The proper response of the new president is to prosecute the SOBs for malfeasance in office.
Pettiness here was self-destructive. When the war crimes and private law suits begin after W leaves office, Obama will remember this snub. An America mired in deep depression will have little sympathy toward pardoning W or blocking extradition to the World Court for trial.

Like it or not Bush was a President for two terms and Americans did nothing about it until the Economic Crash. Even the illegal invasion of Iraq cause Americans to step up as over 1 million Iraqis were murdered, torture prisoners, kidnapped innocent men/woman/children, thousands of soldiers died, Foreign Countries threaten with attacks by the US if they didn't join in and so much more that will come to light. Now Bush who has the strong support of the Religious Christian Base lies about the Blair House so little kids don't have a place to stay when they start a new school. Yes after to cover the lie Howard was asked to say one night in a place that has 119 rooms and 35 bathrooms just to keep the Obama's out. This is what Americans have had reprenting them for 8 years. Mr. and Mrs. Bush have shown the World and the Religious Christian Base how they raised their son. As youth view the President and Law Makers as examples to follow don't ask why our kids are messed up. Even Sarah Palin greeted the Fox News reporters at her hotel room with only a towel on so we should know why Bristol got pregnant twice. Larry Craig dropped his appeal for sex charges because he's gay and was looking for sex in the men's room. A George H. W. Bush appointee who's a Federal Judge is charged with demanding sex from female employees and even forcing oral sex on those woman. These are just a few of what Religious Christian Values done by our Leaders mean in America.

The U.S. is the only country whose people speak as if "we" did this and that. "We" have no power and never did. It has always been "them" that control all the levers of power, as people in Europe know. Everywhere else, they know that elections do not a democracy -- or even representative democracy -- make. The only reason Obama got elected was W's incompetence and arrogance. Otherwise, their permanent Republican majority would have become a reality. As it was, Bush was worse for the country than an Manchurian Candidate ever could have been and polls were still a toss up until the economy melted down. This election was a freak accident and nothing more in our system.

The way I heard it Howard was asked after Obama got snubbed, not before. So OZ was Bush's excuse for snubbing, not the reason....
