If you haven't seen the cover of next weeks' Time magazine...let me say it is awesome. And I NEVER use the word awesome. With the situation we are in I've felt along along we need someone of the smarts, drive and goodwill of Franklin Roosevelt. Thank you Time Magazine. I'm going to frame that cover!

I'm drunk, but good lord, I love this guy, we're soooooo lucky

"My fellow Americans, I am saddened to announce to you that an asteroid the size of Texas is on a collision course with Earth..."

That would SO be cool if he did that for an April Fool's joke.

Follow that with an obligatory " It seemed that All of our base are belong to It."

King George the Chimp couldn't be bothered with giving regular addresses and town hall meetings to his lowly subjects the American people.

Finally we have a president for the people and by the people rather than a president by supreme court fiat and for the corrupt corporate interests.

Obama's going to giving a lot of these to explain how he's going to get us of this GOP induced mess.

If George tried that the economic collapse would have come sooner and harder. On the other hand the Daily Show writers would have had tears of joy running down their faces.

If repigs ever want to win presidential elections again they'd have to care about the 99% that are not their base of greedy mofos.

Please work to bring the jobs back to this country. We need to MAKE things. And please, not every kid can go to college. Let's see what we can do to build a network of community trade schools where kids can learn to do jobs that can never be off-shored.

Jo

I couldn't agree more. This vid compared to dana perino's lie fest is a real breath of fresh air...ahhhhh

tuition reimbursement will include state run trade schools

it is time to rebuild from the ground up...just as roosevelt did

obama and the dems have a unique opportunity to forge a brand new alliance that will carry this country well into the next century

but not if the attitude remains that the only people who create jobs are the fat cats

i do believe in bailing out the car industry...but with strings

and those strings include a full default if the electric car is not perfected in 5 years...and is made affordable

and there you have it....a real incentive

Gawddamminit! We elected him - our PRESIDENT! My chest swells with pride, that's our guy!

... who speaks English.

Literarily yours,

BID

Feel like I can breathe again....

Bush to World Leaders: ‘Tear Down Your MALLS’

Did some evildoer at C&L edit the Obama clip? Where was the obligatory "God bless the United States of America" coda? Has our President-elect moved so quickly from putative Christian to Moslem (check the etymology of "renegade"!) and kept on going into full-blown atheism?

you wont hear god bless the united states of america...cuz these are him chatting with the people

im just digging a prez embracing geek culture

forget wanting to have a beer with the prez, i wanna play d&d and talk star trek

Wanna talk comics and shit. That's a bad motha fucka....

Some juicy tidbits from the NY Times:

Among the full roster of about 150 staff members being assigned to government agencies between now and Inauguration Day are dozens of former lobbyists and some who were registered as recently as this year. Many more are executives and partners at firms that pay lobbyists, and former government officials who work as consultants or advisers to those seeking influence.

After campaigning on promises to end the influence of lobbyists in the White House, Mr. Obama has imposed rules that bar officials on his transition team from handling any issues in areas of policy where they have lobbied over the last 12 months or from seeking to influence the same agencies for the next 12 months.

The rules also bar officials from working on matters where family members or recent business associates may have a direct conflict of interest. In cases where there is even an “appearance of conflict,” officials must seek a waiver from the transition’s executive director, an Obama Senate aide and law school classmate, Christopher Lu.

Please. Please. Please. CHANGE the way government is run. I know you haven't been sworn in yet, but damn this looks like the same crap that is the reason the global economy is in deep cow manure.

the best and brightest all gravitated to the lobbying firms...cuz that is where the money was at these past 8 years...so whatcha gonna do?

i do like franken's idea

if you have been elected to the us house or senate, or served the president in any capacity, you cant get a job lobbying....for life

that will never happen....but how about for at least the term of the current prez?

That's a great idea. And extend it to any elected rep no matter who, that gets caught being "influenced" by a lobbyist, is kicked out on the spot.

I am so happy Obama is doing these addresses. I like hearing from him. His words and voice assure me. However, this talk about Hillary Clinton being SOS does not. I hope that she steps nowhere near an Obama Administration. Please let her keep her place in congress.

Keep her in the Senate and let her constituents in New York decide her future. Much more Democratic.

or they wont stfu for the next 4 years

hillary wants to leave her mark on history

i think first female majority leader would be nice

unless you can consider reid the first female leader...cuz he sure is a pussy

I'm still happy - we won! neocons lost!

FDR had his FireSide Chats, via radio.

And although every president since Eisenhower appeared frequently on TV, the weekly presidential address was always delivered on radio.

Until now.

"President-elect Obama will continue to record and make available the Democratic radio addresses on video when he is in the White House," transition team spokesman Nick Shapiro said. "No President-elect or President has ever turned the radio address into a multi-media opportunity before."

So this is one for the history books - the weekly Presidential video address begins.

But even more momentous is the fact President-Elect Obama is using his position as the "Bully Pulpit" - challenging the Congress to take specific actions NOW.

Obama's got more "political capital" than GW, and he's using it.

to have a president-elect who is not beholden to corporations and Wall Street and lobbyists.

For the first time in my life, I feel confident in a president.

An individual who will do what is best for Americans.

Damn. I feel good. Back to business.

... let the opposition deter him from implementing his plans for the country because the country (read: taxpayers) can't afford it all at once.

With the national debt being 100 years long (at least) - $10T, does it really matter if we added another 10 years to the queue - $1T?

Let's get real, no one is ever going to pay back the $10T. What happens to it? Maybe the Chinese will some day come over here and carve off California, maybe the entire West Coast, and drag it across the Pacific?

beware the full reults of the Credit Default Swaps

10 trillion is realy a joke compared the the CDS's

Isn't it great knowing that once again we'll have an intelligent President who can form full sentences and deliver a clear message in an understandable manner?

just having a president who shows up! Amazing.

Thank God for this fabulous work horse. Feels weird, lol.

I just love it that we have a President who knows what the fuck Youtube is.

The fireside chats have returned!!!

Aah, the soothing sound of sanity and intellect. I will look forward to my weekly gee-up.

The current global business model of our so called "business elite" calls for liquidation of its asset formerly called the United States. This will continue regardless of who is President.

We need a program of retraining those who are out of work or about to lose their jobs to go back to school to train for green type jobs that pay a living wage and promise those jobs after the training ends.

Go Obama!

a bridge” to the 21st century"
