The Pap Attack- The Rise of Right Wing Hate
By Heather Wednesday Jul 08, 2009 4:00pmMike Papantonio gives our own David Neiwert a shout out in his Pap Attack on GoLeftTV.
Since 9/11, the right wing hate talkers have stepped up their vitriolic attacks against anyone who doesn't agree with them or doesn't look like them. Through their demonization of liberals, Muslims, Hispanics, and gays, they've opened the door to a new era of intolerance and hate in this country. And with that hate has come an increasing number of politically-based murders - murders which are becoming so frequent this year, that we haven't gone a solid month without some right wing nutjob pulling out a gun and killing people who didn't agree with their beliefs. Mike Papantonio discusses the mental breakdown in this week's Pap Attack.

Describing those who condemn and dehumanize others as lunatics, dimwitted and simpletons... Try looking in the mirror.
We can't rid the nation of illiminationists by becoming them.
We won't get rid of these assholes as long as there are people who equate the people trying to neutralize these assholes, with the assholes themselves.
Yep. Some people have no clue. The reason these psychotic mouthpeices have become so toxic in our society, is because good people chose to ignore them for two long!
Well, what are we supposed to supposed to call "people" who act on the insane, hateful ramblings of freaks like O'Reilly, Beck, Hannity, Coulter et al. Huh? What are we supposed to call them? Intellectually gifted? Free thinkers? Courageous Patriots? No, I don't think so. In fact "dimwitted lunatics" is tame compared to what I would call them. And another worthless concern troll bites the dust.....
The name really fits. Congrats.
.
Are you saying...
... That calling out a liar is a lie because sometimes the liar doesn't lie?
BULLSH!T!
.
The right wing hate talkers have had the airways for over twenty years now and have kept the less intelligent of Americans worked up into a frenzy. They have all but destroied the country and the republican party. The modern day republican party bares no resemblence to the party of Lincoln or even Eisenhower for that fact.
My god man look around you. We are dealing with people that would rather believe that are right then be right. People that profess great morality while showing amorality. People that only seem to be interested in what happens today, and could care less about tomorrow.
People that use political power for self advantage not the good of all. People that will lie with a straight face for a few dollars.
I don't believ there is any way around it.
republicanism is a mental illness. It needs to be treated. It could already be to late!
We have right wing pundits inciting people to murder, often outright SAYING that people should go out and kill, and what gets me is that they're still walking around free.
Last time I checked what many of those evil hatemongers are doing is illegal.
So why aren't they in jail? Why aren't people charging them with crimes?
"We have right wing pundits inciting people to murder, often outright SAYING that people should go out and kill"
I would love to see a link on this.
Try this for starters:
Michael Reagan, June 2008:
There's a further collection of eliminationist rhetoric here. Not all of it is this explicitly violent, but some of it is.

David, is that for real??? He said that? WTF over?
So I could walk out my door and be shot right this very minute and someone like Michael Reagan could not be held somewhat responsible in some small way?
At least morally or something? I can't believe they get away with all this kind of talk.
Only crickets chirping from the demanding moose.
...and David. √
It's not simply hate or love of country, it's just part of growing up.
Amended: communication is key.

Is it a Smear Campaign?

GROAN! Man, ys, I knew if anybody was going to post that it would be you! LOL :-)
I just got that book delivered today. I was flipping through it and was looking on page one and ended up unable to put it down for awhile.
It's going to be very good.
I do think many of the rabid rightwing base did not start out angry and hateful and racist xenophobes. Many have been conditioned from listening to it to become this way. They may have started out listening to Limbaugh because their buddies or co-workers told them he was funny to listen to and spoke 'our kind of language'. Eventually the guy gets sucked in and finds himself growing irritated. Then he starts watching Faux and it's pumped up even more.
What began as a fairly average guy who may not have even known he was racist, find himself agreeing the supremists or other fringies. Start hating blacks or hispanics, ect.,
The stuff is very similar to me as getting sucked into drug addiction.
Only it's hate.
There's no way back for these buffoons. It's game over. It was ugly while it lasted.
Right wing extremism has been such a grave threat for the past 30-40 years since either Nixon or Reagan. It shouldn't come as a surprise that this political pillaging of the world (or at least the US) is a greater threat than terrorism and global warming.
My older brother used to be a swell guy, but a few years ago he declared himself a 'born again Christian'..and a Republican.
Soon he became fans of Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage, and in his many attempts to bash liberalism in my presense, he'd never offer his own critques- He'd blindly repeat what Savage and limbaugh said..
What gets me is the constant projection- He calls the Democrats fascists, he insistes Pres Obama has too much power- yet my brother remains a total apologist for GW Bush's crimes.
And when proclaiming the so called superiority of Christianity, my brother NEVER spoke of emulating Jesus's message of charity and compassion (which my brother dismisses as 'liberal hippy bullsh*t. My brother think's Jesus's message was for people to worship him as a god, or be face being sent to hell. ) My brother ignored Jesus's positive teachings, and rather focused on declaring his hatred for..everyone- for gays, latinos, Muslims, liberals, etc.
Like many Christians, he ignored what Jesus actually said, and rather worshiped him as a GOD, and hated all those who don't.
Personally, i think this Christian religion is a very dangerous and destructive CULT that promotes self hatred and the hatred of others- and in this country, the hate spewed from right wing Republicans is coming from the Christian zealots that have taken over the party.
Radical islam may preach hatred- but so does radical Christianity
you must be right. There must be some element that works that way. snap!
That's why you gotta keep religion seperated. You only get to believe in a religion in a democracy, not impose a religion.
Wow! I got a fe in-laws just like that. Suffice to say, the are not very bright.
... the Four Assholes of the Apocalypse.
What a waste of human DNA.

Let's just blow through any pretense that what paid advertising jackals are doing on air resembles reasonable editorial comment or sane behaviour : Shock Jocks are an institution devoted to Hatemongering.
I agree they are worse : but ignoring how bad they really were previously is a mistake too.
Check out the AlterNet story on George Orwell, author of 1984. His writing
was influenced by experience as a Talk Radio Shock Jock.
You know intellectually that media are controlled by a limited number of powerful companies. The implications of that are actually reasonably aligned with RoboCop and The Matrix and a society controlled by transnationals : violent and merciless.
It's been a long time since anti Monopoly legislation curtailed the excesses of Robber Barons. WTF do you think happened to the world economy ?
Looking at my Index makes me grin : it has become so very extreme in appearance in comparison with what are laughingly called News Outlets in tones of reverence. Not me. I'm kicking against limited viewpoint. The references are there for anyone who thinks going around in circles discussing the same things over and over unproductive.

...what they want to do to 'the druggies'. Richard Miller was on top of this over a decade ago with his seminal Drug Warriors and Their Prey; From Police Power to Police State
This dehumanization has been going on right underneath the noses of so-called 'progressives' for decades, with their (mainly) tacit approval (silence = assent) and often with their legislative actions to try to appear "tougher on drugs!" than their mouth-breathing, foaming opponents. The very same dehumanization process Mr. Neiwart, Mr. Papantonio and others who claim the mantle of 'progressive' are bemoaning as if it were something new.
Nope, the dehumanization process has been going on for at least 4 decades, since ol' Tricky Dick ramped up the 'War on Drugs' to hit back at his favorite targets, like Blacks, Hippies, Anti-war demonstrators, etc.
This dehumanization process aimed at illegal drug users has allowed for a fascist attitude to be fostered amongst law enforcement towards some of our citizens, due to their choice of intoxicants. That attitude is now being extended towards those who previously thought themselves immune. Their silence and inactivity regarding the gross social injustice involved in drug prohibition has come back to haunt them in (what seems for them) a wholly unexpected way...when any history book provides examples of what happens when that dehumanization process is allowed to be deployed against a section of society.
Pastor Niemoller must be shaking his head in the Afterlife; people still don't get what he was trying to say. In this case, it started with "First, they came for the druggies..." Now we're all at the end of the gun barrel.
They've been pushing this crap for so long, and when Bush won in 2000 and 2004, they thought most of America agreed with them. Now Obama is in office, and there are 60 Senators who don't share their point of view. They feel rejected. They feel on the outs. They're throwing a hissy fit, on their back, kicking their feet. They aren't thinking of whether they are making any points with the people are the moderates of the country. As long as they continue to say these things, they'll drive more and more people away. Wake up America!
60 Senators who disagree with them? I wouldn't bet money on that.
This is one of the most impressive analytical pieces I have seen on "TV" in many years. This kind of "connect the dots" thinking is so lacking from the conglomerate media networks, precisely because they appeal to the simpleton. Hats off to David Neiwert for laying this all out in clear perspective, and to Mike Papantonio for illustrating the concepts so well. A rare use of media that makes its case so clearly... And sad & silly to read the comments (left on the youtube page) from targets of the hate strategies.
Put all these Right Wing-Nut dickheads and self-hatred talkers and they still don't have any balls between the group.
