Scott Walker Opponents Collect Over 300,000 Signatures in First 12 Days of Recall Drive
Ed Schultz spoke to Wisconsin Democratic Party State Chairman Mike Tate about their success in collecting over 300,000 signatures already in the effort to recall Governor Scott Walker.
Scott Walker Opponents Collect More Than 300,000 Signatures In 12 Days For Recall Election:
Activists pushing to recall Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) announced on Monday evening that they have collected more than 300,000 signatures for the effort in just 12 days.
To trigger a recall election, Walker's opponents -- coordinated by the group United Wisconsin -- need to collect 540,208 valid signatures by Jan. 17, which is 60 days after the campaign launched. Organizers said they are aiming for 600,000 to 700,000 signatures.
"Scott Walker has taken to the airwaves, supported by millions in corporate cash, to defend his record of job loss and full-scale assault on Wisconsin's institutions and values," United Wisconsin Executive Director Meagan Mahaffey said in a statement. "But all over Wisconsin, the people are seeing through Walker's deceptions and are moving to take our state back."
In the first 96 hours of the recall effort, United Wisconsin and its supporters collected more than 105,000 signatures from all 72 counties in the state.
An election could occur as early as March 27, although it will likely be later if Republicans challenge the petition signatures or file lawsuits.
The Walker recall is the next step in a campaign to oust state Republicans who pushed forward controversial budget legislation stripping collective bargaining rights from state employees. In August, Democrats recalled two Republican state senators from office, but they fell short of the three needed to take control of the chamber.
There have been only two successful recall elections in history, one against California Gov. Gray Davis in 2003 and one against North Dakota Gov. Lynn Frazier in 1921.
No Democrat has stepped forward yet to announce a challenge to Walker in a potential recall race. Wisconsin Democratic Party Chairman Mike Tate said the party won't put a candidate forward until early 2012 in order to keep the fight focused as a referendum on Walker.
Here's more from Brad Friedman from last week with what some of those working to get Walker recalled have been putting up with -- Supporters of WI's 'Recall Walker' Effort Reportedly Receiving Death Threats.

This is very encouraging. I just wonder who will run against Walker. If we don't have a stong candidate with statewide appeal, it will be all for nothing.
There are also recall efforts directed against some Republican State Senators (including mine) who were not eligible for recall last summer. I think we need to increase our attention on those, as the current party balance in the State Senate is 17-16.
Who is ready to step to the plate to replace walker and the lt gov...or is that another election?
Hurray for the Wisconsin voters.....Ist Ohio and now Wisconsin again!
Write this one down, kiddies.
I'm not 100% certain about this, but when the signature count reaches 500,000...Walker resigns.
Also, has consideration been given to what Wisconsins are going to do about the crazy lieutenant Governor.
Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.
...but I think it is more likely he will spend millions of taxpayer dollars fighting this every step of the way. However, when he does lose, the harpy will quit.
There is a separate recall petition for the Lt. Governor. Most people who sign for Walker will sign for Kleefisch at the same time.
With all the Koch Bros. money, I doubt that Walker will resign.
With all the Koch Bros. money, I doubt that Walker will resign.
That's why I think he WILL resign. You don't get rich by not knowing when to cut bait.
They'll jettison his ass when they realize the impeachment is a fait accompli. That's why I see the 500,000 as the strike point.
Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.
Depending on the timing, it would create a unique scenario. Suppose he does resign, then Kleefisch becomes Governor. The recall effort would have to start all over.
Exactly. You didn't think they would let the great unwashed just run them over, did you.
Vote GOP and move forward to the 18th Century.
Though I firmly believe that Scott Walker is too stubborn and ignorant to resign...even if the Koch-heads threw a load of cash at him. Watch his public speeches on youtube...the guy's a train wreck. He's not a bright man but he thinks he is. I'm talking George W. Bush dumb but without the charisma.

Walker is a mouth-breather. Really he is.

and Walker flees to a Caribbean tax haven in disgrace.
Well, probably not, but a really strong, early message for him to start packing (not guns, mind you, but in boxes).
It would be awesome if they could get 1.2 million signatures, which is what this asshole got in votes when he was elected.
If they do recall his nazi ass, then Ohio should get a recall referendum on their ballot. Let that steaming pile of nazi shit Kasich crap his pants too.
If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.
Hallelujah! There is a God!!!

Can't wait to throw that one back in their faces...
Recalls are part of Wisconsin democracy - ensconced in law.
I wonder what they will try to pull since they won't have legal methods...

Too bad they can't put the sob in a stockade and have the town drunks piss on his head.
Look folks...name call and snipe all you want to if it makes you feel good, however it is very diffucult to look intelligent doing so. In fact, it's hard to ignore the results the Gov. has posted since the new legislation was passed. Let's take a look:
1. unemployment has dropped from 7% to 6.8% and its still dropping based on new filings(way better than national average)
2. major corporations have made hiring commitments and capital expenditure plans to grow(ie-Generac)
3. the budget is balanced and the deficit is being wiped out. Go to Badgerstat.org and educate yourself
4. cost of living standard here v.s. national = we are in a great position
I could keep going but you get the point. Now perhaps he could have taken a softer approach to making these strides....but to be honest with you there is so much partisanship among people that sometimes the only way to make real change is thru sweeping moves. It's also impossible to criticise the GOP and their corporate financial support when the DEM's do exactly the same thing with their financial support and influence buying via Union $, liberal media $ like George Soros, and the tens of millions $ donated via the Hollywood left.
Really now.....our methods are really not any different from one another. At the end of the day it's whoever wins at the ballot box who gets to decide for a while. And if you don't like the results, in the next voting cycle you vote for someone else. It's really that simple.
