Rachel Maddow: The Conservadems

Rachel Maddow takes the "conservative" Democrats in the Senate to task for sitting on their hands while Bush was in office, and choosing now to make themselves look as idiotic as the House Republicans - what with their new coalition and a sudden concern for fiscal responsibility in the middle of the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. Way to go, geniuses. So nice to see you channeling John Boehner's rhetoric on spending!
Rachel should have just called them what they are: DINO's. Of course, if she did, the list would not be limited to these few. We've got two corporate parties: One that likes unions and actually cares a little bit about governing, and the other that's just lost its damned mind entirely and worships at the throne of Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin.

This is why I got pissy when after the election there was all the chatter about being in a "center-left" nation. It's arguable that the citizens are if their true ideals are taken into account but when it comes to the actual representative government we have, our media and the pollution of wedge issues it is laughable that we are in a center-left nation. We've (the country, not C&L readers) been brainwashed/hijacked by the rightwing into electing reps against our interests out of the fear of secularism, terrorism and socialism.

There ARE other choices. It's just that people continue to have this mentality that they cannot support something new to them. In most people's minds they can only choose one of the corporate stooges. Heaven forbid someone vote independent or Green...or heck, even RUN as an independent or Green.
"But they'll never win!" Sure, the first time, or the second. Or they won't win a seat in Congress, but they'll have a chance at Town Council, first.
If people would stop settling and vote, run and just DO what they actually believe in, we would be in much better shape.

Today's Democratic Party is too conservative for my radical leftist views. I feel very liberated no longer being affiliated with the DLC-Corporatist and Reagan lite--Democratic Party.

Your views are similar to the majority of Americans. Why do you think there were so many disenfranchised voters in prior elections? People voted for Obama BECAUSE he was so radically different from other politicians.
While the Congress sees Obama as a radical, the people see him as normal. It's just that Congress is 30 years behind the rest of us.
I am a radical-leftist, and proud to say so. Please do not confuse being a reactionary to one who is radical. I am not an anarchist. I believe in radical political action to overcome oppression, sexism, homophobia, racism, and so on. Without radical action, the corrections in the form of change do not occur. I will never depend on the political or ruling classes to make necessary changes to their oppressive policies and plans. As a radical, I find the etablished order as it is now to be very repulsive.

Where the hell were the dissenting opinions on ANYTHING--much less the rampant spending and no-bid contracts--during Bush's Reign? THERE WASN'T EVEN AN OPPOSITION PARTY, much less dissenters (other than Feingold and Byrd).
Not surprising, as FOR YEARS, Democrats have been so meek, they've been Republican lite. But Rachel is ABSOLUTELY right. Not in decades have the people given the government such a mandate.

Stewart was great.
He was relentless.
He was unequivocally on the side of the people.
He reminded me of Edward R. Murrow.
The other folks who run "news" shows were put to shame.

Re neither Rachel nor Keith commenting on the Stewart/Cramer interview: This is not correct. I can't comment about Olbermann (I missed his show) but RM devoted a segment to this interview on her Friday broadcast. She wasn't shilling for MSNBC's corporate litter mate CNBC, but pointed out that the huge interest in Cramer's very public bitch slappin' shows just how PO'd the public is at business and the business "journalism" that enabled these crooks and liars (to coin a phrase)for long.

then, if all that fails, maybe take a senator's plane out with EMP (for example.)

I think this may be the right answer. Our efforts need to be focused into 1 area, like California for example. CA is hijacked as far as I am concerned, the voting places need secured properly and then the state house and senate need cleaned out with real Progressive Liberals(majority of Americans what ever you want to call them/us) Somebody has to start it, I am sure the bankrupt states in the west would be more than willing to set up a new monetary system separate from the fed. Just need a few large celebrity's to help finance such a move. I guarantee, unfortunately that would start a civil war, the Fed wants the treasure in the western states for themselves over here on the east coast. Maybe it's time for US to do what the classic redneck slave owners did a while back, even tho that war was about the Fed too, I think. As soon as the break happens the bankrupt deficit would disappear, everything needs set up locally food to heavy industries separate from the rest no ties or trade with the rest, till all is settled. Bohemian grove needs shut down too, maybe a great new capital could be built there, too bad for the global elites no party for you anymore.

We need a process for voters to be able to recall democrats by their voters. This process should be available whenever they start voting with and for the republican's policies , which are against the values of our party and our laws , constitution and the policies which have destroy our country and economy it has in the past 8 years..
Some of the Blue Dogs were actually campaigning against Obama and other democrats in the 2008 elections..
They say that the democrats are trying to make the wealthy give their wealth to the other 95 percent of working Americans,.. But the truth is corporations have controlled the policies and action of the elected official which has been given the wealth and power to the elite and corporations..

Face it , too many Dems are nothing but self serving whores and are just as corrupt and just as big of a problem as the Republicans who are 99.99 % corrupt self serving whores .The whole system is corrupt , all of it . An "apocalyptic meltdown" would not do any good , the ones who have the money and the power would still see to it that " we the people " got the crap end of the stick . I do have faith and trust in Obama but very little in the Democratic party as a whole who's backing and support Obama needs . I have been complaining about the Blue Dogs for over 3 years and now others are catching onto them being republican in their support on a daily basis..
This is one of the reasons Bush invited the Just the Blue Dogs for a private meeting when the democrats won the majority in the house in 2006...
This has been one of the reasons that Bush , Cheney and the republicans have been so arrogant in their actions , policies and statements in the pass 8 + years...
I hope that the democratic groups like moveon.org and others do their research and find real democrats to run against them when their term in up...
these blue dogs wouldn't have a leg to stand on if the liberal groups and unions realized the biggest obstacle to progress is the talk radio monopoly that generates most of the local pressure these red state dems get.
some may have real conservative principles but some may just be trying to serve their constituencies and still haven't figured out most of the calls their offices are getting from people screaming "socialist!" into the phone are idiots who are surrounded with limbaugh and hannity and savage 24/7. they may be a big part of their constituency and they may or may not have voted for them or even be dems but that is where a main chunk of their daily input comes from when it comes to important votes.
the dem party needs to do an intervention with these dems and point out to them they are not responding to a genuine sentiment and they're riding the wrong bandwagon. they're responding to the GOP-coordinated uncontested repetition coming from blowhards sitting on the biggest soapbox in the country.

Unless you've got thousands of dollars to contribute to their reelection your letter, no matter how strongly worded, will end up in their circular file.
I have a feeling that even though the "Dems" are in the majority, the re pubs may regain their strength. It will take years and would not be a good thing. BUT, they who don't realize should know that parties can regroup and come back to play again. There are many true conservatives in this country. Many are union workers, and middle and lower class citizens. They have to be spoken to by the Democratic Party. Remember, Reagan won with "Reagan Democrats" Its important not to narrow the message as to alienate any part the vast constituency that is the WINNING Democratic Party. The Re pubs do not have nearly as big a tent as the Democratic Party, pretend as they may.. WE win every time if our message is clear.
That said, Rachel is spot on. Now is the time to put down the re pubs, like a mercy killing. Another Political party will be birthed from the ashes of the Neo-Con debacle. That party should not include any "conservative Democrats."

Bernie Sanders is a democratic socialist that was elected as an independent. There needs to be more democratic socialists in Congress, not more conservative corporatist Democrats.

An open letter to the Conservadems,
Sir, I voted for you during the last election. I voted Democratic because I wanted drastic change. The Democrats laid out a clear plan. I LIKED THAT PLAN AND VOTED FOR IT! You sir, have betrayed us! You decided to rob us of the change we asked for and put you in office to provide us with. All my work, hopes and faith were wasted. I'm sick of the quislings cheneys, roves, limbaughs, gingrichs, boners, and the rest of those so called Americans going on television; cheering for and working toward the failure of their own country. Getting face time and giving succor to our enemies. They show the world how easily the will of the people can be thwarted by a hand full of ignorant self serving catilines.
I assure you, that should you turn your back on the citizens who elected you and if you insist on voting for what YOU want instead of what WE voted for, I will do everything in my power to oppose you in any endeavors you ever undertake. Fool me once, shame on you.....in this case you won't get second opportunity! I simply can't believe you did this to us!
