Ed Schultz goes after "Psycho Talker" Orrin Hatch for this statement he made on the Fox Business Channel with a little mashup of what we can thank Republicans for when they ruled the roost under George Bush. From Think Progress--Sen. Hatch’s Solution For The Economy: Put The Country ‘Back Into Conservative Republican Hands’:

Towards the end of the interview, Glick asked him what his “solutions” are to the problems the country faces, prompting Hatch to respond that he’d start by putting the country “back into conservative Republican hands” and keeping the Bush tax cuts:

FOXBIZ: What are your solutions to jobs, the unemployment situation, rising health care costs, energy costs that are rising, inflation that is still a concern, how do we solve these issues right now? Are we trying to do too much too quickly?

HATCH: Number one you get the arrogance of power by throwing the Democrats and get the control back into conservative Republican hands. Number two we should not do away with the Bush tax cuts, those marginal tax cuts are a major help to try and keep the economy going. Number three we should use fifty state labratories to do health care.

Susie smacked Hatch around for saying something similar on the Senate floor last week--Sen. Orrin Hatch: If Only The GOP Had 60 Votes, We Could Fix The Country.

... and I'm sure Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are personally taking full advantage of them.

And wasn't that Bernanke guy re-nominated? Treasury looks pretty conservative too.

Just how much more conservative would he like it?

that the Devil does not care for his own.

Mormon republican pipe dream--which just happens to be very damp. The repubs got us in this mess along with bclinton with repeal of Glsss Stegeall ,NAFTA-CAFTA, the Telecom ACT and on and on --a pox on their souls.

They're scheduled to expire in 2011. Duh.

3p:

Agree with Schulz. On a side note, our language is dead. It's strange to hear vernacular like that coming from some one older and educated. Strange to see a "journalist" like Mika change the spelling of business to bizness. Little bit of Idiocracy making its way into the beltway?

It's really quite simple when you think about it - give the economy back to the people who destroyed it (smacks head) - THE GENIUS!

Because they'll get it right this time. Honest.

having done it wrong in so many different ways.

destroying what left of the "economy".

1.2M jobs created or saved. 1st month in 2 years we have a gain. $200B left to create more.

You might as well vote for Palin, I'm sure she'll help your kind.

Assuming you're right....(which I don't)....exactly what is the point of your silly post?

Jettison Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Texas and the entire deep south.

no American thinks of himself or herself as cruel, or connected in any way with the world's largest human and environmental killing machine.

I'm sure I left a few states out. Kansas for one.

a study or poll to learn why voters and taxpayers of certain states-territories are not the CIA snatching people off to Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan to be raped with broken bottles and boiled alive to extract those "terrorist confessions" that keep the war on terror alive.

How about missourah?
That's how blunt and bond and asscroft say it, along with many others.

Native son Rush Limbaugh.

even in Missouri . .

enclaves don't carry the state.

"get the control back into conservative Republican hands."

"conservative Republican?" WTF?

I am more conservative than most republicans I know. There is nothing conservative about being radical. These are radical anti-government kooks trying to break up, downsize, eliminate any government service that helps people to prove government can't help people.

It is pretzel logic turned on its head.

"I am more conservative than most republicans"

I was doing the same thing.

LOL

...

I totally resist change - kind of old fashioned - careful with my money - I believe in following the rules and obeying the law (mostly) - I would never litter, drive drunk, or refuse to help someone in trouble.

I believe in conservation of the planet, resources and government intrusion.

If one goes by older more traditional definition of conservative I think I qualify. If one has to be a tea-bagging anti-Obama Xtian - I fail on all of those.

:)

"I would never litter, drive drunk, or refuse to help someone in trouble.

I believe in conservation of the planet, resources and government intrusion."

One could make the case you were a liberal all along.

...

I don't think a conservative would vote republican - the two terms have become interwined but they are not the same thing. R as conservative is a M$M meme these days - has been since about 2000 IMO

Now they have a choice. Pilin and ben gleck.
Rotsa ruck.

As Harry Truman said, "If you want to live like a Republican vote Democratic."

History shows the economy does far better under Democratic control. See study of statistics here...
http://www.business.unr.edu/econ/wp/papers/UN...

...

Absolutely

The Democratic administrations have been way better for the country in too many ways to count. The economy is just one.

He's not rowing with both Orrins. '

Geithner in a letter to Congress has extended the TARP program until October 3, 2010 as was his authority under the original law, here

Just a reminder for those not paying attention, the TARP amount of $700 billion recycles ad infinitum. They pay it out, it is repaid or not and that amount is restored to the $700 billion, when they say they have not used it all, it is not quite the case.

As a further reminder, that $700 billion, or whatever the actual amount extends to, is only the tip of the iceberg. The FED through their purchases of MBS (Mortgage Backed Securities, IE Toxic Asset CDOs) have done what the original TARP was supposed to do but in a completely OPAQUE manner.

The entire amount handed over to the Wall Street Crooks posing as Bankers has been in excess of $5 trillion, maybe as much as $17 trillion though not the $23.7 trillion referenced by Neil Barofsky because some of the slush funds never actually were started.

Small comfort.

Meanwhile the homeowners of the country through the deflation of their home values have lost valuation of $5.9 trillion, reference here, but others, Dean Baker among them have used a number of $8 trillion.

The wealth of the peasants is drained away but never fear, between the Treasury and the FED the Oligarchs will be taken care of.

"Brand America"

The great mocha hope turned out to be a Trojan horse for Wall Street and the Pentagon.

The major banks have repaid a significant portion of the TARP monies, AND have decided to opt out of the 100% FDIC insurance program.

We can discuss the politics of why later. Just want to set some of the record straight.

BoA is apparently paying theirs back, more below, Citi is not.

They have not repaid the substantial credit backstops which for Citi was $301 billion and BoA was $118 billion, neither of which are part of the TARP.

Never referenced except in one article in WaPo last November and at Zero Hedge recently*, but dwelt upon by me (and Michael Hudson) is the IRS Section 382 tax loophole which was illegally granted by Paulson but legalized by Obama in the 'Stimulus' bill. You can read about it there. It amounted to hundreds of billions in tax write offs that were not included in any of the 'Stimulus' totals.

The entire process has been a shell game. Setting the record straight is going to be an enormous task since so much of it has been done in the dark.

As I said and repeat, the TARP is only the tip of the ice berg.

The repayment terms have been very dubious, Elizabeth Warren puts the number 67¢ on the dollar.

BoA's repayment (which is the one du jour) is about them escaping the salary caps and not that they are financially sound.

*From the Zero Hedge piece

In the years to come we suspect many theories will emerge with respect to the day we should sing the bailout anthem to commemorate the creation of Bailout Nation. We think that day might well be September 30, 2008.

I think it was September 15, 2008 with the collapse of Lehman, the acquisition of Merrill by BoA at which time Lewis was, it appears, promised the tax write-off which appears in the Section 382 notice and AIG was bailed out 100¢ on the dollar for beacoup de billions in Credit Default Swaps that should have been paid, if at all, at maybe 17¢ on the dollar maximum.

What we had was a financial coup d'Etat. Pure and simple.

since it is mandatory, I believe to have a bank charter in some cases.

They "opted out" of paying their dues. They are still covered, I think they expect the tax payer to pick up the tab when/if they go under. Given the lack of request for responsibility from their part, I don't think I blame them for doing just that.

Funny thing though happens when individuals don't pay their dues and decide to "opt out" of mandatory insurance (car, etc).

The set of double standards is so egregious, that I have to wonder if that points out towards this being a failed state.

I do not want to do away with the Bush tax cuts, I want to do away with Reagan tax cuts and put the top tax rate back into the 70% range where it should be.

Yes, and today on MSNBC the old Hatch-it said in regard to Howard Dean's proposal to lower Medicare eligibility age to 55: "That would result in only sick people applying and thus raising the costs!" My goodness are these guys self-serving and uncaring about people's lives. Let the poor sick people die sooner....right Hatch?

Q: "How do you stop domestic violence against women?"
A: "Hit them a few more times, so they learn!"

Q: "How do you reduce your risk for heart attack?"
A: "Easy! A steady diet of fried eggs and bacon!"

Q: "How can we stop other cultures from hating us?"
A: "Bomb them until they see it our way!"

Q: "What can be done to reduce the number of maulings by bears?"
A: "Re-locate all bears to urban areas, so they become used to human contact!

Q: "How can we increase tax revenue?"
A: "Cut taxes. But only on the wealthy. And pretend we're doing it for the average Joe. In the name of freedom. Even though the theory has been disproven, over and over. If that fails, make all of your wars off-budget. Then blame liberals for your deficits."

Q: "Wow! How can I get as smart as you?"
A: "Easy! A steady diet of lies and paint chips!"

Zzzzzzactly!

The floggings will continue until morale improves…

millions of Obama's former supporters have awakened with a splitting hangover to find their pockets turned inside out and eviction notices on the doors of their 4,000 square foot subprime mortgaged cardboard boxes.

Off topic.

Where's the thread about how Harry Reid jettisoned the public option so the blue dogs can turn around, renege on this supposed deal, and make him look like an ass.

That stupid wrinkled up old asshole gave away the only leverage he had. Now they're gonna make him AND US pay for his stupidity.

There will be no lowering of the Medicare age limit. Mark my words.

OMG

Who could've forseen that the bill would be watered down until it was completely meaningless in terms of actual healthcare reform? Oh wait, that would've been about 60% of us here at C&L the day they took single payer off the table.

what the health insurance companies paid for...

or, as Wendell Potter called it, "The Health Insurance Company Profit Protection and Enhancement Act."

this is another case in which liberals have been right all along, but we have been told to "wait and see" only to wait and see that indeed we were right all along.

The only answer Republicans ever have for anything is tax cuts. Oh yeah and 'Put us back in charge.' I'm sure it will all be differant this time, right?

You keep running back keep running back for more

Yeah, let's vote them all back in! Then they can cut taxes again - after all, the last time we voted them in and they cut our taxes and federal programs it was GREAT for both the economy and the budget!

what is next, Christian Catholics who believe in Jesus?

This guy fights everyday for the poor, middle class, small businesses, etc. Ed has enemies on both sides because he won't kiss ass. Today on his radio show while talking about the apparent Health Care capitulation, Shultz sounded like a man who had just been mugged.

...

Big Ed is passionate but he is wrong as often as any of the talking heads.

He offers his opinion and I agree with him once in a while.

which is very good news. I remember him shilling for Daschle a few months back... which I found rather off putting honestly.

I don't follow his show much (I listen Air America sometimes in XM, and when Ed comes in, my commute is over) but I am glad he is sticking for health care regardless of the political affiliation of the people getting in the way...

...and to me the man has never not shown a backbone. Ed isn't a scholar like Olbermann or Maddow, but he's honest and has been right most of the time.

Given that so many of these Republicans have had to give some kinda "Baby, I'm sorry, but I'm gonna make it up to you, just you wait" speech from time to time with their wives, no wonder they think it will work with voters. I just wonder, what kind of low self-esteem must Mrs. Craig, Mrs. Vitter, Mrs. Sanford, et al have to stick with these dirtbags? Is it as low as that of the voters who keep giving these liars another chance to screw them over until the next "Baby, I'm sorry..." speech?

It's just the standard ping ponging of disappointment and disgust that comes after the honeymoon is over with any administration.

... without killing yourself? 'bit(h & moan, pi$$ & groan, why oh why was I ever born' is not conducive to problem solving.

If they can fix the election, they can fix anything!

More like the Booby Hatch.

the very legislation that was drafted solely by Republicans and rammed through Congress through Budget Reconciliation measures are set to expire 2011. If Republicans are so concerned about keeping the Bush tax cuts, then why didn't they make the cuts permanent when they drafted the legislation? Think they won't turn around come 2011 and say Democrats are raising taxes when the Bush tax cuts expire. Think again.

Booga booga booga!

Hope the people who are slagging the Dems over on the health care thread (a fair number of disguised Repubs I suspect, but...) will come over here and realize just what is at stake when we say we're going to help Republicans get back in power.

I guess Hatch's solution for putting out a house fire out would be to throw gas on it.

This Clown and his Party of No and OBSTRUCTIONISM had over 13 years to fix things and other then solving the problem (s) they are the PROBLEM, and this MORON is one of its cheer leaders.

some people may forget....

here is an article by the "heritage foundation"
by Brian M. Riedl
"Ten Myths About the Bush Tax Cuts"

here is the article:
http://www.heritage.org/Research/Taxes/bg2001...

is surpassed only by the gullibility of the people who believe him. He and his party presided over the biggest economic train wreck since the Great Depression and his response is to blame the problems on the Democrats.

Definitly out of his mind and not facing reality ... like the rest of them . The mind blowing thing is that so many people are so ignorant and stupid as to believe him , how can a sane person even explain it ? For some reason it seems corny to say it these days but these guys truly are evil and completely mad .

The Bush years doesn't count because they all had their fingers crossed the whole time.

I'm generally not a fan of this segment on The Ed Show because I don't like the negativity. However, it is important to expose the ludicrous statements come out, and this one is a doozy.

Hatch continued his meltdown on "Morning Meeting" today.
It says a lot about why the nation is in such a mess, when a Senator with Hatch's seniority can't find any better solution to huge, enormous problems than 'throw out the Democrats and let us run things again'.

It would be sad if it weren't so disgusting.

What Hatch, just like Michael Steele and John McCain, is really saying is, "I'm melting! I'm melting!"

I wouldn't want this guy making a decision about my local schools, let alone a federal government.

It's just very, very sad.

But it means the only ones left to do the 'heavy lifting' are the Dems.

It's more than sad , it's frightening , these guys are the moral and ethical equivalent of the very worst in history . Even more frightening is the fact that a good percentage of the population support these A holes and buy into their lies and deception 100 % against all logic and reason , what it amounts to is that they are cultists , greedy "haves" , psychos or simply dumb and ignorant beyond belief ... and brain washed .I find myself repeating it over and over again ... the ignorance and stupidity of these people because it is truly beyond understanding and just over loads my circuits .I can imagine the desperation and helplessness felt by the good and sane ones who were against Hitler and the Nazis in Germany but could only watch as they gradually gained support and power .

Talk about giving the victim back to the rapists.
