Here's one of the leading contenders for the Presidential nominiation in 2012, and his solution to fixing our economy... keep those Bush tax cuts in place for the rich and pass a Constitutional amendment that forces the Federal government to balance the budget. You've just got to love these born again deficit hawks that don't think the rich should ever have their taxes raised and think we can control the deficit without it. Pawlenty does say there should be exceptions to those budget cuts but did not elaborate at any time during the interview as to what those should be. If I had to guess dropping bombs on poor people's heads and paying for more wars would be one of them.

Pawlenty elaborated on his views here in an op-ed he wrote -- Balanced budget amendment will do just that:

As we begin a new year and Congress reconvenes, an unpleasant reality is increasingly hitting home with ordinary Americans: Leaders in both parties have irresponsibly run up debt. And, since President Obama took office, the debt crisis has grown exponentially worse. The only way to solve the problem in the long run is with a Constitutional amendment. Read on...

Of course Pawlenty thinks that the stimulus plan has failed as well and we need to put a stop to that. More tax cuts!! Yeah, that's the ticket. We all know how well those that worked with stimulus 1 that Bush put through with tax cuts that didn't do an ounce of good. Of course that's not going to get in the way of Pawlenty and his talking points.

It was the boosh tax cuts for the top 5% and his concurrent wars that broke the economy to the point where they're talking about freezing programs when they should be talking about infusing money into the creation and maintenance of infrastructure.

An oxymoron if there ever was one. Unless of course the objective is a police state.

Tax the Rich's picture

No you psycho, lets not get rid of tax cuts for billionaires and millionaire greed head assholes who make more money in a week, than most people make in a lifetime.

Far better to reduce wages for workers, cancel health insurance, middle class retirement programs and cut everything in the government - even though the most essential government functions have been cutting off bone for years, much better to do this, than make psychotic assholes like you pay some more in taxes.

If Rupert Murdoch, Melon-Scaife and the rest of the republican nazi machine can spend billions on propaganda to create an alternate reality for the sole purpose of avoiding taxes, then I think they can afford to pay billions more in taxes!

So STFU Tim Pawlenty, and that goes for the horse you rode in on too, you horses ass!

If I were a psychopath, I would join the republican party, and get in on the gravy train taking the Teabircher morons to the cleaners.

prepare yourself folks, cause the rethugs are going to reload for the 2010 elections (not to mention 2012). They'll become the majority (yes, believe it!) and then talk about the "Party of NO." We'll see feudal times again where the rich s**t don't stink and everyone else is dirt. These people are masters of manipulation (why? because we let them) and propaganda (does Nazism and fascism ring a bell?) to their minions. I don't know what rock these mentally deranged criminals crawl out from but I pray that the rock falls swiftly upon their pointy little heads.

How much do ya think Nancy Pelosi, Jane Harman, and Jay Rockefeller made (and are still making through the end of 2010) off the "Bush" tax cuts?

How'd they ever do it without 60 votes in the Senate? I guess when it's important to people that really matter, 60 votes isn't so much a hurdle as it is a completely non-existent barrier.

..but hey, wasn't the reversal of the tax cuts on the rich and shameless a priority for the new President? Weren't they going to use the increased revenue for something called "health care"? How much did the w tax cuts on the wealthy cost us in revenue? - $782 Million or Billion, can't remember which is which anymore now that we're talking about trillions owed.

The middle class will be destroyed. FOX will blame all their troubles on lack of personal responsibility AND call for more tax cuts for corporations. America will be angry, cause it's all the fault of gays, lesbians, brown people and Democrats.

It's the same message out of these bugs time after time after time.
Their whole free market approach is a proven bust that continually grows more onerous and unmanageable yet they demand more of the same.
Greed is not good,it sucks the life blood out of everything leaving countries hollowed out shells incapable of sustaining any kind of meaningful civil societies worth living in.
A year ago the whole ideology was teetering on the brink of collapse, and now what?Time to welcome it all back with sheepish gratitude and relief? Why? It doesn't fucking work.

"To me, truth is not some vague, foggy notion. Truth is real. And,

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

Ready to dissect every word that's said. Then twist it to suit their needs. I have to admit, I'm disappointed in Obama. But, I still hold out some hope that he gets this right. One thing for sure. If the GOp were in the Oval office, after the last 8 years, I would have no hope at all.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

pissed off patricia's picture

Hell, they are already doing it and have been all day. If McCain and Palin had won the election I'm pretty sure I would be in the hospital today being treated for deep depression. No matter what the president says or does, I will never feel as bad as I would knowing Palin was one heartbeat away from being the president.

What is your conceptual, continuity?

progress_junky's picture

And this is precisely why the U.S. will continue its downward spiral. The dems know that no matter how badly they f*** us while they are in office that the liberal base will continue to vote for them as the "lesser of two evils." If the liberal base voted for a progressive candidate or sat out in just one election, maybe, just maybe the Democrats would get the message. On the other hand, I sorely doubt it. One has to believe at this point that the Democrats want to fail, since, for them, there's no success like failure. At this stage, they simply have more in common with their Republican counterparts than they do with their own base.

Medicare, Veterans Benefits. Welfare. Food stamps.

In the long run governmental budgets ought to be fairly balanced, but every few years we get a recession and then a balanced-budget mandate turns into a poison pill. The only way around that is for the government to build up a sizable rainy-day fund but then these same "sane government" types start carping about the guvmint holding onto their hard-earned money.

I know republicans don't want to hear this but yesterday Oregon voted to tax the rich. Anyone making over $125,000 and a couple making $250,000 is going to be taxed. What a concept I wonder why no one ever thought of that before.

Not only would I like to see the G Dubya Bush tax cuts go away (like forever!), but I would like to see taxes go back to a level comparable to those that were in place during Eisenhower"s administration. How do you like them apples, Sheisskoff ?

We have an economy to rebuild, right here at home. Plus, we also have 2 - 1/2 unnecessary and illegal wars to extract ourselves from, and pay for. If you don"t like that bit of bad news -- well, it's just too damn bad that you screwed over the survivors of the 9/11/2001 attack. Consider it to be a bit of well deserved karma coming back to haunt you ...
