Susan Collins wants to offer amendments to the health care bill that she will not vote for in order to "improve" it. From Digby:

This is what I was talking about last night when I wrote "this bill probably isn't bad enough for Lieberman and his cronies to allow Democrats to commit political suicide with it."

Nobody who has announced that they will not vote for this bill should be allowed to "improve" it at this point. Unless, of course, the point is to take out every remaining piece that could even slightly offset the mandate. Which it might be. After all, Republicans are really messed up these days and need something clean and simple to run on. The least the Democrats can do is help them out.

I agree. They should not be allowing this, but they've been doing that from day one with all of the Republican amendments that were accepted in the Finance Committee. Heaven forbid they might stop now.

Listen to this drooling, forked tongue ignoramus speak. If you believe this blatant liar, you ought to be in a mental ward---with her and her neanderthal Neocon comrades.

need to figuar out how to make these peoples lives in office a living hell!
I am not sure how but there has got to be some way to annoy, aggravate, disgust, agitate, and in general do everything we can to be as annoying as say a swarm of flies or mosqitoes.
I am willing to put soem time and thought into it what about you?
Lets make them so miserable that they will just quit!

Best fix - vote them out of office.

I see the new generation of broadband access as a vehicle for people out of state to effect the politics once reserved for only in state folks.

We have to do all we can - donate until it hurts - and get the slugs replaced with new slugs and see if that helps.

bamboozled and lied to Americans, (change you can believe in) hoping it would be too late for us to do anything about it I think that's a great idea.

from collins we want to make sure this health care insurance cost reform fails so we can continue to demonize any/all government programs for the sake of capitalism.

to give members of CONgress more time to strong-arm more dough out of the corpgov-pharma crowd to fatten up their campaign treasuries to keep real change from being elected.

The degradation of our educational system over the past four decades along with the (not coincidental) concomitant rise in religious conservatism has brought us to this sad pass, voting people into office because they are perceived by the uniformed to stand for something as nebulous as "family" or "Christian values" (e.g., anti-abortion) all the while once in office they act in complete contradistinction to the same. The ancient Greeks were faced with the same problem. Many of the best minds of the time realized that without proper education the masses in a democracy will fall prey to every demagogue and snake oil salesman that comes along with the inevitable result that society will ultimately suffer for it.

"Nobody who has announced that they will not vote for this bill.."

A double negative Digby?I'm scandalized.

We've seen who the straight ones are , who the sell out whores are and their numbers , at this point it looks like any bill that would get the votes would be a bad bill , a gift to the Insurance companies and Pharma , and likely even worse than passing nothing . I hope the good guys stop this entire process , kill it , we are not getting "reform" , isn't going to happen .

holding office as miserable as possible is the best idea of the day.

..Sanders from VT said he will not vote for it: 55 for, 45 against. The bill is DOA! Reconciliation NOW and let the rape-ublican'ts and joe lieberman eat feces.

Screw you b***h, and the horse you rode in on.

I don't know who I detest more; these republicrat sociopath's, or the teabagger morons who support them?

Like Carlin said; maybe its not the politicians who suck? Maybe its the people who vote for them that suck?

Yes, 50% of the american people suck, which is why our government representative's suck.

Makes sense to me.

NoGWB, look at our elected officials, then look carefully at our people. They are a very close reflection of each other. If the politician seems ignorant and stupid, then he sure as hell did not get elected by well informed, intelligent people. You hit the nail on the head.

Did Bush cave to the Dems every time they flexed their pecs during his 8 year "run for the roses"?

"Did Bush cave to the Dems every time they flexed their pecs.."

When did that happen? I think there may have been a few assorted "harrumphs" from time to time. Some impolite coughing and nervous giggling...

She did sound a little silly about her praise of the amendments to the bill she won't vote for. However she's not like demint and that chucklehead out in Oklahoma, what's his name? inhofe. demint only wants to get the black guy out of the presidency no matter what it takes, and inhofe won't even read anything about health care reform much less the bill in the senate.

At least Collins is actively involved in the bill as is Olympia Snowe. Compared to those other republican creeps (and joe lieberman) these two women belong high on a cloud way above all other reepublicans.

Political Pinball's picture

Do you think Collins is purposely killing the bill or is she unaware that she and the others are killing the bill? Furthermore, how much did the insurance companies buy her for?

Evet's picture

her staff order 12 boxes of sugar donuts be delivered this morning so everyone has a healthy breakfast and lunch with all this extra work. They'll order Pepperoni pizza tonight for dinner since they are all going to work late on this Health Care Bill thingy.

mikerush's picture

is to let this bill come up to a vote, let it be defeated, then let those politicians who voted it down run on that record. Since a large majority of the citizens in this country want meaningful health care reform it should make for a very interesting political season. As was mentioned above, we need to donate until it hurts to campaigns all over the country. Get these scumsuckers out of D.C. and let them try to buy insurance on their own dime---if they can qualify.

Terrible's picture

This bill is not what Americans want. This bill is a giveaway to the insurance industry! With nothing for the American public that can be called care or reform.

Problem is, most of these scum suckers 1) are rich enough to self-insure and 2) will move into cushy private sector position sitting on the boards of the very corporations they're now lackeying to to screw the American public. They'll be well looked after. Unlike you and me.

Terrible's picture

Bernie Sanders who most definitely will not vote for this insurance giveaway bill should be allowed to improve it by scrapping every bit of it and replacing it with Single Payer Universal health CARE for EVERY American!

And blame Republicans, that career ********** Lieberman, etc. when they knew all along that they didn't want health care reform.

Yesterday many commentors at this site were completely willing to capitulate to this awful Rovian scheme.

Shame on Democrats, Obama.

I agree. They should not be allowing this,

It's very easy...no one is asking progressives to like it. Just be quiet and suck it, bitches.

I don't think so.

Collins represents my state and has always touted herself as "bipartisan." In fact, Biden's wisecrack about Rudy - a noun, a verb, and 9/11" is appropriate for Fozzie Bear Collins (excuse me Fozzie, but she sounds like you). In her case it's a noun, a verb and bipartisan.

Collins is a party-line hack. The only time she votes with the Democrats is when it will make no difference. She does it to be able to underscore her "bipartisan" credentials.

Until the health insurance reform debate, I had thought better of Olympia, but she's proved to be no better.

I can now live up to my screen name honestly. Never again will I connect the arrow beside an (R).

"They should not be allowing this, but they've been doing that from day one with all of the Republican amendments that were accepted in the Finance Committee."

Absolutely. This is more proof, if you needed it, of the astounding ineptitude of the Senate Democrats. Their political and parlimentary incompetence is staggering.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories but can they really be this fucking stupid?

And everyone should trust Joe Liberman's mistress just as much as they trust Joe. No I don't have proof, but I see the way they look at each in committee hearings and during press conferences.

Collins is just pissed off that Snowe is getting all the press.
