..did I think that was funny? (sigh)NO

and he wasn't even TRYING to impersonate barack obama... what WAS that?

possibly a 'call to arms', but didn't seem helpful at all...

funny how the blame shifts to the evil republicans, and don't get me wrong, there's plenty wrong with them too. the 2 party system has really lead to an easier target for corporations to buy off. and make no mistake, most every person in Congress has been paid for in full by someone, for some purpose other than representing their districts.

It's only been ____ months!
Would you rather have _____ as the alternative?
At least he's NOT Rethuglican!
It isn't him, he's playing 3 dimensional chess!
(insert excuses here Dems)

Unlike McGrampa and his Nurse we arn't at war in Iran, the economy didn't colapse, and we havn't been attacked again. And if you count in the fact that, unlike Bushco, Obama has not looted the treasury and Obama actually is putting people with acutal experience into critical positions.

So are we better off with a slow moving Democrat or another Anti-America POS Republican (and I don't give a shit about McCain's war record just like the repugs didn't give a shit about Kerry's) - the answer is YES!

Excuse #2 for you!!

So no matter what, it's better than the alternative. K.

I wouldn't put stock in any Republican in this country, they do not put Country First as they claim and they do not support the America people. - Why would anyone want a Republican back in office, wasn't the last 8 years enough of a disaster?

Oh yeah, that's right the repugs would never take responsiblity for their own failures, it was Clinton's fault right?

of the last 8 years only the last year was bad, and Obama has been Pres for most of it!!

I was under the impression that after the coup of 2000, CheneyBushCo was in charge...This is Drudge-like in its fantasticness. So you are saying Barack Obama was in charge during the CheneyBushCo reign of terror? Do tell. Developing, I'm sure

Except in 2001. The biggest attack to happen in the US EVER

Nevermind they had the intel on it. He went on vacation. Don't ignore that.

I seem to remember the asshole in chief reading a kiddies book while planes were flying into a couple of towers in NYC? The way Bush started two [illegal] wars? That shit kept me safe? The way his and Cheney's cronies cleaned out the treasury paying no bid contractors whose substandard work in war zones sickened our troops? They way over 4000 of our troops were killed in the ME? That's kept me safe? Ignoring warnings about banking and environmental disasters looming? That's kept me safe?

Face it. Your boy was an incompetent asshole, and a figurehead for the coup.

[Comment Deleted By Administration For Violation Of Terms Of Service]

This. And this. For starters.

Have I got a deal for you! Do you want to buy a watch cat? I have not been burglarized since I got her five years ago, she must be doing a great job of chasing away cat burglars!

hids6946...

Go back to Fox. Facts will get in the way here.

That's a good assessment. We're pretty much out of people to send to wars but the GOP sure doesn't mind starting them.

I am so tired of the its better than the alternative argument. Have Americans lost the will to demand results and whomever is elected to deliver sound policy?

Screw the better than alternative B.S. I for one will speak out and vote for someone who will stick to their convictions. The presidency is the should be the least of our worries because he really can only sign what is sent to him from Congress. If the way elections are funded is not fundamentally changed, don't expect much to change regardless of whether a Democrat or Republican wins the presidency. Congress has sold out.

You nailed it. Most of Congress is bought and paid for by the corporations. This prez is not a dictator (BushCo tried to be).

Unless you've been asleep, McCain and Palin WERE the alternative.

Frankly, that may have been better because in my view, it would have ushered in the exponential fall of the neocons to the dustbin of history. Where they belong. Instead we have the rats gnawing at the edges and discrediting our democracy with false charges of fraud (birth certificate) and treason (marxism), something you seem to favor.

Pointing out that Obama is a Milquetoast right-centrist who would rather hold hands with his political enemies than govern with the strong progressive mandate he was sent to the White House with is good.

At least the progressives are trying to hold the presidents feet to the fire. What's wrong with that? What else should we do? Maybe we should stand behind his static agenda like the good Obamabots we are supposed to be and profess our undying allegiance to HIM.

Sorry but that's the conservative way with their leaders. See, they don't find anything wrong with their failure, ever. They don't fail in their own minds.

i get it, got it, and agree...

Sad clip. Frustrating situation. Thanks for the glass half full reminder. I needed it.

I watched the move “Next” with Nick Cage the other day. It was a better movie than I expected (written by the same author that did “Minority Report”). It got me thinking about steps and missteps we all take every day; about that butterfly flapping its wings on the beach. Historians call alternate timelines counterfactuals. They are mostly fantasy. Still, what-ifs are fun to play.

Here’s an old one that was fun:
http://firedoglake.com/2007/03/31/2001-a-time...

My point is, even the best of us make missteps. The very best, the great ones, make fewer.

I think Barry is a good president. I think, as a good president and over the last 9 months, he has made missteps. Unfortunately, after the last 10 years we have lived, we didn’t need a good president, we needed a great one. We only got good.

Obama WAS/IS burdened by the weight of BushCo, which nearly destroyed this country and everything we thought it stood for. If the pieces can be put back together, it will take much more time than we thought and hoped. We may not be healing quickly, but the hemorrhaging is no longer killing us.

So yes, the “excuses” of “he has only had ___ months” and “at least _____ didn’t win” are valid. Sure, it could be better – much better. But also it could be much worse.

Well said.
Lets just say I have a little more patience than some.

But I have to say, so far, I have been dissapointed. Upholding (and even enlarging) some of the pernicious Bush policies was not something I expected. That the DOJ and Cabinets are still stuffed with Loyal Bushie [tm] staffers I find disturbing. The disinterest to hold former Bushies accountable for alledged abuses of power and possible criminal activities is also a big letdown. Allowing the Heathcare issue to get completely distorted and out of control by the minority..(WH: "We were taken by surprise") - unexcusable.

So, I'm willing to wait for Obama 2.0 (do I have any choice?) but if he doesn't begin to move in the "left" direction he's going to lose his base. The Rightwingers will take back the House or Senate or both NEXT YEAR. Game. Set. Match.

Like Jon Stewart said "The Democrats seem like the people who switch to Geico...and lose money."

When will it stop?

Total agreement here.

I'm actually hoping this SNL skit, after being mentioned on every talkshow this morning, might actually serves as a wake up call that they need a solid "win" right now... one that shows why they were given huge majorities in Congress to get done.

I pray a STRONG Public Option could be that first big victory.

Since you're praying so hard for a STRONG Public Option, perhaps you could do us all a big favor and explain to us why we should all be cheerleading for it?

Who will be eligible to join The Public Option?
How much will it cost?
What will be covered? What won't be covered?
Will Americans from any income level be allowed to have health insurance through The Public Option?
Will Americans be allowed to DUMP their for-profit insurance that doesn't serve them and is too expensive for The Public Option?

If you do not know the answers to these questions (and I have yet to find anyone who can clearly answer them), then why are you praying so hard for it to happen?

BTW...anyone out there in the blogosphere who can answer these questions, PLEASE...be my guest.

Abbybwood, R.N.

is a fraud. It will be rife with waste, graft and corruption by design so that the sheep that are the American people will sit up on command and proclaim

" The government doesn't work!!!"

Then we will scapegoat progressives, blacks, immigrants, unions and other handy pincushions and continue to blame all our problems on them.

Finally, we will accept the crumbs they throw at us as we pine for the "good old days" when they used to lube us up before fucking us out of our wealth.

Totally nailed it...

Designed so nice a tidy.. like stamps with sticky back.

It's satire. Comedy. Take it for what it is, entertainment.

I don't think it was being mean to Obama or anything...I just like my entertainment to be more entertaining.

Which is why I don't watch SNL and have not in a long long time.

the Obamanauts have been pretty much a joke...

Supporters have turned out to be exactly the same as Bush supporters repeating the same talking points ad nauseum.

I have been much more active in writting letters to Obama about what I am displeased about (and quite a few other dems are doing the same every day) because unlike Bush supporters we actually care about our country and not just the dip shit in charge.

The reason I guess I didn't write to Bush more is that I knew he couldn't read

Even meds don't seem to work.

worked out for you? Please watch the video. What difference would be made in all those points had it been a Rethuglican Prez? ;-)

The difference is that the Repugs wouldn't have don't only not done anything good but they (as usual) would have done everything bad and we would be in worse shape right now then we are. - Don't fool yourself into believing the Dems and repugs are they same. They may not be that different but the real differences are note worthy.

not to be snarky or anything but I would like to know what action you take to try and change you world? I know letter writing isn't the most pro-active thing I can do but what would you suggest, I'll be glad to meet you at a rally!

He's our resident troll. He seems to think that democratic ways of enacting change are a waste of time. Apparently we are all Obamabots or some such nonsense whether we try to hold Obama accountable or not. He basically comes here and tells us we're fools and can be smug about it because he apparently has never had to take a stand on anything. It is much more amusing to him to see that those who have taken a stand, fall.

Who would you two like to see as President? And why?

A REAL progressive like was advertised in the last election. You know...great speech...change...hope...politics not as usual, etc, etc

Please don't tell me you were fooled into believing Obama was anything but a corporate candidate when he was running for office?

He's been. None of this surprises me.
What does surprise me is the lack of insight some people have.
I mean, c'mon. WTF were they expecting? Some Knight on a white horse come to save the day? And if I stand in opposition to their remarks, I get labeled an Obamanut or some such bullshit name.

And btw CC, who would you have prefered to see in the Oval office? You dodged the question Last time.

See below

People in their homes?

naught...
Or, rather, gave more money to banks, so they could drive up the prices on commodities...

Foreclosure rates continue to climb as millions MORE "ARMs" reset between now and X-mas. the Obamanauts have LET the banksters block the 'cram-down' provisions and other necessary regulations.

There is nothing in the Obamanaut program about bringing back "Glass-Steagal"-like barriers between investment and common banks, so that clusterfuck will re-emerge eventually to destroy another generation of middle-class equity.

Unemployment is OFFICIALLY almost 10%; unofficially, it's over 20.

And we're gonna ship another 40 THOUSAND troops to Afghanistan.

Good TIMES!!!

doesn't it?

How many ways can you spell S-U-C-K-E-R-S???

Obama is many things....but is NO PROGRESSIVE!!!!

is light years away from electing a progressive. You should get out more.

If you think your country has light years left???

I like DK too. But he doesn't stand a chance to win the Oval office. He doesn't have it to win.
Sanders on the other hand could possibly do it.

I do like both of them, but they would be doing the same thing.
Then people would be bitching about them too. Sad but true.

)O(

I never expected him to be anything other than what

I was expecting the Democratic Party, once in control of The White House, the House and the Senate to:

1.) Bring in strong leadership to the world in the form of major climate change legislation. But that would have hurt too many big contributors profit margins I guess...so, sorry. Back burner on that one.

2.) I was expecting health care reform that would actually HELP the American people get quality health care at an affordable price. Single Payer is absolutely the best way to deliver it. Medicare works. It would simply work for the entire country. Unfortunately it would deep-six the rotten for-profit health care corporations in the process. So instead we're being handed a despotic mandate where the insurance corporations will reap massive profits and many Americans will face PRISON if they can't afford fines that are levied against them. This isn't PROGRESSIVE! IT'S REGRESSIVE!!

I was expecting Obama and the Democrats to show leadership on ALL the issues the SNL producers/writers were intelligent enough to outline to their audience.

There are only a few places left to hear the truth in the country. Too bad Comcast is about to take over NBC. Bye-Bye SNL.

With the stroke of a pen Obama could have shown the world that a real CHANGE had actually happened in this country. Instead we got a bunch of back slapping and high fives when Obama took over the White House from Bush and was handed the baton.

And the race continues.....the agenda is unchanged and I venture to guess that the next person in The White House will take the baton and the same game will continue. Republicans or Democrats. Doesn't really make a whole lot of difference when push comes to shove.

Time for a third way.

These people in the Oval office are the same as Boosh or McCain?

"I was expecting the Democratic Party, once in control of The White House, the House and the Senate to:"

Not be the Neocons. I've lived next door to the USA too long to expect major changes because of a new president.

I keep seeing you taking shots at either this country or this Prez.
Yet I've never seen you come up with 1 solution.
How would you have fixed the economy? And give me a detailed plan. Not some off the cuff snark.
How would you deal with Iran, Iraq, Israel, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Mexico, All of Europe, All of South America, Cuba, Africa, Healthcare in this country, the Economy,....this is just for starters.
I expect a detailed response from you. Because that's what he has to do. You should get started.

Obama's first major decisions: Fire Howard Dean, and bring in the asshole Rahm "repuke-lite" Emmanuel to run the show. It's been all downhill since then with the exception of Supreme Court nominee (which is major).

But I was really expecting a whole lot more. He sold out to the DLC Clinton power wing, the same morons the American people rejected. Not a smart move.

Howard Dean was the Chairman of the Democratic Party. From Sam Stein at HuffPo on 11/8/08:

Dean, who has been serving in the post since 2005, has said in the past that he would serve only one term, though his successful work with the Obama campaign had led some Democrats to wonder whether he would stay on into the next administration. This won't be the case, officials at the DNC confirm. He will serve as chair until his term ends in January. The party will settle on a new head when it hosts a meeting during the week of Obama's inauguration.

[emphasis added]

Dean was replaced by Tim Kaine, Governor of Virginia, by a vote by the Democratic National Committee (Democratic Party Charter & Bylaws here).

Emanuel, of course, is the President's Chief of Staff, not the Chairman of the DNC.

to be in his cabinet and choosing Rahm instead. Rahm was tired of getting his ass handed to him, so there was no way he was going to let Dean into the inner circle.

is snark.

and you guys have a conservative presidency in Canada, in case you were too busy with other people's business to notice that small tidbit.

Can you just STFU already and take care of your country's business first before mustering the gall to tell us what to do?

Funny, it is "jingoistic" when we do it, but you as a canadian are simply "concerned." Ain't that a b*tch?

...Do I really need to explain?

A proud Nader voter for two decades...

I agree with pretty much everything Nader stands for, fights for, and fights against. Too bad he only shows up every 4 years to take a few points in the election. Yes, I know, Ralph does a lot of stuff and he'll be the first to complain (and really, a bunch of his finger pointing this time around REALLY bugged the hell out of me) that he's ignored by the Corporate Media. Well, the Corporate Media certainly wasn't on the President's side and he did win. So, if Ralph would actually build a movement instead of just showing up every four years during the late summer, maybe something more would happen. Or how about getting elected to a State office or to Congress; Alan Grayson did and look at the ruckus he's raised the last week. He's got Dems sending him money like crazy and talking about him. Ralph should aim a little lower than just jumping into the Presidency - but then, does he really want to be President? I can't honestly see him actually working with others to get stuff done, can you? Other foreign leaders? Or does he just yell and wave his arms around every four years? I don't honestly know.

correct. that's fact not fiction. Just watch the video again people. IT'S ALL FACTS!!

It's also a message. The truth. It hurts. Get off your ass.

Isn't that what it all boils down to tho.
Seriously. It doesn't make me happy either.

Best part, "I could make all the cars in America run on Marijuania, but do I, Nope."

SNL needs a better Obama....

Not the best Obama impersonation but dead on his "accomplishments". Too sad to laugh at. Another disappointing Democrat. I didn't see that one coming.

The problem really is that even in our Democrats we keep electing right-leaning people. We need a real liberal in the White House and you would see some real action.

This idiots who call Obama a socialist don't have a clue what a socialist is or they would know Obama is not even close. Let's get Sanders or Kucinich in the White House and we will see some change we CAN believe in.

Corporate America does not support Kucinich or Sanders. They like them some sock puppets.

I have to agree with you there.

And also apologize, I wasn't trying to follow you around this blog, it just happened that what you care about and what I care about sound very similar (not sure if I'm right or wrong but from what I have read of yours it sounds that way)

I just refuse to give up hope yet. After 8 years of do-overs I'm willing to give this guy a little time, but if he can't get anything done in the coming years I will not be voting for him again.

We need to dismantle corporate America so we can get some real representatives of the people.

Corporate America does not support Kucinich.

Neither did the voters. I didn't vote for Obama in the primaries but it was suicide not to vote for him in the general.

SNL hasn't been funny in over a decade.

Why waste time considering the seriousness - Oh because THAT's funny!

lol

SNL was able to give this guy a job spoofing Obama. One thing this guy should be happyy about becaause he certainly isn't funny. The stimulas worked for him.

it's not just SNL that's spoofing Obama and the spineless Dem SuperMajority. Jon Stewart and Bill Maher ripped them last week as well.
Being in Cali., I'm used to it. But I know I'm getting really sick of pouring my time, energy and money into getting these Dems elected and seeing no results.

The spineless dems - I take issue with the mindless dems.

You know who you are . . .

Bush was at least the "Decider" albeit, everything he touched turned out to be a total fucking disaster for us and a windfall for his Cronies but, he made decisions and the Cabal carried them out post haste. If the Democraps said a peep he kicked them square in the pussy.

Each morning Obama takes 45 minutes to decide what socks to put on. When the Republicans clamor for argyle Obama dithers for weeks on end then, gives a speech or pops up on Letterman.

Obama reminds me of the type of guy at work who spends eight hours bullshitting around at the coffee pot, hiding in the bathroom, fucking off at his desk and then tells everyone how hard he worked while walking out to the parking lot to go home.

ROFLMAO!!!

Thank god I wasn't drinking coffee right now, or I would have been cleaning it off my computer screen.

That is by far the most succinct description of Obama and the democrats I have ever heard.

The republicans might be pathological lying sacks-of-shit with no redeeming qualities what-so-ever; but when they set their little minds to something - no matter how stupid or catastrophic it turns out, they are completely fixated (like a houndog following the scent of a turd), and will not stop or slow down until mission accomplished.

very very true

I have noticed his socks are very nice. Well chosen. A lot of thought is put into... ;)

Funny post.

That's actually funnier than the SNL parody. I love the part about Obama taking 45 minutes to put socks on.

Armisen's impression of him is awful, however. The writing was weak, too, except for the 2016 Olympics T-shirt. That was funny.

Someone said down thread that Maher and Stewart did a far better job eviscerating Obama and the Dems, and they're right.

Quote:

"Each morning Obama takes 45 minutes to decide what socks to put on."

Now this is funny!!!! Good one.

This guy is NOT FUNNY! My lord, how long do we have to endure this horrific impression of Obama? They can't come up with someone better? It's to the point where he's not even trying to sound like him anymore.

It was a pretty pathetic performance, and not kind. Snl is like bad pizza, watching it is better than having nothing at all.

And, typically, his Obama impression is spot-on. Not so much in this sketch....But I think the writing, in this case, was fairly insightful, and that's a bit more important than the fact that Armisen loosened up his impression this time.

snl

They ought to replace SNL with reruns of Bass Masters.

It's just as funny

replying to yourself?

Obama has a majority in the House and Senate yet NOTHING has passed. I hate Democrats. Why don't they support the public option???

was written by the health insurance lobby.

Actually they don't support it, because the republicans told them not to, but the public option WAS written by the health insurance lobby.

a herd of feral cats? Presidents don't write legislation and they really don't have much power to enforce party discipline. There are a lot of good Democrats and quite a few worthless ones. I don't envy Obama his job trying to get things done in the teeth of a shit hurricane and an opposition that would doom the US to third world status if that would get them back into power. I take this skit for what it really is and that is a shot at the right wing blowhards who have blocked (so far) just about every initiative and cry that the US is degenerating into some sort of fascist/socialist state.

I've been following this website for a while now and I can't believe some of the criticisms of Obama that I read on these posts by fellow liberals. First off the SNL skit was lousy and untrue Why:

-Closing of Gitmo-From what I understand Obama promised to close Gitmo in a year and not on his first day. I've recently read stories saying it may take a couple of months longer but that is fine as long as it's getting closed

-Iraq troops- this is again more BS. Obama said all true would be out of Iraq by 2011 and he has already cut significantly the amount of troops over there

-Afghanistan- he has not really done anything with over there with the exception of targeted bombings against the Taliban and Al-Qaeda. This has been really the Bush policy at effect here. Now he has to make a decision as to whether to send troops over there or not

-Healtth Care- He is fighting the battle RIGHT NOW. I've read some on these threads about how he is not pro-active enough to. He is working behind the scenes with Harry Reid and the public option isn't dead yet. Besides how are you supposed to influence people like Baucus who have been bought out by the health care industry. There is no amount of pressure you can apply to them that will influence them.

You know for all the criticism about the teabaggers (all true), at least they are out there fighting for what they believe in though it is idiotic. Where are the liberals and why aren't they doing the same to influence their local Congressman. Where is their March on Washington to fight for UHC? Most of you people like to sit back and criticize the President for what seems to be inactivity when the truth is all of you are doing it. It is like all the liberals became thought the fight was over after the election and became lazy. Many of my fellow liberals should take a look in the mirror if we lose the health care battle. You let the tebaggers have more influence than they deserve in the media while only being a small fraction of this country.

Say what you want about Obama but he has kept most of his promises. The only one that he hasn't kept is his plan for the detainees. If this is the only thing to be mad about the President for, we have a good man in office.

)O(

I tend to agree however there's been a significant increase in troop deaths in Afghanistan, but rarely more than 10 people at a time on the Leher News Hours.

And my understanding there has been some large protests in Washington in favor of Health Care Insurance Reform, only to be ignored in the Media, or they focus on a handful of tea-baggers to make it their story, or show the whole crowd as one identified as tea-baggers.

As to your second point that is true but there is far more of us than teabaggers and the fact that many were not in the town hall meetings with an equal amount of fervor is disheartening. If every liberal was out there in force, as they should have been, the teabaggers influence would have minimized. It is sad to see that a majority of this country want health care and the public option yet are not willing to fight for it.

Good point. I was at my townhall and I kinda shut my rep up, he did not know how to respond to me.

It totally pisses me off that day after day we sit here at our keyboards bitching instead of going outside, visiting our Reps local offices, emailing, calling whatever. Typing shit on a thread at C&L ain't going to change anything. Ever.

Get off your asses.

Obama failed to lead. What is the public option? Why am I supposed to put my integrity on the line defending a policy that is not defined?

Had Obama said "we are going to lower the age of medicare to 55 and ending bans on preexisting conditions" both of which would buy the nation some time to prove the attack dogs wrong while still providing healthy cherry picked rubes for the insurance companies to fleece. ARMIES of americans would have had his back.

No this way the blame gets placed on us, his electorate, for not rabidly arguing for a Public Option that may or may not exist and may or may not reduce costs while boosting care.

He has already made comments about banning pre-existing conditions on multiple occassions. It is your job as a citizen to know what the public option is. The reason why the public option is in limbo in the first place is because many did not speak up. We are the ones that should be influencing what is in the bill. Not the other way around. Because we say nothing, special interests will have a greater role and the gov't bureaucracy gets in the way. Be the one that dictates and not the one who is dictated to. Unfortunately, it is a lesson to be learned from the teabaggers.

It is your job as a citizen to know what the public option is.

Ahhh I see. It's MY job to decipher the page upon page of legalese in my spare time while I try to keep my job and help my wife find work for the last 18 months. Silly me. I thought that when I elected someone who said we would have a STRONG public option to COMPETE directly with insurance companies, I should have read the fine print on the bottom of his teleprompter as well.

Because we say nothing, special interests will have a greater role and the gov't bureaucracy gets in the way.

Newsflash str1f3:

We do speak up. We spoke LOUDLY when we sent him and the supermajority to Congress. We are speaking up when we write our congressmen and the White House. We are speaking up when we protest in the street and no one from the press covers it.

for what it's worth. The insurance companies have 6 lobbyists for every member of congress. My neighbors and I are trying to stave off looming poverty. I don't have a lot of "free speech" AKA CASH lying around to fight them with. Pfft. Yeah it's our fault. Good one.

for future reference :D

"...page upon page of legalese..."

We all have those problems. It's up to you whether it's worth it or not. I'm not typing on a computer while sipping a martini at the Waldorf Astoria. We are all in a bad economy and many, including myself, are strugging.

I'm not saying it's your job to read through a thousand pages of an intentionally convoluted bill. Let the newspapers & websites (like this one) do that job for you. What I am saying though is that if you know what a public option is and why it's important, than it is that which you should be fighting for regardless of the bill that is introduced.

As for your comments about electing leadership, he also said on many occasions that he couldn't do it by himself and he needed help. I'm not here to kiss Obama's feet (I'm not the type) but you should already know that one person can't do it all himself not matter how genuine he may be.

You should also know the story of a Congress elected to do a certain job and not do it. Simply voting them (or not voting at all) out won't solve it as it has been tried many times before. What we can do is raise hell like the teabaggers and make our impressions felt.

While many of us are struggling, including teabaggers, they manage to find a way to make it to those town hall meetings. If you couldn't under any circumstances, that's fine. The problem is many can and don't. It is the same reason why Democrats are projected to lose seats in 2010 because liberals don't vote historically in the mid-term elections. Liberals have a tendency towards laziness.

.

If he were, the battle would involve Universal/National health or another form of single payer.

What's being fought over now is how private for profit health insurers can keep as huge a piece of the health care dollar.

)O(

He did kind of explain it in his speech when he said that the Health Care Industry is 1/6 of the economy, and it's best to use the existing structure than try to reinvent it.

But to me that means any such large structure, the smallest error can snowball, and he was in effect saying, if anything goes wrong, let it be the insurance provider's fault.

There's no reason to maintain a system that sucks one third of the healthcare dollar into their own pockets. And they fight to be an even LARGER share. Too big to fail? Hmmm where have I heard that before.

That money, billions of dollars could go to rebuilding manufacturing in this country. Infrastructure. It would be shifted. How do you think the health insurance robber barons got that big? By kneecapping others. by not delivering healthcare to people who paid for it. By denying coverage to people who may need medical care.

There is no excuse whatsoever to keep these thieving bloated giants afloat.

I can think of 10 good reasons to keep the insurance companies afloat...

1)...

wait.

Nope - sorry, can't think of 1.

)O(

I've been arguing that healthcare insurance is attempting to be the next industry too large to fail and requiring bail-outs for months now.

I even wrote a letter to the Dallas Morning News about it.

They didn't print it.

The problem is Obama's current role for public option is waaay too small. The average American's attitude is what's in it for me? So I would have something like single-payer for all, but they would say what about the illegal aliens, what about abortion?

So the existing structure is like their current Congressional representative, they're against the system, but keep choosing the devil they're know already.

I think that it will hopefully influence Obama. SNL has a history of affecting and influencing politicians in their behavior. Look at the debates with Obama vs. McCain, Hillary vs. Obama ("Are you comfortable?" ), the Sarah Palin sketches, and I remember Al Gore specifically analyzing the 2000 debate skits during his campaign for self-improvement

)O(

The problem is lorne michaels decided to stop hiring people with talent, because they might leave the show to try and start a movie career, so he hires what he considers "ensemble" actors. This usually means, "Okay, who's this years Garrett Morris, Chevy Chase and John Belushi?"

and she is only occasionally funny, like when she's not doing her usual moron act ("I'm a moron aunt," "I'm a moron checkout person," "I'm a one uppping moron," ad nauseam).

Looks like he was a little short sighted in not replace Fey and Poehler, right after they left, so there'd be women who weren't just starting out. And he never replaced Rudolph. And why no women of colour? There have been what-3 or 4 black female regulars in 35 years? I can only think of two, Maya Rudolph and Ellen Cleghorne. and no asian women that I recall. Very few black men and no asian men either.

)O(

He rehired victoria jackson?

)O(

Oh yeah, and their music always sucked. It was wildly inconsistent.

The only time I really liked their musical acts were during the Charles Rocket year.

So what did ever happened to the Whiners?

The Charles Rocket year was pretty bad, but some of the musical acts were awesome. Captain Beefheart appeared that year!

)O(

Belushi and the guys from Minor Threat (and, iirc, The Bad Brains) formed an impromptu mosh pit!

I think that was the year Prince appeared in topcoat, banana hammock and thigh high boots...maybe a scarf, too. All purple, of course.

I don't think he would be fond of he politics...I get the feeling he's a bit more centrist than she. Add to that, I'm surprised she could get out the door of her home and to the studio, much less read a script.

I don't think Kristen Wiig IS a moron, she just overplays one on teevee

)O(

Who is the biggest faker in republican punditry victoria jackson, Stephen Colbert, or ann colter?

He's the person, iirc, who gave Michaels the idea that he should take successful characters and ride them into the ground.

It's sad that so many of those awful Wiig characters are the best the writers come up with. But, quite honestly, they're funnier than almost anything Thompson or Forte do.

)O(

And the odd thing is Buck Henry is the one most credited with creating Get Smart, when actually that was Mel Brooks.

A one note samba has more variation than him. MAD tV was good in the first years, but they started riding the unfunny character train into the ground, starting with that shitty faux Korean character, and the big stupid kid and loud mom.

But MAD tV employed a lot of non whites, very hilarious people. I guess that's gonna happen when the exec is a black man.

"All we gotta do is:
Public health-care option?
Public financing elections?
Restoring the "independent" press?
Reducing/eliminating corpoRat lobbying/bribery influence?"

Like, all the very concerned/angry/anxious letters in the world would make a lick of difference to the sold-out crooks holding on to their perqs with every tooth and claw at their disposal.

The people who would have to lead the charge to make such changes are the very people who have the most to gain from NOT doing anything of the kind.

Nagahapun. Get used to it. We're fucked as a democratic people. It's over; the great American experiment with popular sovereignty is concluded, and the results are another win for the Null Hypothesis.

Oh, we'll still have those quaint exercises called 'elections.' You betcha. Gotta preserve at LEAST the forms ptrecious forms, or else the proles might notice. But they'll become ever more and more ceremonial in nature, as the actual choice of candidates is ever more deeply abstracted from the views of the electorate.

True, Obama hasn't invaded Iran. Yet.

Given the sheer number of self-confessed zionists in his administration, such as Joe Biden and former IDF soldier Rahm Emanuel it's only a matter of time.

he said so on a sunday morning talk show, I read.

Israel is preparing to attack....

.....is watching the Majority Party get their asses kicked day in and day out by the Minority Party. I've never seen anything like it.....the Republicans are far better 'politicians' that Democrats. They know how to cram things through when they have the power, and they know very well how to bring the process to a complete halt when they are not.

There were more than a few reasons I voted for President Obama. I didn't expect him to get everything done in 9 months. But what I don't hear any of the complainers talking about are his actions on two major issues of which Democrats were most concerned.

The Supreme Court. A life time appointment of more conservatives would have been disastrous, ie. Roe v Wade.

Stem cell research. The religiously influenced research ban was ended.

All I hear now are the right wing talking points about how President Obama hasn't done a thing.

THIS is why people voted for Nader in 2000...

Spineless, contemptible, Democratic date rapists....

)O(

Great, a president with no party in Congress....that'll really work...

Nobody claims anything would be better under a conservative regime. the bottom line is this:

SNL was correct! They fairly represented the fact that Obama has failed at many things that he claimed he would've achieved by now. Liberals better get used to being the target as conservatives have been so for the past eight years. Now it is your turn! Ha ha!

if Obama were a liberal. But he's not. So your case is an epic fail.

If you ever think of becoming a lawyer, don't waste your time or money. You are lousy at arguing, relying on facts not in evidence and using some ideal of punishing a large group of people for the actions of one, not even associated with that group. As vengence. You are also lousy at grasping the simple definition of 'liberal' or 'conservative.'
Try ditch digging. Little thought required; it would suit you down to the ground.

had epiphanies while digging ditches.

will ever come about is to elect a single orphan with no one close for the powers that be to threaten. It would take someone who couldn’t be bought or blackmailed into submission. Like that will ever happen, never mind!

happened to SNL? Murray, Chase, Spade, Murphy, Rock, Sandler, Belushi (John!)...where are youuuuuuuuuuuuuu......

It's what Obama gets for trying to be a camp counselor rallying everyone to sing songs together around the camp fire. Sure, the main problems remain FOX, a gullible and disinterested public who watch FOX, and a Congress of, by and for the corporations.

But Obama wanted to "work" with that. What we need is someone who will drive the moneychangers out of the temple and give us a vision.

Obama isn't it. If he really tried to run out the money-changers, he'd probably be killed by the establishment, just like Jesus was.

I'm a Democrat but I think SNL was right on the money, although it's kind of unfair given that he hasn't been in office a full year yet.

There is that inconvenience called death that is hanging about right now.
Because we all know (they) and we have a vaguely good idea who they are, wish him dead. That's right. I said they wish him dead. How many of us think he'll live long enough to fulfill his oath of office?

I'm not mixing words here. We know they want him dead.
What then?

What will all these so called Dems say when they kill him?
I'm appalled at what I've just written. But it's on everyone mind.
We all know it's in the back of our minds. We all hope it's just a passing thought with no real grip on reality. But the threat is real.
And we all know it.
What will these so called Dems say then?
I don't give a shit what the GOPers will say.
I want to know what these so called Dems will say.
