I would like to not thank bush for sending my friend to Iraq for 13 months and stealing those months from a life that was 50 years old. That same life came home fine but died about a year later. His family missed having him with them for 13 months of his last two years of his life and for what? He never believed in the mission bush sent him on and neither did I. I still miss him.

Because lying the country into a war for profit demonstrates true "support for the troops." The unnecessary death of hundreds of thousands, the creation of millions of refugees, and the torture of thousands demonstrates a true "love of country and commitment to our security."
Just like leaving an occupying army of 50,000 troops represents the "the end of our combat mission in Iraq."

Thanking King George the Lesser for "winning" the war in Iraq with the surge is like thanking a doctor for stopping an infection caused by his botching uneccessary surgery. IOW we never should have been in Iraq for there to have been a need for a surge!
Let's not forget that the "surge," as a military strategy, didn't actually happen. It was the fifth such increase in troop count to occur during overlaps between rotations. The Bush administration spent six months of planning and prep to do nothing other than change the phrase "stay the course" to "surge."
Other than the killing of several hundred more U.S. troops, what did the surge "accomplish" that wasn't already in place the day Bush ordered the surge?
Democratically-elected government in Iraq? No.
Settlement of the oil rights? No.
Reconciliation of the three major tribal areas? No.
Iraqis safer? No.
The region safer? No.
USA safer? No.
I knew Repugs would see to it that facile "the surge worked" meme promoted by, eventually, virtually EVERYONE in the media would come back to haunt us and so they did and it has.
