Rick Sanchez rips Bill O'Reilly for lying about CNN's coverage of the shooting death at a Little Rock, AK recruiting center.

From Rick Sanchez's blog, apparently Bill O'Reilly has issued a retraction, if you'd call it that.

Producer’s note: Bill O’Reilly did offer up what he described as a “rare correction” tonight (June 5th).

“I was wrong,” Mr O’Reilly said. “My apologies to CNN. I was talking about primetime, but I did not say that. As they say in third grade, ‘my bad’.”

Hmmmm....

Bill O'Reilly: So all day long it wasn't news to cover an army recruiter gunned down in Arkansas.

Bill-O can't even tell the truth with his supposed retraction. Maybe Rick will hit him up again Monday for his half assed apology.

When is he going to apologize to our WWII veterans for saying they massacred German troops at Malmady? Until he does I wouldn't p!ss on him to put out a fire.

pinhead?

)O(

billo only raised the issue of the recruiter shooting to off-set the Tiller murder, does that mean he didn't really refer to the Tiller murder, because to him it's a non-story?

And the recruiter murderer is being investigated as a Muslim terrorist, but at the time of billo's comments the murderer of Tiller wasn't being treated like a Christian terrorist.

And even when he gets tried, more likely he'll be tried as a fanatical anti-abortion, not a terrorist.

)O(

Oh that raises another intersting question: why did the killer of the recruiter kill him, because he's a Muslim boogy-man terrorist, or because of liberals anti-Iraq war stance?

Hey Ysby,

You spelled libruls wrong.

O'Reilly is going to have a difficult time pinning the recruiter murder on MSNBC while simultaneously ridiculing the far-right whackos for saying he's partially responsible for Tiller's murder.

Well, he would have a difficult time if he wasn't well-practiced in cognitive dissonance.

Maybe he'll send his loofah-boy Jesse out to ambush Rachel Maddow.

... he would. I think Rachel would know how to handle him

Jesse would come away with many new orifices through which to defecate.

How come I get the feeling I'm watching some lame version of an "ultimate fighting" charade?

Instead of the boogeyman fairness doctrine, the FCC ought to impose a regulation that TV and radio shows that make factual errors must make on-air corrections at the earliest available opportunity. Bill, Glenn, Sean and Rush would look awfully silly spending half their shows announcing corrections.

... escalating fines

Maybe that could be the Feingold-Snowe bill.

It's a great idea.

They'll be making the corrections at 3am. How about, during the same hour(s) that they made the mistake. That way they're correcting themselves to the same people they made the mistake with in the first place. If they made the mistake during the 6pm, 7pm, 8pm and 9pm hour, they need to correct it during those same hours as well, as well as their earliest opportunity.

They'd have to do it on the same show, in the same time slot. No having a separate half-hour show at 3am for the corrections. Basically the same doctrine that newspapers follow (most of the time) -- a place of equal prominence in which the original mistake was made.

Don'tcha know being a lying, deceiving hate-monger is as American as apple-pie?

What would this country be if we weren't all free to lie endlessly about any and everything we talked about?

God save this Great, Lying, Dishonest nation!!!

In addition to saying this was a "rare" mistake, and in addition to saying that he meant to say "during primetime," Orally called Rick Sanchez "snide" and "surly" in his so-called "retraction."

That guy just cannot bring himself to say he made a mistake and properly say he is sorry. Typical conservative.....notice how they are all disgusted with Obama "apologizing" whenever he goes anywhere, apologizing for what Bush did? They just can't say "I'm sorry." They think it's weak.

Even if O'Reilly gets exposed as the craven liar that he so truly is, the real issue is that the topic of his complicity in, and instigation of, the assassination of Dr. Tiller gets covered up and pushed aside. Instead, we get to watch a pissing match between Fox and CNN, everybody gets their delicate sensibilities flustered, and nobody has their eyes on the real issue anymore: That Bill O'Reilly is an immoral, cowardly, dishonest hate-monger.

Whatever it takes to keep people from paying attention to what's really going on. Whatever it takes.

You just got P3wnd.

...again

Also shoving O'Reilly's words back in his face today is the WaPo's Colbert I. King. His column takes on the fact that O'Reilly and Manatee are distorting facts in order to incite violence, as with the recent shooting in church of the doctor in Kansas.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/...

More people need to confront these hate-mongers (or "ignorance-mongers," if you prefer) about their responsibility for whipping their unstable followers into a lather.

they said on FOX that got Tiller shot in 1993 and caused Roemer to load up his car with bomb parts in 1996.

You may have a long wait.

You are probably right.

The worst part for CNN is that they actually had to call Fox and talk to them. They had to have a conversation with them. How horrible that must have been. When you have to talk to people like Fox Lies you cannot simply wash your hand afterwords.

This blog post and the glorification of "look someone successfully called Bill O'Reilly out!" shows the shortcoming of the liberal line of crooks and liars.

In the report, Sanchez defends himself against O'Reilly by pointing out: "Look, we spent time pointing out he was a Muslim convert!" (with quite a snide way) "We looked into whether it was terrorism from the Middle East or Africa!" etc etc.

I'm all about showing how the right wing is becoming increasingly absurd and hypocritical, but to support people like Sanchez uncritically because he also opposes folks like O'Reilly is quite problematic for reasons that should be obvious to a website that takes a stance against racism and examines media and its role as much as this website does.

Hi Kurt, nice to meet you. Sorry, I cannot agree with you. I don't know how much of O'Reilly you watch but in my opinion there is NO comparison between O'Reilly and Sanchez. O'Reilly lies. All the time. Most people that watch him do not have your level of intelligence, meaning they believe every work uttered by him. Someone above brought up Malmedy mistake. He never corrected it so his blind followers believe what he said as fact.

I do not know much about Sanchez, or catch his show very often, but I can assure you if you are going to compare the two, O'Reilly would look like the lying sack that he is.

Anyway, thanks for participating and not sounding like a right wing idiot. We need grown up debate in this country.

word not work.

marcellajoy, I wasn't trying to say that Sanchez is as bad as or comparable to O'Reilly, but that's irrelevant.

My point is simply: of course Fox News lies and is terrible, but don't turn around an let the next logical step be "therefore CNN/MSNBC are good!" because, as you can see from this clip, they also engage in things like "oh and he was a Muslim convert and possible terrorist!" kind of sensationalism that ALL corporate media engages in.

All I've seen is this clip posted by C&L and not any of the original broadcasts, so I'm not sure of the context.

But I also found Sanchez' thing about the guy converting to Muslim kind of messed up.

It sounded a lot like he was saying, "See? We even demonized him for converting and you're still not happy, Bill?"

That might not have been his intent but that's how it came off to me.

That's probably true Cafeen dude. Sad that the (regular) media has to resort to trying to sound as nutty as FOX.

I had a similar reaction to what Sanchez said about the Muslim angle. I was happy with his calling out of O'Reilly until that point. I didn't care for his exaggerated pronunciation of the guy's Muslim name, or the way he said "Muslim convert" as if that alone was an accusation of something.

Bro Sanchez. Windmills quake in trepidation of another round.

So, basically, CNN overreacted about the shooter being Muslim just like Faux did--maybe more so. Nice to know. I certainly feel better now.

Exactly, the "mainstream media" itself is problematic and while sometimes people like Maddow and Olberman may make good points and expose the right for what it is, we can't turn around and support other networks thinking that they're "the good ones"

I thought it was important for Sanchez to say that "when we get it wrong we admit it"--or some such language. That's the right idea, anyway.

Typically CNN doesn't admit it. And more often they don't even get (or care) that they've sensationalized the facts--as was done in this case because the shooter (alleged shooter, I guess, until he's convicted) is Muslim. That's the bigger problem.

Faux is by several orders of magnitude worse than any other infotainment source available, but what so-called news networks don't seem to get is that the news isn't about what they make of it. If they say it harder or more snarkily or lift their eyebrows with extra irony, that extra emphasis doesn't change the facts. The anchors and the network are not the news. The news is the news. We're smart enough to figure it out for ourselves and we don't need to be told how to interpret.

But then, we already know that.

thought CNN or MSNBC were "good" ones. I do however, think FOX is the worst of the lot. I read a comment here the other day that said virtually ALL of the major media outlets in this country are owned by six corporations.

Shouldn't surprise anybody then that "news"... formerly a means of gathering facts and information conducive to forming a rational opinion is now totally agenda driven, the agendas being shaped by those six huge corporations.

I was under the impression that it was only four corporations, but either way it's hard to argue that a handful of for profit corporations can truly fulfill the role that Media should play.

try to climb out of the hole that they have dug for themselves? When will Wolffie and Dobbs join in?

King figures out where to touch the screen so Wolffies hologram can be lifted to the top. Lou will not try to climb until he is assured it is only the side of a hole he must climb and not a fence.

complete and total pwnage.

make themselves out to be the Nationalist news channel. For all the wacky flag waving nationalistic people to watch and get their walking talking orders from.

gets it right. Well most of the time. Well almost all of the time. Okay, all the time.

I wanna kiss Bill Moyer. Love him.

I love C&L, but have criticized it a few times feeling that sometimes story headlines that promise a smack-down end up as not a big deal.

This was a can of whoop-ass.

Thanks.

ripping Loofah Boy a new asshole, but, Sanchez, don't flatter yourself. Your network has done its fair share of editorializing as well. On the other hand, as long as you keep after Fallafel Bill, I'll be watching.Great entertainment!

"As they say in third grade..."?

Way to diminish your egregious slur on a competitor network from your perch IN primetime, Bill-O.

As they say in Senior College, F*ck You.

Rick Sanchez DID NOT "rip into" Bill O'Reilly, he wasn't even confrontational. He was very softball and weak in his statements. I would like to see Rich Sanchez (and others on CNN) show some balls and feed O'Reilly back a big dose of his own medicine. O'Reilly is very pushy, abrasive and in-your-face with his challenges, attacks and tirades. CNN's people like Sanchez, Anderson Cooper, Larry King etc are the opposite, very low key and mostly boring. I guess that's why O'Reilly and Fox's ratings are so high and CNN's ratings are so low.

No. They should not lower themselves to that level. The reason FOX has high ratings, IMHO is because their target audience is so concentrated. Most people can watch other news outlets, and there are many, but the FOX audience only watches one channel that tells them what they want to hear.

Lawrence O'Donnell take on O'Reilly. I am also tired of waiting to see heads explode on Fox. I demand that at least one do so during prime time this coming week.

Keith O and Bill O. Pay per view. Oh snap!

Fox never does any reporting!
Only knee jerk reactions.
republicanism is a mental illness, don't you think so?

o'reilly gets an extra little dig in with the 'as they say in 3rd grade "my bad"' implying that CNN was immature for demanding an apology....

not that ive ever heard a 3rd grader say 'my bad' but whatever...actually, isnt that a term that black people used before us honkeys ripped it off?

)O(

I prefer cracker.

snack food name by those with a political agenda.

the only fact that billo knows and can prove is

he can spread his fingers wide on his right hand and
insert it easily dry up his humongous asshole.
maybe if he would trim his nails he would not have
that eternal grimace on his face.

Bill O'Reilly is and has always been a Liar! End of story.

It's about standing up to bullies like O'Reilly and putting him in his place. There is the real truth and there is Bill O'Reilly's version of the truth, which is totally progagandized and twisted and distorted to the point of being outright lies. O'Reilly's guests kiss ass so they can continue to be on his program with responses like "You're absolutely right Bill", "It's just as you say Bill", and he responds with "That's why our ratings are so high and theirs are so low". It's disgusting how he is allowed to control his guests and commentators on other programs. The only one who challenges him is Keith Olbermann and Keith has made a joke of it so much with his impersonations, cartoon voices and making light of serious situations that Keith no longer counts as a serious counter to Bill O'Reilly's rubbish.

keeps impressing me. He's coming into his own, and it's about time.

He was with his falafel all day.

I obviously have heard about Bill's love of loofah come from, but did I miss something? Since when did Bill like falafel?

The never surly (and never deceitful) Bill O calls Sanchez surly for pointing out his lies thus forcing the never surly Bill O to retract said lies. http://mediamatters.org/mmtv/200906050034

The never surly Bill O "Fuck it we'll do it live" Remix http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dq0oUdjqTns

So, Billo's bullshit only matters to CNN when Billo comes after CNN? What about all the other garbage he spews? There's only one way that Sanchez' "Billo Rebuke" will matter. When other news organization beyond MSNBC, publicly tell and retell America what true fascism is. Corporations are making a fortune on people like Billo.
