I've already posted Rep. Anthony Weiner's appearance on Rachel Maddow's show. Here's he is on the floor of the House, challenging Republicans to put up or shut up on health care reform.

A NY rep I can be proud of? I'm donating to this guy today!

Stupid Git's picture

No donation option on his website. But there is a place to contact him if anyone else want to send a word of support.

nice move, but american politicians don't do politics any justice

"I dare ya! I double dare ya!"
i don't think you'd hear british politicians say that. they'd be much more biting.

and then lets see them stick their tongue to the pole.

after pulling their tongues out of each others ass whole.
So they can retain the distinct flavor.

...Man, I wish I could play that speech on everyone's computers. Thing is, he is 100% right!!!!! I love how he calls them to task for the hypocrisy.

I'm listening to Wendall Potter (former CIGNA vp), and he's now saying that it looks like the insurance/pharmaceuticals may succeed in stopping meaningful reform.

He wasn't talking like that two weeks ago.

These corporations seem to have more power and control than the oil industry.

Democrats keep inviting republicans to come up with health plans or solutions of their own so they can debate them

But the republicans don't; they're too busy complaining about being shut out of the debate.

I don't see the Republicans voting on Weiner's amendment any time soon. They will stonewall as long as they can because they know that a good portion of their constituencies are on those current government porgrams (I.E. Medicare, Veterans health care) etc. True, they are not perfect but they do offer coverage to those that qualify.

Futher, the Republican's hypothetical arguements about what health care reform could lead to just doesn't hold water because they are after all hypothetical scenarios that have not played out. Their arguements are no different than the other side stating that government run health care will work perfectly. I think the truth though is probably somewhere in between. The Republicans main problem is, that it will be very difficult to convince their constituencies that no health care coverage at all is better than government run health care coverage for all. I just don't see their constituencies buying that especially when they are faced with rising health care costs that they cannot afford.

dnegri's picture

This was a committee amendment, meaning it was voted on in committee. No Republican voted to abolish Medicare. Weiner called their "bluff" and they folded....

General Jack D. Ripper's picture

Good for Weiner. More people need to call out these Repugs for what they truly are....greedy, fear mongering, war mongering, lying sons of bitches.

Too funny! I love a good play on words!

Is it true Ms. Schnitzle is having an affair with her schnauzer?

Here's the woman who will be responsible for killing [pun intended] health care reform.

But unless the Dems start shouting down this "euthanasia" progaganda, things could get out of hand quickly. It's going to be a long August recess.

Recess is always when the bullies come out.

(No, not that way...)

Diabolus est Deus Inversus

theWalrus's picture

she created this lie a month and a half ago! The Dems should have dealt with it swiftly and forcefully (like, duh, the next day). They didn't, it's made the rounds of the rightwing echo chamber and now it's filtering out to the populace as if it's true.

How many thousands of years will it take the Dems to understand this simple but effective tactic that the rightwingers use over and over again?

KWillow's picture

don't want Gov't health care either, remember? Most of them have been heavily bribed donated to by the insurance companies.

They are just going thru the motions. Possibly they'll pass something whimpy and useless, but know what? People aren't giving up, we are going to keep the pressure on.

bmw 528's picture

I agree with you, the Dems should be more proactive about response. More often than not they disguise their lack of assertiveness as "conciliation" which is utter bullshit. What is there to reconcile with inbeciles and idiots? What the hell does it take for these people to take the gloves off and start swinging?

"We will find fulfillment not in the goods that we have, but in the good we can do for each other."

Robert F. Kennedy

What is this guy doing? Republicans would gladly repeal Medicare and Social Security in a hearbeat.

glogrrl's picture

then they'd never get elected to public office ever again. Seniors are the ones who vote ALL THE TIME! If the Rethugs take away Granny's healthcare and her only means of support, she's gonna vote the bastards out of office in a heartbeat.

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”

NoBuddy's picture

Repealing Social Security and Medicare is political suicide, otherwise they would have done it under the Bush regime, when they had the majority in the House and Senate. Instead, I suspect they set upon this agenda using the "starve the beast" approach, by running up the deficits, so that cutbacks in the programs would be inevitable.

I think this is what is known as "irony."

who wants to be that she has been banging john ziegler

glogrrl's picture

and then they'll run as a team of "Family Values" candidates in 2012!! But, nah, her mouthpiece says rumors are not true. I bet they planted those rumors to keep her name in the news....once she resigned, people were beginning to forget about her.....or wishing they could!!

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”

theWalrus's picture

the rumour is that she's been having an affair with William Ayers. I mean, she talked about him so much - constantly - and you know how opposites attract and all..

then next week they announce that it is true

then 10 days later she tells the world that she is moving to los angeles to be with her love...john ziegler, and leaving todd to take care of the kids

you heard it here....first

Actually, ROFLMAO!

There is no mention of this online...

Google "news", for the denial story. That's always precedes the truth coming out.

Example:

I was not cruising for washroom sex, nor am I gay. I just like tapping my feet in washrooms, and signaling men to join me from under the partition wall: again, I am not gay, I never have been gay. I merely signed a confession under durress, but I'm not gay.

It can be so much fun. As a Dutchman myself I can confirm that I'm also one of those people that has NEVER smoked pot. Surprise, Surprise!! And yes, I'm well insured. And my health is tip-top, and so is the rest of the country.

This maybe a bit off topic but when you can correct no one other than Bill O'Reilly on the facts I will not miss the opportunity. And somewhat on topic in this clip, the ammount of drug related deaths.

Take a look.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTPsFIsxM3w

It seems some people don't want you to see this, as it is flagged. Beats me why... Could be that just seeing the face of O'Reilly could generate nausea.

Q's picture

Excellent! We need more Representatives & Senators like him who are willing to stand up and call the GOPigs out on their bullshit.

NoBuddy's picture

I think we can go offense on this. How 'bought a bumper sticker that has the GOP logo to the left - logo that looks like this:

http://morethanhiphop.com/blog/wp-content/upl...

And to the right of the logo, two lines that read like this:

Oppose Socialized Medicine
Repeal Medicare Now

Not only would that reach the elderly, it would reach the near-elderly, eg, the baby boomers. And let the Republicans go on the defensive on how they hate socialized medicine, but are OK with Medicare. The Republicans have been given a pass on their ideology too long. The best defense is offense, and it's long overdue to start becoming offensive.

dnegri's picture

You need to shorten it (get bigger more readable letters). How about:

VOTE GOP! REPEAL SOCIALIZED MEDICARE NOW!

Thanks Heather. And Thank YOU congressman Weiner.

We should take this clip and make it the centerpiece of the battle to reform the reform.

Send it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry, but I'm still thinking that what's coming down the pike is some kind of health care trojan horse. There's no way the medial lobbyists are not going to get their way.
