx of brown started in the 1990s and had everyone's attention by 2000.

Hm

Someone should put a bullet in the brainpan of this zombie idea.

Maybe not the best way to express disapproval.

Yes

But this is exactly the kind of thing we piss on the Republicans for saying. How is violent gun rhetoric okay for us but not for them?

You mean watching 'COPS' on Saturday night doesn't qualify as empirical evidence?

Georgia is how far from Alabama? I guess either he hasn't heard of the farming disaster there, or he's heard that GA Americans are lining up to pick all kinds of tender, time-sensitive produce and do just as well as the immigrants that had previously stolen all those fine American jobs.

This cracker makes my haid hurt. He lied about the President! Imagine! He said the Pres MADE the NLRB go after Boeing. Get an extinguisher for that man's pants. But take your time, deliberate speed and all.

The President has, to my chagrin spoken against the action the NLRB is taking against Boeing. I believe he said a business should be able to set up shop where they want to. Of course both Obama and Rep Cracker totally shaved some pesky, but pertinent details: that Boeing threatened the unions with doing that when the unions refused to give up the right to strike. Boeing, in essence said to the union, if you don't give up the right to strike, we'll be building the new plant elsewhere. Publicly, several times. I remember it well because I was thinking "Shit, that's so fucking illegal! Is the legal dept on vacay?" I'm sure someone had kittens over it.
This is a conservative meme, that "Obama's" NLRB has been sicced on the poor little Boeing company. I just did a search and all the con sites say this is Obama-driven. Nothing could be further from the truth, and the fact that Rep Cracker is repeating is proof that it is not a credible claim.

I just don't like his politics.

for Indonesia advises a tourist involved in an accident to flee immediately to the nearest police station rather than risk being beaten by an angry, unreasonable mob. Having lived there, this is sound advice.

The "supposition" of blame would seem to be the one likely to be made by an angry mob of locals, not by whoever is warning the tourists visiting Egypt.
