So, the story isn't news--go read the diary for the full account--but I'll recap it:
an incident broke out at a town hall at Simpson University in Redding [Northern California] on Tuesday when Herger signaled encouragement to a 67-year-old town hall attendee, Bert Stead, who called himself a "proud right-wing terrorist."
"Amen, God bless you," Herger reportedly replied to the comment. "There is a great American."

Here's what the people should be protesting. The FED's appeal of a court decision requiring them to disclose the names of banks that received TARP funds, how much and what toxic assets they dumped on the tax payer balance sheet.
They say to do so would cause irreperable harm to the system and take away the government's ability to fight future competition.
They also mentioned it hurt competition amongst banks.
If you were a too big to fail institution that needed to get smaller, wouldn't hurting you competitively make sense?

Do any of you know Redding, CA? It is one of those parts of the state where the Arizona desert is mild in the summer by comparison. It's 110 or more every day in the summer and the humidity is higher than they ever get in Arizona when it is raining. People feed poison to animals they are slaughtering for food for people willing to eat what they know is poison, "down south" or over in the "gay bay". They know what life is about in Redding. They don't know about the outside world so much. They aren't that interested. They suck Lake Shasta dry and then beg Arnie for more water to waste. It is a city that no one would believe exists in California, unless you've been there. He says, of his "Mayflower" ancestors: "The first winter was rough, but they didn't have their hands out looking for someone to support 'em." That assertion grossly under-estimates the cruelty of the conditions, as roughly 45-49 out of the 99 Mayflower passengers died the first winter (1620-21). That hardly qualifies as "rough".
The assertion is also false. The Mayflower colonists did, literally, go abegging with hands out for food -- and rightfully so! Letters describe the colonists as "sick and weak", "with very small means", while the "Indians" are "peaceable and friendly". As the colonists headed into the winter, their prospects were poor, with starvation an imminent threat.
According to Edward Winslow's account, the colonists looked to English ships for food. Winslow, himself, was dispatched up the coast to buy, borrow or beg for whatever food he and his men could from the English ships.
It is a poor service to the memory of the Mayflower colonists for this gentleman to so cavalierly minimize their plight, to misrepresent their reality. Remarkably, or perhaps not remarkably, his remarks are met by applause. They would not, had his audience only stopped to think.

Well, let's be honest. For the most part, we don't really know who, specifically, killed who. It is perfectly possible that Bert's ancestors (assuming he isn't making this up, or is mistaken) were decent honorable folk. That said, the subsequent history of colonist-native relations in New England in the 17th century is not pretty. There was plenty of savagery to go around -- most (though not all) of it perpetrated by the overseas Europeans.
