Tucker Carlson: Palin More Experienced Than Obama and Smarter Than Al Gore
From C-SPAN's Washington Journal, the Carlson twins (not really) Margaret and Tucker showed up to give us some of their Villager insight on the news of the day. When asked about how people feel about quitter Sarah-Barracuda, Tucker pulled out the tired old McCain campaign rhetoric about how President Obama is "less experienced" than Palin even though he thinks there should be "more respect for the office" than to want to elect either one of them. Tucker added that he believes Palin is smarter than Al Gore, and just thinks its "weird" that anyone would be terrified of her and afraid that she might actually have a chance of being elected President.
Margaret played nice and just followed up by saying that Sarah didn't strike her as much of a reader. She reads alright Margaret--Newsmax and The John Birch Society.
Tucker gave me an excuse to to post this exchange where Jon Stewart treated Carlson with the disdain he deserves for his hackery. No more bow tie these days, but no less idiotic.

I've also come across this show at times when I can't sleep, and the only two redeeming things about it are that: 1) they generally have some vapid hot woman on who (according to Fox News mandates) shows more leg than you'll generally see on basic cable, and 2) that these guys are the guys who sat at the loser's table at lunch in high school, and now you get to hear what they were actually talking about at lunch in high school, and how it's pretty much what you thought they were talking about (about how much everyone else who didn't sit at the loser's table were, in fact, loser's, and how they, the loser's, were not loser's, when in fact, they were and still are, loser's). Jon Stewart's appearance on Crossfire marked the beginning of the end of that show I believe. It's sad, but it's downfall also marked the beginning of the modern 24 hour "news" networks current model - putting out the news by having 2 people on opposite sides of the same issue spend 5-10 minutes shouting at one another over the issue at hand.
Here's my problem with talking to people who seem to think that THIS type of bullshit passes as news - there is an old saying I hear all the time when discussing politics with people - if a politician is talking, they're probably lying. Now, if Republicans say one thing and Democrats say the opposite, one of them is at least closer to the truth than the other (as I do believe the world is gray - not black and white). It USED to be the job of a journalist to go out and figure out which is which, but anymore, that gets dismissed by just saying "oh well that person is clearly liberal" or "they're conservative" or any of that nonsense. Maybe 2% of the people on TV that call themselves journalists actually are journalists anymore and it's very sad that the same is starting to become true of newspapers as well.
