Real Time's New Rules for Sept. 11, 2009. Bill wants everyone to get off the couch and get out there and protest. I hate to break this to him, but there is a movement out there by the left doing the same thing as the tea baggers. The media has just decided not to cover it and they don't have Fox's Griff Jenkins going along for the ride and Fox Noise promoting it night after night.

I do agree that more people taking to the streets would help. Maybe we can get Bill to agree to cover it so there's not a complete media blackout since he thinks it's so important. Perhaps he can have one of his "Real Time Real Reporters" ride along with the Reform Now bus.

(Warning... video not safe for work.)

Maher: The Democrats just never learn. Americans don’t really care which side of an issue you’re on as long as you don’t act like p#&$ies. When Van Jones called the Republicans assholes, he was actually paying them a compliment. He was. He was talking about how they can get things done even when they’re the minority as opposed to the Democrats who can’t seem to get anything done even when they control both houses of Congress, the Presidency and Bruce Springsteen.

You know I love Obama’s civility, his desire to work with his enemies… he’s positively Christ-like. In college he was probably the guy at the dorm parties who made sure the stoners shared their pot with the jocks.

But we don’t need that guy now. We need an asshole. Mr. President, there are some people who are never going to like you. That’s why they voted for the old guy and Carrie’s mom.

You’re not going to win them over. Stand up for the 70% of Americans who aren’t crazy.

And speaking of that 70%, when are we going to actually show up in all this? You know tomorrow Glenn Beck’s army of zombie retirees are descending on Washington. It’s the million moron march. Although they won’t get a million of them of course because many will be confused and drive to Washington State.

But they will make news because people who take to the streets always do. They’re at town hall meetings screaming at the Congressmen. We’re on the couch screaming at the T.V. You know especially in this age of Twitters and blogs and Snuggies, it’s a statement just to leave the house.

But leave the house we must because this is our last best shot for a long time to get the sort of serious health care reform that would make the United States the envy of several African nations.

So true. Carrie's mom? LOL!

Taking to the streets will NOT get you news coverage if your cause is anything remotely to the left of the political spectrum, but if you do get coverage, your numbers will be grossly underestimated.

Maher is one to talk. I quit watching his egofest of a show when I realized that he always stops the liberal and progressive guests whenever they get close to actually busting any of the paid liars from the Right.

When he was confronted about it, he excused himself from responsibility because, it's a "comedy" show.

In other words, he wants it both ways.

Find your own balls, Bill.

Didn't this guy dated Ms. Coulter at some point?

[Comment Deleted By Administration For Violation Of Terms Of Service]

Hmmmm.....
The topic is "Grow a Set".
The comment above is about "Ann Coulter".
It questions whether she "took them" -- Bill's "set".

How is it against the "terms of service" to connect the dots with a term that describes a woman who has a "set"?

[We have transgendered readers at the site. We don't think it right- we find it abusive, in fact- to see their lives used as the punchline of a joke, and we don't feel obliged to provide the bandwidth so that others can make those jokes. You're pretty new to the site, so we can understand how you wouldn't be aware of this. That's cool. Please make a mental note of it so we can avoid this sort of thing in the future. Thanks. Got it. No mention of transvestitism in any humourous manner because you have transgendered readers.

Luckily, you must not have any Republican readers since the following moderated comments in this thread appear to have passed the censorship:
"STFU Mr. Redneck asshole"
"[re: teabaggers] they are profoundly full of shit"

;) [wink emoticom - denotes "I'm just kidding"]

)O(

Well the obscenity was abbreviated, and the a.h. wasn't but is merely vulgar,

Teabaggers being full of s**t is merely a description of the kinds of views they hold, and most here think they are being manipulated hence the term astroturf.

One can choose to be or not to be a redneck a.h., or actually get an education on the issues, it's not the same as an orientation you're ostensibly born with.

Oh, and incidentally, you blurred the distinction between transvestites (people who don the clothing of the other sex) and those who actually change their sex.

ysbaddaden sez: "...the obscenity was abbreviated".
Can we add "tranny" to George Carlin's list of words that offend the thin-skinned?
Tranny = obscenity.
Transgendered = clinical, therefore OK, but only when used in a positive manner.

For example: "I think that Ann Coulter looks like a transvestite, but it is possible that she/he is really a wonderful transgendered person who took Bill Maher's testicles for a test drive."

Oh, by the way, I've been told that some Rednecks are born assholes.
;)

we're worried about the TG crowd?? This is whats wrong with the left.

We're too worried about peoples feelings.

This is the only area I agree with Andrew "rawmsclgltes" Sullivan. TG folks should be separate from gay movement.

I'm a fag..... no confusion on gender here.

And its about time some of us grew a backbone.

You're starting to disappoint me C&L.....there's a bigger monster that demands all of our collective attention.

Please stop being a nanny to people who should be strong enough to fight for themselves.

of Maher's guests that could stomp all up and down an issue. Get over yourself.

So true. The media controls the message being delivered to the populace. Unfortunately for the Left, the Right took over the media a long time ago. There were many protests leading up to the War in Iraq. None covered by the media. That is just one example.

you need a corporate sponsor to get coverage

Or it will be for being "irrational" "unserious" "angry" "Leftists".
It's a conundrum.

1500- 2000 people showed up at the health care reform rally I attended in San Francisco on Sep. 2 in conjunction with similar protests across the country. Not one word mentioned in any of the local or national media.

wow

That blows.Big time.

The fact that we aren't covered (or are covered negatively) when we hold protests is a problem that needs to be addressed. But it shouldn't keep us from making the effort.

I'm waiting to see how many people actually turn out for Beck's play date on Saturday - and how many for the reform rallies on Sunday. This should be interesting. And it will be interesting to compare the coverage. Considering the fact that we don't have a national network sponsoring our events, if we draw comparable crowds it should actually be regarded as a more significant success.

Also, it was great to see Maher stand up to the bitch circus that lambasted Van Jones. I expect that Beck et al will soon regret that they ever freed Van from his government job shackles.

A clown on television got Jones fired. The quitter on twitter is spouting lie after lie after lie about the healthcare bill. Why is Obama listening to the idiots and not the voters?

controllers and handlers: Wall St. and their friends in the DLC. If you're looking for help from Obama, don't expect much.

Cantor and Wilson need to get slapped for disrespecting the President. Just saying.

that's democracy.
Just be "disrespectful" for justified reasons like say, someone launching a murderous illegal child slaughtering OIL stealing War.

However, interrupting a speech with "you lie" is not merely disrespectful it is extremely uncivil and discourteous. If the uncouth lout wanted to call Obama a liar he merely had to wait until after the speech and find a TV camera7mdash;there's no shortage of cameras around DC though I've heard one risks ones life and limbs if they get caught between a TV camera and one of the many celebrity-in-their-own-mind types who populate DC. However, shouting down speakers with crude attacks is the GOP way—Blobbo O'Lielly relies on that for handling any "guest" with a few not exactly in line with his delusions.

CNN was giving big coverage to the tiny brained. Grover Norquist must be having continuous orgasms over the prospect of a total shutdown of government.

Actually - maybe that's the best pushback. Give them what they want for 30 days - no taxes, no government services. You need a cop? Call Blackwater. Street's unplowed? Buy a shovel. Educate your own kid. Health care? Find a private hospital, but good luck getting there on unplowed and unpoliced streets. You say there are a bunch of guys on your street in cammies speaking a strange language? Try Blackwater again.

I get really tired of the morons who want all the services, the best schools, the safest airports, health care second to none - but who want to cut taxes. Teabagging Republicans aren't the only ones - there are plenty of Democrats who think they shouldn't have to pay taxes either.

Give them 30 days of personal responsibility.

Listen to how they whine about how they pulled themselves up by their very own little bootstraps, all by themselves, without ever acknowledging that every phase of their lives is safer and easier because those who went before them were more socially conscious, more forewarding thinking, and showed more civic responsibility than they will ever even be aware exists.

But they don't care about that - and it isn't because they had to work so hard for a living - it's because they are selfish, greedy pigs who think they are entitled to the good things they have but have absolutely no responsibility to provide for maintaining and building for those who will come after them.

They are stupidly selfish, or selfishly stupid, take your pick. Whatever. If running the country were left to them again, they would finish the job they started of screwing up this country beyond repair.

Every subsequent outburst, town hall disruption, new absurd lie, and fake scandal only further proves why these people should not be allowed to have ANYTHING to do with forming health care that will affect all of us.

They have shown themselves to be unworthy of participation.

the boot-strap thing is always amusing. If they were so self-reliant they would have created themselves, birthed themselves, nurtured themselves as infants and toddler, schooled themselves (figured out how to read, because it appears many of them are still woefully illiterate).......I could go on.
Essentially, they are profoundly full of shit.

So are the people they listen to!

They want to make $90,000 a year, have health insurance and nice things, large homes with great neighborhood schools for their kids, and good roads to travel on, etc......

Yet they want to buy all their stuff at Walmart for nothing, and pay no taxes! And they can't figure out why it isn't working?

"... but good luck getting there on unplowed and unpoliced streets"

So that's why they've been buying Hummers, and stockpiling ammo!

I agree though on the taxes.

The protests are about protesting the unmitigated expansion of government not eliminating government. If you ran your finances like our government ran theirs you would be bankrupt. That simple. Some one has to stand up against bigger and bigger government. It's not that government is inherently bad, it's just that special interests will always corrupt it. Even Sweden, the the country of nationalized everything, finance minister has come out against what Obama is proposing..and they ought to know. Expanding the federal bureaucracy is a form of eating for politicians. Transparency is what is needed not more government..

during Bush 43? It was ok for you racists then.

Face it. You have a huge fear of a black planet, and you lot are getting your black hate on because you are petty angry losers.

"The protests are about protesting the unmitigated expansion of government..."

If there is so much concern by the Right over this issue, why didn't they bark when Bush spent $1 trillion of borrowed money on his Iraq gambit? I also didn't hear anyone on the Right bitch when Bush gave away $780 billion to bail out...who? We still don't know where the money went!

The level of heath care and its cost containment are the issues upon which you initially built your protests...which protests were and are led and financed by the health insurance industry. Don't you get it? They have convinced you and everyone like you that you should protest against your own self interests, in their interest. They have you so pissed off that even the smartest among you are being led like sheep.

I'm sorry, but while I think it's a just cause to arrest unmitigated and unnecessary government spending, I can't fathom that being the core issue upon which these demonstrations are being held.

You have been bamboozled.

when Bush amassed more debt in 8 years that in the previous two hundred plus years of our republic combined?

Or you only object to the government when it does what it is supposed to do: take care of its citizens?

Maybe it is not such a great idea for the contingent of people, who have trouble walking and chewing gum at the same time, to try to articulate any sort of political ideology... at all. It makes you dolts look foolish (at best, and moronic with a side of assholiness in the common case)

as I think you'll find that Americans have prospered much more during Democratic incumbencies.... and then the Republicans get in and start their usual "spend and steal" stealth policies. OR, in the case of Dubya, he just lied right up front and took the cash.

- is responsible for the deficit.
- is responsible for the wars.
- is responsible for cronyism and the damage it caused. (Katrina)
- is responsible for our less than stellar reputation.
- is responsible for the out of control spending.

Where were these tea-birthers at when the worst president ever was ruining our country? Oh yeah, waving the flag and calling democrats and progressives un-American. A biracial man who wants to try and fix things get ELECTED, and now the big bad government is OUT OF CONTROL!!!

Spare me your bullshit.

Good responsible government - that looks after the people's basic needs is what's needed! Which exempts 100% of the modern GOP.

We didn't have these financial problems until the party of "small government" stole us blind, while putting the full weight of their fascist boots on the back of every phase of our lives!

And where did you get this Sweden info from? Fox GOP, clearchannel republica; or some other rightwing bullshit outlet for those too chronically lazy to research anything on their own!

he was fired for admitting that he signed something he didnt read

that shows bad judgement

end of story

then around 95% of reps and senators should be fired on the spot.

BTW, what he signed was a petition. Hardly binding, and not official (from what I have read). Maybe a small reprimand, but a firing?

If I was in DC, I would be out there, with the tea baggers, in GOP logo, with my sign:

OPPOSE SOCIALIZED MEDICINE
END MEDICARE NOW

They've been given a pass on this disconnect that needs connecting. Maybe we need to institute a "GOP" leafleting campaign at retirement communities with the same message. (Be sure to not use someones US mail box for such leaflets, btw.)

how those mean old codgers would kick the living sh*t out of you!

many of them are so medicated, I could walk and they still couldn't catch me. I work in a stroke center and you are way over-estimating their abilities. Although I have seen a granny or two get riled up enough to require two nurses and a security guard to restrain.

That doesn't waste trees. Make some sensational charges—maybe include some Ronnie Reagan quotes&mdsah;and set it up as a chain letter; you wouldn't need to send out too many original copies since sensational stuff seems to have "legs".

Maybe he already knows. I have heard the constant talk of The Left not being covered by the MSM on protests. SO F-ING WHAT? You do it, and keep doing it. Over and over and OVER. Or do you have a better suggestion?

Remember the 2000 election? HUGE protests in DC for Bush's inauguration motorcade. Not covered. Does that mean they shouldn't have been there? Not to me.

I tell you this: Do WE know about the protests in China? Yes. And does the Chinese government "allow" it? Of course not. It takes coordination between US and friends in other countries.

I know Americans don't like to believe this, but our country is worse off than many other countries. We need their help. You can be assured that if there is a giant protest, and US media doesn't cover it, but the internet does, and it goes VIRAL (important part), the MSM will cover it.

That's the problem with the Seattle protest earlier. *I* heard about it, but barely. EVERY progressive blog needs to cover large protests, and talk about it a LOT. Don't let them get away with it.

.

to cover anything that goes against their interests of their masters or that requires some actual work/thinking on their part is rather futile. We do need to generate enough buzz to force them to cover things.

million-man healthcare rally that is pro healthcare.

Instead of protesting the teabagging, why not strike until a comprehensive HCR bill that doesn't pillage the middle class is passed?

Granted, the majority of Americans may not be up for it, but the numbers to do some significant damage are there.

Protests are invigorating, communal and often fun.

But 80% of Americans don't do any of it and frankly don't pay all that much attention. Today, for instance, you'll have 100 times more people in stadiums watching football games, and more than that watching them on TV.

It's all relative. And the people marching today and the people watching on Fox ALL voted for McCain/Palin in 2008.

But WE do need to be very active in other ways, relative to what really counts: Nov. 2010. We need to organize in groups to get actively involved in registering new voters, in even holding some small
local rallies, and on election day to be involved in GOTV. That's the big challenge.

And, of course, continuing to fund candidates that we like.

We showed we could do it in 2008 (and 2006). But this is a midterm election and the challenges
for Dems are even greater than last year. Republicans, especially conservatives, love to turn out
to vote against Dems. Too many Dems stay home.

The above is important nation-wide, but especially important in states/ districts where Republicans think they have a legitimate shot.

"Stand up for the 70% of Americans who aren’t crazy."

How true. Unfortunately, 70% of the politicans are, so it cancels out.

Here's an idea; How about the media cover these tea party protests? I think there are people that still don't know about the thousands that came out in April. Choosing to not cover them and then later ridiculing Fox for doing it, and then reporting that Fox is in fact organizing these events across the country, is a cheap shot. I live in one of the "Fly-Over" states, but formerly came from Barbera Boxers district. Anyway, independents like me see what's going on in our own home towns, AND we know who these people are who are marching; they are our friends and neighbors, not agitators. My daughter was at Obama's inauguration; now she is organizer for Armey; we wanted change but not like this.

I've always thought the right was off, way off. Now I'm not so sure. Progressives need to wake up and move aggressively against the far left in their own party, or else suffer the consequences of lost opportunities for years to come. I'll even vote Republican if I have too in 2010. Wake up!!!

Don't lecture. You never liked Obama and that's fine, but your stripes are showing.

Since you are so damned concerned NOW, I have one question for you, where the hell were you the last eight (8) years? We lost more rights, were lied to in a manner that Pinocchio envies, saw government increased and the deficit increased in an astounding way and these guys are just now upset. It's laughable.

The reason most of us find these protests joke-worthy is because we also know the people that are protesting. Like, my daughter's boyfriend's parents and his best friend's father. Boyfriend's parents (dad is living on disability and buys guns and collectibles while his mom works) and best friend's father works for the water district (a government organization). The hypocrisy is astounding. Sure there may be a couple of people who aren't hypocrites, but when you have tools with signs that say things like "keep the government out of Medicare," and they are standing in a public park bitching about socialization, it's a joke.

Also, just because your daughter was at Obama's inauguration doesn't mean she supported him. I know lots of kids that were given the opportunity, many of whom did not vote for Obama and some that actually admitted to hating him and still went to D.C. because it was a free trip.

You say don't lecture and then you give one. lol. Anyway, I voted Dem probably longer than you've been alive. The point is independents will swing the vote everytime and most independents I know are financially conservative and socially liberal. I usually don't vote Republican because I believe the religeous right is way off base and I am a scientist (The creationists pushing their mumbo jumbo in our schools really annoys me). But if the left wing of our party continues with this massive government expansion I have no problem making a pact with the devil (or with the bible thumpers as the case may be) and throw the lot of you out.

)O(

Actually a large number of self-described independents are actually apathetic or alienated voters, so relying on their turn-out at the polls is problematical. The ones who show up the most are the elderly, hence the scare tactics by the right on medical reform.

However, don't under-estimate the elderly; they're not necessarily dumb, and realize their dependence on some government aid, although they may disagree to what extent.

There's been a recent number of republicans calling themselves independents to distance themselves from the fiasco of the bush years.

...fiscal coservatism in practice does nothing to reduce either the size or expenditures of government. It can be fairly accurately described as funneling of tax monies to private industry. It's telling to see that the only period of reduced governmental expenditures as a function of GDP post-FDR came at the hands of a Democrat (Clinton). What Reagan, Bush et al. were really accomplishing through promotion of "reducing government" was simply a reduction in efficacy vice expenditure. What we need is more efficient government, not less. With efficiency comes both reduction in size and waste, a political (if not governmental) sweet-spot, if you will.

)O(

They also greatly increased the size of their staffs and the power their branch wields at the expense of the other two portions of our tripartite government.

Clinton actually had a smaller staff than gingrich, and Gore's Reinvention of the Government stripped away many of the regulations they felt were hobbling business, imposed by dan quayle's Council for Competitiveness.

but sadly, it is how it has been redefined.

The thing that pissed me off about the 80s was that the feds tried to make their budgets look great by cost-shifting to the state governments, and underfunding programs with long term fiscal benefits.
That wasn't fiscal conservatism, it was fiscal stupidity for cheap short-term political points. Argh.

the presumptions were rife and then you assume that I'm young, thanks I guess.
You still didn't answer my question about where the HELL you were during the last eight (8) years , if you were/are so damned concerned about government growth. Did you have a Rip Van Winkle moment? It appears so late and lacking in truth to show up now, come and lecture people on a progressive site, about big government and spending.

Oh, by the way, if you throw in with the bible thumpers you'll get everything you deserve. I love the comment about "throw the lot of you out," you were never one of us, you just come here to lecture and attempt to feel superior. Hope it worked.

)O(

That's true considering that a growing part of the thumpers are Dominionists and Christian Reconstructionists.

)O(

I'm off to check out some on-line porn.

Have you seen this?

http://www.wouldjesusdiscriminate.org/index.html

IMO, very interesting interpretations.

The last 8 years, actually more like 12, I was in the military defending the country if you must know. How about dropping the ad hominum attacks ok? I dropped in this site because I like to see things from all sides. And FWIW, I am hoping Obama manages to get this thing back on track, but with more controls and more transparency. After all he is our President and I did take an oath.

.

Oh man, right on cue av8r.

Rightwing nutjob spammer MO:

1) Claim to be [Democrat/liberal] who is fed up and is going to be voting for [Ron Paul/Republican] to teach them a lesson.

2) When confronted by alternate viewpoints be amazed at the level of hate/lack of compassion among liberals.

3) When presented with facts that counter your claims, bemoan the ad hominem attacks being thrust upon you.

Do they just send out an email with this script or is there some sort of subliminal message in HeeHaw reruns?

expanded the 8 years to 12, so that he can blame Clinton as well, even though he had a budget surplus.

... didn't you hear? I mean the guy must have been elected by those waskally liberals according to the new and improved "Conservative revision of history."

be a sad day when you wake up and realize you have to justify how incredibly wrong you were.

[Comment Deleted By Administration For Violation Of Terms Of Service]
)O(

You have to read their halter topped nipples closely.

another concern troll.
Why did I bother...?

... you spent 12 years in the world's largest socialistic organization, the US Armed forces, and now you pick up the gall to lecture us about the perils of "big government."

So apparently, it makes perfect sense to spent 60% of our budget on defending us from terrorist threats that have as much likelyhood of affecting the average US citizen as getting struck by a lighting. However, spending a fraction of that money to "defend" the health care of our citizens (everyone in their lives is going to get sick or require medical attention at some point). makes no sense to you?

It is like building the world's most expensive wall to guard a derelict house.

)O(

Actually I served in the Air Force, E-4, Top Secret Clearance, Honorable Discharge.

I think my liberalism was latent but it came out whilst in the service.

)O(

With my four years active, four year reserve and an additional six years of having to inform the military where I was every time I moved (due to my Top Secret Clearance, and being sworn to secrecy for 10 years or face imprisonment), one could say I served for 14 years.

Now you might get an argument from a lot of the commentors on the C&L threads about this, because many of these folks are from the far left of the party- or left of that, even- but Nancy Pelosi is progressive, and the Democratic candidate opposing her for the Speaker's chair was the moderate-to-conservative Steny Hoyer.

And in the Senate, it's a handful of DINO's- Baucus, Nelson, Lincoln- from red states that are holding up progressive legislation.

As for your theory about independents...Well, that might have been true in the past, but in this last election, where there was heavy minority voter turnout, the "independent vote" was on the losing side.

would be considered centrist in most other countries, for what it is worth.

This is a conservative- as in slow to change- nation. It was designed to be that way, what with all of the checks and balances. If we had a parliamentary system change would come much more quickly, what with the head of government being the leader of the majority party.

AV8r, I'm guessing most of the 'independents' you know are fakes who fled responsibility for their former GOP votes.
The polling and voting data suggests that independents are probably about 50% idiots who make up their minds in the polling booth.
Also, why do you refer to where you live as 'fly-over country'? That's a bullshit term used by GOPers to aggravate the inferiority-complex nutbags who think everyone on the East and West coasts is speaking poorly of them behind their backs.
Frankly, the people who need to stop labeling parts of the nation and their inhabitants are the rightwingnuts in the South. I'm not a effing "Yankee", or one of the "nuts and flakes", I'm an American, so please STFU Mr. Redneck asshole.

I totally agree that some Independents are Repug Refugees, but there are some areas of the country with large groups of political Independents.

For example, in Maine approximately 4 out of 10 registered voters are independent of any political party, and Maine allows registration as a Green Independent, so the actual number of people who reject Dems and Reps is larger.

I wasn't broad-brushing. I said fifty percent. And I said 'most of the people he knows'.
Let's just say that too many so-called Independents are simply know-nothings who are so low-info they can't decide on a position until it's sold to them on Faux or CNN.
JMO. But I'm right. ;)

I'm left. ;o}

[Comment Deleted By Administration For Violation Of Terms Of Service]

I have never, ever, felt the oppressive weight of the government in every aspect of my life until the fascist GOPers took over in 2001.

So take your fear of good government expansion, and stuff it where the sun don't shine Mr. Trollman.

The independents you know are all this kind ? American Independent Party?

I am not that kind of Independent, but ok.

)O(

And here I thought the AIP made movies like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=czUAnuOMZ4k&fe...

It is no cheap shot to point out that the organizing, set up, and promotion of these so called spontaneous protests have been promulgated by Dick Armey, Fox News and, especially, Glen Beck.
Please do not lecture me about reigning in the "far" left when from what I have seen and heard from these people is hatred for this democratically elected President in the most coded and not so coded racist terms. Wrapped in the flag and spouting love of country is not the same thing as being patriotic and working for the good of all of the people.

You may be voting rethug next go round and that is certainly your right. However, please do not use that potential vote as some sort of bartering tool to warn to me "wake up."

If you wanted change "but not like this", you weren't listening to the campaign promises of the President. He promised healthcare reform and while I don't think he is being aggressive enough by not insisting, at the least, on a robust public option, he is doing exactly what he said he would do.

The disrespect and ridicule shown to this President is being watched around the world. Are you proud of what is happening? Where were all of you for the past eight years while the uncontolled spending and rolling up of record deficits were occurring?

Spare me your rightousness.

No rightousness intended. The independents make or break the vote. A simple fact. I think it's odd that the Dems always talk about being so open to differing opinions, but then are shocked to learn that their are other opinions.

)O(

Then why is it with Democratic control of the White House and both branches of the Legislative, they continue to argue among themselves?

That there is still hope the blue dogs and other conservative leaning Dems might prevail? After all everybody wants to be re-elected.

If health care gets screwed up, it will be the bluedogs who get wiped-out!

And the 38% majority the GOP now holds, will be shrinking drastically over the next 15 years as the Fox codgers kick-off in large numbers, and the demographic shifts bring the tectonic changes that will all but kill the teabagger morons!

Regardless of what happens now, in twenty years (if I am still around), we will have single payer, the rich will see 70-80% marginal tax rates again, the Fox and Limbaugh type bigots will be used as laugh material, and the country will be a much better place once more.

Of course the teabaggers will all be institutionalized; but with single payer, they will be able to protest while being in very competent psychiatric hands.

)O(

What you're referring to is not necessarily the independents, but the vote-splitters, that's why we often get an executive from one party, and another party in Congress, or at least one of the houses of Congress.

What's funny is vote splitting is what helps create gridlock, and the vote-splitters are among the first to complain about said gridlock.

The term independent is amorphous, and is being generally used as a replacement for Nixon's "Silent Majority."

that? You've got a right to an opinion and we have a right to call you on it. I believe that's called a discussion. Just because I'm a liberal doesn't mean I'm nice, I'm a pussy, anyone can walk all over me, that I have to be open to anything that anyone says I should be open on/about.....

Differing opinions are fine - they are what makes this country different than other countries that aren't allowed differing oppions. Differing opinions make the country stronger.

But that's the point here. We had an election and that election rejected, soundly, the excesses of the past eight years. It's just that these Beckers want us to believe that suddently, just like that, they realize that this isn't the government that represents the people. This government doesn't look like any of the past governments. Well, tough luck, cause it's going to take a lot of change, movement, tough choices and hard work to clean up what was heaped upon this country and the rest of the world by the former presidency and rethug controlled congress who happen to look more like the government they like better.

Just listen to Beck - he is obsessed with Pres. Obama. Why do you think that is? What is it that this President has done in a short 8 months (other then drag the country from the brink of depression) that has suddenly - after living all of these years under numerous administrations - caused him to say things like "time is short, the clock is ticking?"

Please look at these tea baggers. What do you see that makes them more representative of this country than those who swept the democrats into power? What is the one common sight you see among them other than anger and hate.

It's isn't that dems don't like differing opinions. We just don't like the shouting, ridicule and threaats coming from a mob mentality created and corporate sponsored by Dick Armey, Fox News (foreign owned, by the way) and Glen Beck.

)O(

You signed up a little over an hour ago to push these stupid tea buggery meme.

At least they get mentioned. There was a large protest about a week or two ago to keep public option in, and the "liberal" msm didn't mention that at all.

And we had to watch PBS to even learn about the large protests due to Cigna's Death Panels denying 17 year old Nataline Sarkisyan until it was too late to reverse it, because two hours later she was dead.

they'd say she didn't pull herself up by her bootstraps, didn't bear enough personal responsibility, etc.

)O(

Generally when polled the American public seems to favor what might be called the far-left agenda: enviromentalism, progressive taxation, medical health insurance reform, getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan etc., but if you add the label liberal to it it scrambles the results.

While extreme conservatism (nascent fascism) is being maintreamed into the media, the extreme left is being mainstreamed into American society.

Why the switch? What has Obama done that has made this country so friggin' horrible? Surely you're not actually believing the crap from Fox News about how Obama is a socialist and ruining the country. And surely you can't believe that the economy destroyed by the right over many years can be resurrected in only eight months.

And just because these people are your friends and neighbors doesn't preclude them from being agitators. More likely, they just get all their propaganda from Fox and are too lazy to actually look up facts.

your friends are passionately attending are the result of corporate astro-turfing,not a real grass roots effort.
You've all been had.

We have the asshole party
and we have the pussy party.

Screw em both! I think it's time for a 3rd party.

)O(

What's the difference between splitting up into more than two parties when what's required to pass legislation through Congress are majority votes?

Suppose that the progressive wing of the Democratic Party broke away to form a new party. Let's say that party took about 55% of the Democratic Reps, and about 45% of the Democratic Senators. Now suppose the GOP split down the middle, with their moderate wing and conservative wing splitting their Congressional votes down the middle. Where do you think the coalitions would be built? Do you think that the gridlock would end? Do you think that the New Progressive Party would vote often with the Conservatives?

Party has little to do with the current state of affairs. The problem is the corporate money that funds campaigns corrupts the system.

Democratic Independent Consortium (against) Kakistocracy?

The sad part is THIS:
WHERE are all the good people that carried the National Elections?
The other MAJOR QUESTION:
Is ANYONE out there taking notes, researching these "so called patriots" speaking today, and following what CORPORATES and MONEY that are behind this?
I think not.
These miscreants are playing with fire, and they really don't care about our NATION.
They care about their bottom line...even if they push our Nation into another "civil" war.
God help us all....

CNN has really become Faux Lite . Their website is featuring the Teabaggers Million Moron March and Wilsons assertion that he has raised over a million since he called Obama a liar. I read through the article to see the source . Guess what kids ? It was him. Just more Republitard bullshit and CNN gladly passing it along to the masses. CNN gassed the comments at 3 comments on that one. Guess they had a feeling what was coming. Getting sadder by the day.

I also noticed this severe inclination of favoring the Republicans in traditional media outlets like CNN and NBC that used to sympathize with liberal thinking and democratic values:

1) Why after 8 years of the most outrageous right wing regime the media is desperate to interview the most extreme conservatives and manage to get them prime time coverage?

2) Why after the obvious sabotage from the right wing to the Health Care debate on town hall meetings the media is taking those actions as a factual conclusion that almost everyone is against Health Care reform.

3) Why media outlets like CNN and NBC create circus shows by confronting opposite sides on the debate while we know that in reality a great majority of this country claims for a reform (otherwise President Obama won’t be president Obama and we will have senator Palpatine.. sorry Senator McCain as President)

4) Why polls suddenly when negative (this is what really smell fishy)

For me this is plain and simple, just pure racist mentality taking over the news; and is up to us to look at the facts and take action, we need to be more united more than ever like we were on election days. The right movement learned this lesson last November and they are starting to get back to us in full force.

...to get a news outlet to slide to the right, is accuse them of being in "The Liberal Media". Liberal is a curse word these days, so the media will do all they can to avoid the title...

Obama has demonstrated true compassion toward his fellow man. He could have mad megabucks right out of college, but instead he worked for lackey wages to help his community. As Maher puts it, he has Jesus-like qualities when it comes to helping his fellow man.

As a community organizer in a tough neighborhood, he developed a deep driving force for a 'kumbaya moment' among all mankind. And, therein lies the problem we face. Obama is driven by a powerful subconscious driving force to compromise and to not be confrontational. For Obama to be the asshole we'd like him to be would be defeat to him...his subconscious will fight against him being an asshole. The other side understands this, and is exploiting it.

This opposition to our President is racism, nothing more, nothing less. We can argue all the issues we want but the core issue is racism. The white male power structure needs it's fucking yellow spine broken and it's taking place before our very eyes and they are fighting, screaming, scratching, kicking and lying to keep this president from having any success. How would that look if a black man bested them?
They want to destroy him and it doesn't matter if they destroy the country to do it. Socialism, elitism, communism? All euphemisms for racism. I hate them, I really do and I'm not watching CNN or any other MSM, I'm not giving them the ratings. Let them eat shit and die. Why do we come and go "omg look what CNN just did"? What do we fucking expect? They're bought and paid for and they won't even allow a brother reporting on the president to have all the facts.

Who's the troll complaining about someone passing a far left agenda? What far left agenda? Maybe i'm blind but i'm pretty far left and I will even be objective and fair here, What I see from the obama administration is right-wing lite at best. From his contiuation of a lot of Bush's policies, waffling on healthcare to Afganistan. Where's this far left agenda i'm hearing about? If the Obama administation is far left to you, you must be further to the right of hannity, beck, orielly and the rest of the right-wing loons

ditto

If one could ever wonder what the jury pool for the bush administration's war crimes would be made of. Here you have it. The asshats walking around with 'bury obamacare with Kennedy' signs are the jury. 25% of the pool will make any jury hang and bushco runs free. They know it.

WOW

Bill, as much as I usually like you, have you got it WRONG.

People have been taking to the streets for liberal causes for YEARS, and nobody, including you apparently, knows it. Why?

BECAUSE THE MEDIA DOESN'T REPORT IT.

I find it unbelievable that Maher is actually making such a naive argument. It's not on your TV so it doesn't exist?? DAMN. I don't agree with him all the time, but at least I think he's smart, incisive, and not prone to bullshit. But he REALLY swallowed the Kool-Aid on this one.

I see a lot of comments here scolding Bill for getting it wrong. But surely he has a point. Yes, we Libs have marched against wars, torture, bailouts, and for healthcare. But we don't have an organized media infrastructure to name our political movement and embellish it the way Rush, Beck, and others have.

We do lack a political MOVEMENT. If we had a real movement, Barry would have had a far better summer. He could have done what Clinton did in his first Summer - which was lie low and wait until after Labor Day to push for tax increases and NAFTA (to Clinton's credit, he did tackle the Bosnian War, a mess that Bush left for him). But Barry had no choice but to take-on major agendas right away. He needed backup during the summer, and we weren't there for him. He took a beating from the Right Wing from March through August. Simple as that.

Comments seen today on Twitter: "CCRWM" said "The 9\12 DC event is a great protest. 2 million people have shown up..." and "Who knows if there will be another opportunity to speak to over a million people again."

FreedomWorks, one of the sponsors of the Teabaggers in Washington DC mob...er, march, estimated the crowd as 450,000.

There's a lot of whining about media crowd estimates: They're vilifying ABC News for an estimated crowd count of between 60,000 and 70,000.

A reporter from "Fox News" was repeating the HuffPo report of "tens of thousands", ANOTHER wacko senator from South Carolina (Jim Demint) corrected him to say there were "hundreds of thousands".

A freeper blogger whined in his Politics subforum "ABC and most of the mainstream media lie about 9/12 Washington Protest" ...

Compare this picture from today with President Obama's inaugural crowd. MY estimate based on that comparison: 100,000--125,000 people at today's Teabagger Whinefest, maximum.

That's only 0.05% of the number of people who voted in last year's Presidential election. Ha, ha, ha!! Even if they add today's Teabaggers in every other city in the USA, that still won't add up to more than 0.5%.

Lame, and getting 'way too much attention for their numbers.
