Tea Party Leader Mark Williams Mocks NAACP "Coloreds" In Online Screed
Isn't this just lovely? I guess Mark Williams decided he had to one up himself after his remarks about the NAACP on NPR. As Keith notes at the end of his Tea Time segment if the Tea Party doesn't want to be considered racist and they don't repudiate Mark Williams "only four words will have to be spoken to prove you wrong, the Mark Williams letter."
h/t Balloon Juice
Tea Party Leader Mocks NAACP "Coloreds" In Online Screed:
Williams, however, is doing little to refute the notion that there is racism in the Tea Party movement. Last night, the proud Tea Partier wrote a blog post mocking NAACP president Benjamin Jealous. The post takes the form of a fake letter to Abraham Lincoln, in which Jealous asks the former president to repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments (and to reinstate slavery) because the "coloreds" don't agree with the Tea Party's version of "freedom."
The entire post is quoted below:
NAACP Resolution: Colored People change minds about emancipation
Astonishing.
In every one of the dozens of interviews that I have done regarding the anti-Tea Party resolution passed by the NAACP I have brought up the absurdity of a group that calls blacks "Colored People" hurling charges of racism. Whats more, each interviewer has defended that phrase and expressed surprise that I would consider that phrase to be racist!
Apparently Colored People are an entirely new race of people and one to which the title applies. Here NAACP President Precious Ben Jealous explains to President Abraham Lincoln the reasons for the resolution in this newly discovered letter :
Dear Mr. Lincoln
We Colored People have taken a vote and decided that we don't cotton to that whole emancipation thing. Freedom means having to work for real, think for ourselves, and take consequences along with the rewards. That is just far too much to ask of us Colored People and we demand that it stop!
In fact we held a big meeting and took a vote in Kansas City this week. We voted to condemn a political revival of that old abolitionist spirit called the 'tea party movement'.
The tea party position to "end the bailouts" for example is just silly. Bailouts are just big money welfare and isn't that what we want all Coloreds to strive for? What kind of racist would want to end big money welfare? What they need to do is start handing the bail outs directly to us coloreds! Of course, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is the only responsible party that should be granted the right to disperse the funds.
And the ridiculous idea of "reduce[ing] the size and intrusiveness of government." What kind of massa would ever not want to control my life? As Coloreds we must have somebody care for us otherwise we would be on our own, have to think for ourselves and make decisions!
The racist tea parties also demand that the government "stop the out of control spending." Again, they directly target Colored People. That means we Colored People would have to compete for jobs like everybody else and that is just not right.
Perhaps the most racist point of all in the tea parties is their demand that government "stop raising our taxes." That is outrageous! How will we Colored People ever get a wide screen TV in every room if non-coloreds get to keep what they earn? Totally racist! The tea party expects coloreds to be productive members of society?
Mr. Lincoln, you were the greatest racist ever. We had a great gig. Three squares, room and board, all our decisions made by the massa in the house. Please repeal the 13th and 14th Amendments and let us get back to where we belong.
Sincerely
Precious Ben Jealous, Tom's Nephew National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Head Colored Person

I was in a bar one evening.
The woman bartender said; I never
thought I would see the day in America
when we would be voting for a
n---er for president.
I am telling you these people are insane.
There is no way around it.
They thought that we would put
the crazy old man and the moose meat
momma in there and it would be bushland
and all the little nazi racists would be happy.
One told me a couple of weeks ago that the
muslims that live in thie country are just
waiting for the word to start fighting us
in the streets!
I tell you these people are crazy!
Back when Jesse Jackson was running, he made a stop in Wisconsin's northern agricultural region. A reporter standing behind two guys wearing feed caps at the edge of the crowd heard one say to the other: "Who do you like, the n*gger or the other guy?"
The reply: "I kinda like the n*gger."
Some parts of America have advanced at a greater pace than some others.....
Did you tell off the bartender?
Remember when Jesse Jackson was uber-pissed at Obama?
"Barack...he's talking down to black people...telling n***ers how to behave."
At least he didn't say coloreds.
... so much as ignorant. Blissfully and self-deludedly self-imposed proud American ignorance.

They are stupid and crazy. George bush gave them the confidence to show their stupidity and now the tea party has given them the confidence to show their craziness.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
I have no idea how some people can come to this. We are all human. Everyone has feelings, thoughts, despair, doubts, joy and sometimes sorrow. I think it is sometimes has to do with the person's surroundings and how they are brought up..
sometimes the things they come up with, and say openly will hurt other people. They have to learn to respect others. peace to all.
Fear must be taught. It’s not instinctual. We spend years of our early lives learning what to fear. Most times that learning is helpful. It’s good to fear boiling water on a stove splashing you. Sometimes it’s not helpful. Sometimes it’s irrational, and irrational fear leads to hate. Hate causes a flight or fight response. Lashing out is part of that fighting.
Any time I encounter very hateful people, I ask myself what they’re afraid of. It’s not that I tolerate the hatred, but it is enlightening.
Yep. they are unhappy. Miserable in fact.
It's not healthy.
We need a healthy person in office, not a sour racist.
People. Do you even know a Republican these days, that
is not sour, miserable to be around or listen to, and
isn't racist?
If you do, bring them here for de-breifing. We all want
to know who it is!

that they said similar things too, about John Kennedy because he was an Irish Catholic - People who think the way these "people" do are beyond reproach and contempt. They have tiny reptillian fight or flight brains, that are incapable of logical thought, and are devoid of human emotions outside of the most base - They are fearful of anyone not of their "tribe".
Once again, we see the prescience of Mike Judge's little known masterpiece "Idiocracy" Mike was being far too optimistic however in predicting it would take 500 years. We have managed to devolve in a fraction of that time.

My best friend's relatively "moderate" Republican parents and friends openly call Obama the N-word, offsetting pretty much all arguments I've heard that only fringe conservatives are racist, and are centered on by a liberal-biased media.
You only need to uh.. "observe them in their natural habitat", so to speak.
The "N" word has not been used in any house or place I have lived. I can't even imagine. Coloured is just the same.

...just happened to be the funniest man in the world. Micheal Richards is an overrated bore who had no business doing stand up in the first place and turned into the prototypical angry bigot when hecklers called him out on his obvious lack of talent.
The social double standard that exists with the usage of the N-word is the bizarre result of hundreds of years of whites being free to completely degrade Blacks however they wished while demanding God like respect.
Live with it.
So you're agreeing with me?

...use the word anymore. I got a young black guy off for a ridiculous nonviolent drug charge last month(don't do drugs...but think that they should be legalized). After court this twenty year old was so happy(he was looking at two months in County lock up)he hugged me and said, "My N***a!" Now your argument is that when a white person says it they(and historically) mean the same thing. Think about it.
It means that a black person trusted you and appreciated you so much that he bestowed you with a word that he would normally only trust in the hands of black people.
It doesn't mean he's your Ni*ga, though because white people lost their right to use the word that way forever. . . and rightly so.

It's clear the Tea Baggers are not only sexual deviates but they are scary and dangerous 'Born Again' Racists.
Another obvious clue to this disturbing fact is they were bred right after a qualified so called 'half black' person became President.
I guess this explains why there
are so few teabaggers who are also
people of color.

when does CNN offer him a spot in primetime?
But they shoved one of the eight black tea partiers on instead. As usual with conservatives he tried to filibuster the NAACP rep by continually talking over him.
I use to wonder why the French beheaded Marie Antoinette, now I get it.
It's not a joke if no one laughs. Anyone who laughed at this garbage reduced themselves to the level of the writer.
Could he do any more to prove what the NAACP's, Ben Jealous, said? Williams proved that he is an ass and he represents asses which are mostly white and racist.

And we thought American political thought had reached bottom.

Yes, it was Keith's show. I just called a local book store to see if they had it in stock. The lady I talked to asked me the title of the book and I told her. Then she said, Oh I saw the author on Keith's show last night and I want to read it too. She didn't have any in stock but she ordered one for me and one for her. She thanked me for calling because she had forgotten the title of the book until I asked for it.
Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.
As an African American, I've heard some people question why the NAACP hasn't changed it's name. Not only is it trademarked but, it's a long standing and well known name and they deceided to keep it. I don't have a problem with it. What I do have a problem with are idiots like Williams using it as a slur. These ignorant bastards are racist and prove it everytime they open their mouths! Bite me Mark!
Risk of rabies.
because he doesn't understand that certain words have bad connotations. I'll bet you $100 that Mark Williams probably thinks that everything said in Gone With The Wind is non-offensive.
Tim Wise is right, certain classes of white people (Teabaggers namely) just don't understand racism. They have no idea what they're talking about.
The best way to send a racist into a massive irrational freakout is to suggest that they might be racist.
It's kind of like telling a closeted gay basher that they might be gay. The head just explodes.
People who aren't racists actually listen and take it to heart when people of other races suggest we should modify something because we know we aren't authorities on the subject.
The surest sign of white racists is that they think they are unquestionable authorities about what racism is.
i myself have a problem with identity politics, but only so far as it interferes with class consciousness; thing is, this country is still some what racist (as this idiot proves), and racism by its nature puts "colored" peoples into a class by themselves. an observant person just has to acknowledge the existence of racism in this country.
point is, what this guy is spouting is complete and total utter bullshit; and what he should really do is go to Arlington National Cemetery and go down the rows, and spit on the graves of the soldiers who have died for this country. better still, why doesn't he find the graves of african-american soldiers and just piss on their graves, amounts to the same thing.
Medgar Wiley Evers (July 2, 1925 – June 12, 1963) was an African American civil rights activist from Mississippi who was buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery after being assassinated by Ku Klux Klan member Byron De La Beckwith.

Evers fought in France, the European Theatre of WWII and was honorably discharged in 1945 as a Sergeant.
i want to know if this gutless bastard has ever even been through basic.
I have noticed that the spinless Rethugs who scream the loudest (Cheney, Bush, Rove, various righty pundits--Beck, Limbaugh, Will, O'Lielly, Hannity, etc.) seem to always be the ones who weaseled out of active duty by lying, privilege, outright refusing to join or serve in the defense of America. However, they are always the first in line to profit from the Military Industrial Complex and to cheer on the Great American War Machine.
“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
I wonder if Cheney has a co-pay under his socialist healthcare coverage.

“The greatest evildoers are those who don’t remember because they have never given thought to the matter, and, without remembrance, nothing can hold them back,”
I often see just comments made on many issues, often failing to diagnose the true engine of said opinions, in the interests of self-preservation.
The source of so much conflict is also the source of so much comfort, facts don't matter when feelings do. The concerns are not unlike the ones... we've had since day-one. There is good and bad in all, what triggers it is an idea. If we were all blind, would there be racism? If we could see but not talk, would there be racism?

Helen Keller, who devoted much of her later life to raising funds for the American Foundation for the Blind, never wavered in her belief that our society needed radical change. Having herself fought so hard to speak, she helped found the American Civil Liberties Union to fight for the free speech of others. She sent $100 to the NAACP with a letter of support that appeared in its magazine The Crisis—a radical act for a white person from Alabama in the 1920s.
She supported Eugene V. Debs, the Socialist candidate, in each of his campaigns for the presidency. She composed essays on the women's movement, on politics, on economics. Near the end of her life, she wrote to Elizabeth Gurley Flynn, leader of the American Communist Party, who was then languishing in jail, a victim of the McCarthy era: “Loving birthday greetings, dear Elizabeth Flynn! May the sense of serving mankind bring strength and peace into your brave heart!”... Lies My Teacher Told Me:
Study the symptoms not the virus...
As a member of the Princeton chapter of the NAACP, Albert Einstein corresponded with Du Bois, and in 1946 Einstein called racism "America's worst disease".
During the 1920s, Du Bois engaged in a bitter feud with Marcus Garvey. They disagreed over whether African Americans could be assimilated as equals into American society (the view held by Du Bois). Their dispute descended to personal attacks, sometimes based on ancestry. Du Bois wrote, "Garvey is, without doubt, the most dangerous enemy of the Negro race in America and in the world. He is either a lunatic or a traitor." Garvey described Du Bois as "purely and simply a white man's nig-ger" and "a little Dutch, a little French, a little Negro ... a mulatto ... a monstrosity."

I remember a relative tentatively using the "N" word soon after Reagan got elected. Kind of like "can I really get away with this again?"
That's why they complain about having to be "peee ceee" all the time. When I hear a teabagger say that, I know what they want to say, just one word. Tell someone not to do something and you get a counter-reaction from people who enjoyed it so much. It's such an easy way to say "I'm so much better than THOSE people."
I think that it's the same with Beck and Rush. When they found that they weren't limited by a demand for truth and proof or to speak to reality, they felt truly liberated. As a Bush White Housemate said back in 2002, "we're not limited by reality."

And this fool thinks that the letter was offensive solely because of his use of the word "colored people". Again, this moron just doesn't get it.
At least we don't have to pretend as if they ever had a valid point about fiscal responsibility. It was always about race with them. These teabaggers were silent when Bush turned a surplus into a deficit and lied us into a multi trillion dollar war with a country that didn't attack us. They suddenly find a reason to protest when Obama tries to get a healthcare bill passed and I'm supposed to take them seriously. They can go f*ck themselves.
I have always argued for an end to "PC" practices from the right-wing. It's a reason I uh.. "respect" Limbaugh, in the loosest sense of the word. Because he just comes right out and says things, damn the consequences.

"What's all this talk about welfare? That's what restaurant dumpsters are for."
"Liberals are like al-qaeda, they target black people for recruitment."
Yes, I say, bring it all out in the open. I can only HOPE... and dear god, do I hope, that people find it offensive, because if they come out with this rhetoric and people vote for them anyways, or even- because they AGREE with it, well, other countries start looking pretty good to move to.
Just let it all hang out - the good, the bad and the ugly. I wish they would just come out and say they are racist and proud of it so then we can all move on and quit playing that "Is he or isn't he a racist game?".
The only worrisome thing is that some people may actually support the racists and agree with them, at which point were screwed lol. Just like when Rand Paul said that businesses that discriminate based on race shouldn't be told by the government to stop, the public should decide with their dollars. Yeah, well what if the public supports it and the business is successful? Then what?
Well, that's the thing. I would LOVE to say, and I would have said, years back... "Pfff. Lookit these morons. Counting on America to be as hateful and greedy as they are."
But today... I genuinely.. don't know. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I think the tea party is some sorta monster majority of the country, but... I just thought we were a smarter, empathetic country once. I'm not so sure, anymore.
I'm just shocked because it seems like the nutjobs, racists and fearmongers are coming out of the woodworks with a vengance. The fact that these people are given a platform to spew this BS is what is astounding to me. The fact that these tea party people are taken seriously by our media and are not called out on their BS makes me depressed.
Let the tealiban continue to show their true colors and we'll see come November whether the country accepts or rejects what they're selling.
Those who believe that crap will never be swayed. I just don't want people to try and engage in intellectual dishonesty by pretending that offensive language isn't offensive on its face. Let em rant. Let em own their words. I lay the blame soundly on the Dems if they DON'T use this behavior/language when campaigning and soft peddle these nuts. If you're a bug, come out into the light so that we can see you. Let others be able to make an informed choice so that everyone knows what and who they support
Those who believe that crap will never be swayed. I just don't want people to try and engage in intellectual dishonesty by pretending that offensive language isn't offensive on its face. Let em rant. Let em own their words.
And for crying out loud, let's stop pretending that there's anything to be gained by attempting to engage these idiots in some sort of dialogue. There's nothing to reach out to here -- just an empty void of hate and rage. People like Mark Williams are not rational, they don't think, and they're never going to change. Stop worrying that calling them out for what they are -- a gang of stupid, mindless, hateful and irrational bigots -- is somehow shortchanging their position or reflects elitism on our part. They're not worthy of anything but outright dismissal. They don't merit anything but utter contempt. We are smarter and better than they are.
That's not elitism talking, just a simple statement of fact. These people are monsters, and you don't work with monsters; you just work to defeat them, period.

He's calling it a parody. Your point still stands.
And from what I've read on other blogs, a lot of folks think this is ok.
He's calling it a parody.
That's nothing but a lame-assed excuse to trot out every racist cliche in the book. If he were just making fun of the NAACP, there'd be no reason to drag in all those offensive references to "massa" and big screen televisions. Mark Williams was simply playing to his racist base here and projecting his own prejudices, and in so doing, only succeeded in driving home Mr. Jealous's point.
And, of course, now he's gone and scrubbed the entire post from his website, replacing it with some mewly crap about "extending an olive branch." F*cking p**sy.
I don't believe the proper characterization of this letter would be a "parody", but of course this idiot thinks that calling it that will somehow "dress it up." I'd be interested to know if Mr. Jealous has actually seen the "error of his ways" and called for a round table discussion with this mental midget. Somehow, I think this too is a gross mischaracterization of the facts (AKA a big fat bleeping lie). I could be wrong...but I doubt it considering the source.
A round table discussion with Mark Williams? It would be more productive, and probably more entertaining, to engage in a two-hour exchange of views with a cockroach.
Mr. Williams contacted Mr. Jealous in an attempt to have a "discussion". Per the blurb, it doesn't appear that Mr. Jealous has responded, nor should he feel compelled to do so. Nothing productive can come from a discussion with this ignorant man. The letter seems to have been the least offensive post on his site.
Gosh, you don't understand anything about conservative "humor".
Political correctness is ruining everything!
Perhaps I'd have gotten the joke, though, if he'd included a photoshopped picture of Ben Jealous tap-dancing with a big old Stepin Fetchin grin on his face, holding a slice of watermelon in one hand and a fried chicken leg in the other.
And that United Negro College Fund! They're like the Klan!
White Republicans are the only people who can save black people from themselves. Sit down and shut up and let us reshape the US into mythical 1950s, where white republicans were called "sir" and could call someone "boy" with impunity. You know, better times for all!
But the Racist and bigoted Reslugs just say it ain't so.
...has the gall to point out Teabagger racism?
These schlubby, hate-filled, Teabaggers are only going to get worse. As was posted by one of the commenters, they immediately get the token black person to speak on the subject after this egregious example of open racism. Now true, there are a few melanin rich folks in the Tea Party, but then again, as a Latino I grew up in the Mormon Church ( which I fled immediately upon turning 18) and I can tell you all about the self-loathing brown people I met there. But again, just like the Mormon Cult, the Tea Party needs delusional followers. Again, not stupid, just angry and delusional fools.
... is human swill.

first the idiot goes on national TV to say neither he nor the teabaggers are racist then he writes this racist letter....
It's as if he has given up already.

This man is unhealthy. Deseased.
We want balanced, healthy people, not these reThug types.

Although this type of personality generally bothers me, reading about RWA clued me into their twisted brains. I'd like to see Mark William's results, which would certainly be high but below Beck and Hannity.
I am astonished that any American would publish such a racist piece! The winking eye words, such as "cotton" as used in "I don't cotton to..." Give us a break! Remember, the GOP needs these wealthy bigots to win in '12. Only by distancing itself from the racists can the GOP win independents, and distancing itself from racism will upset its base. And I DO mean base. The GOP is in an unenviable position at this point.

I know I may be expecting a lot but have any of you self rightous Obamaphiles ever heard of sarcasm? That is cutting remarks that mean the opposite of what they seem to say and are intended to mock or deride or illustrate a point. Mark Williams was exercising his 1st amendment rights when he wrote that letter.
Ever since your "messiah" took office, racial tension have been on the rise. Far from eing post-racial he is back in the 1950's trying to stir up racial hatred and divide the country along economic lines.
As a Tea Party activist I can tell you we are not interested in race or party politics. We want the fed. gov't to listen to the people, to stop spending our tax money like drunken sailors, and most importantly, to follow the Constitution as it was written, not as they would like it to be.
By the way, "teabaggers" is a crude, disgusting sexual term. You call people names when you have no facts to argue. We are activists and patriots.
that you're as big a fool as he is.
He's a shock jock. On the ethical development scale, they rank between slugs and mildew.
Unfortunately if someone speaks the truth or writes a satire with a truthful element, it is immediately regarded as racist. Furthermore it is nauseating how white liberals exploit black people and pretend to care when the only thing liberals want from black people is their vote
