Note to Joe Scarborough: Col. Jessup Went to Jail
Joe Scarborough continues his torture apology tour on Morning Joe and the man is just getting nuttier by the day. Maybe if Cheney decides to run in 2012 he can get Scarborough to sign on as his campaign manager, since it sure as hell looks like he's auditioning for it.
Think Progress found this little gem I thought was too good not to pass on and I'll let them take it from here:
Joe Scarborough’s defense of torture and its apologists has grown so desperate that he’s now resorting to quotes from fictional characters in Hollywood movies to support his position.
[.....]
In the movie, Cruise’s character gets commander Col. Jessup, played by Nicholson, to admit that he ordered two young Marines to assault and kill their colleague. The Cheney-esque Jessup defends his decision by saying, “[his] death, while tragic, probably saved lives” and “[y]ou have no idea how to defend a nation. All you did was weaken a country today.” So in that sense, yes — Cheney’s speech yesterday was “straight out of ‘A Few Good Men.’”
But to refresh Scarborough’s memory, at the end of the movie, Jessup ends up going to prison for his actions. “[Y]ou’re under arrest, you son of a bitch,” Cruise tells Nicholson’s Cheney-esque character in a dramatic scene at the end of the movie.
We can only hope Cheney's fate is the same as Jessup's but I don't see much hope of that happening. In the mean time we have Joe Scarborough who if nothing else, continues to serve a source of entertainment when he does things like this, and who's irony alert button seems to be broken under the force of the man's own ego.

would be a better name for his show.
If he had not been a congressman and a republican he would not have a show on the laughable TV .
I quit watching in 2003. The only time I see shit like this is when I watch the clips on the internet.
You could not pay me to watch his whole show.
...except for that 'five deferments, had other priorities' thing.
do they ever have to face reality? Or can they live their entire lives like it's a movie (A Few Good Men) or TV show (24)?
Too much coffee Joe gets schooled every time he faces off. God forbid it should be someone sharp like Maddow. He grabs his toys and heads for the locker room
Politics is ugly
Former Vice-President Cheney, while in office, enacted a non-violent coup and committed treason against this nation. By his own admission, he violated his Oath of Office, which is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.
He usurped the authority of the President, the United States Congress, the Supreme Court and the American People. He should be tried for treason and nothing less.

When Bush asked Cheney to vet all the potential candidates for Vice President and Cheney chose himself!!
"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn
and hung.
"If the US government enforced its banking laws like it did its park regulations, we wouldn't be
in this damn park in the first place." OCCUPY.!!
As much as I would like to declare "guilt" and thereby issuing his punishment as well, I will leave it up to the American Judicial system to work its magic.

I heard another Republican quote, "A Few Good Men," the other day. It made me laugh, well, laugh & yell at my computer. Have they watched the whole film, or just that scene? Do they understand that the Tom Cruise character is based on David Iglesias & he's the hero of the piece?
I'm guessing that Dick Cheney as Jessup is the new GOP talking point/masturbation fantasy to replace Bush as Jack Bauer in "24."
God, I hate that movie....
If a drone kills a child in Kandahar, do the crying parents make a sound?
I like that movie. It’s interesting that Joe thinks that the protagonist’s merit was due to his being good-looking. We were cheering for Tom Cruise ‘cause he smiled pretty at the screen? Really?
Col. Jessup (“you want me on the wall, you need me on that wall”) was written as a nearly insane psychopath. By illegally disobeying direct orders, he caused the death of one soldier, and the prosecution of two-more. Joe got the parallels right, but the antagonist wrong. Neither Col Jessup, nor Cheney, are heroes.
That’s just the movies however. As someone on another site commented, in the movies the bad guy goes to jail, in real life he goes on Fox News.
This is probably the version that Joe likes, I know I do.
Probably NSFW BTW.
A Few Good Men
Its kind of like how they made disgraced former Colonel Oliver North into a hero and G. Gordon Liddy. These morons committed crimes, yet they are "heros"?

If the pattern of corruption in the republican party continues from Nixon to Bush, Cheney is a perfect fit for 2012. Each rethuglican administration is exponentially more corrupt, greedy, and psychotic than the last one that hands off the traditions of darkness. If Cheney is ever president that will be the end of my living in this country.

Start planning now. I wouldn't trade my expat experiences for anything!!!

I'm getting really tired of the system here. Corporate media, dumbed down masses, little social safety net, endless wars, MIC, religious fanatics, etc. you know. Change may be coming, but I don't see it. Anyway on topic, it's time for morning joe to be replaced by something more Liberal for these so called "Democratic Socialist" times.

............get the hell out!!! I've had over 16yrs. as an ex-pat, and have not been indoctrinated with the dumbed-down trick of Cheney/BOOOOsh, and have a great quality of life. It doesn't take that much $$$$.
Another soft-handed "tough guy" quoting his movie heroes. If Scarborough thinks life is so simple that it can be summed up by a god damned movie caricature... I don't even know what to say.
By the way, doesn't the idiot realize that Jessup was the *villain* in that story? His bravado-fueled tirade about embracing immorality because it helps soothe your cowardly heart wasn't supposed to be *inspiring*, for crying out loud. What the hell is wrong with these people?
Wasn't Bill Kristol saying he sympathized most with Darth Vader the other day, and that he'd been rooting for him from the beginning? Seriously-- these people are just stupid and strange.

Seems like Cheney IS Jessup ... "America can't handle the truth."
So i guess Joe doesn't pass go. Sorry Joe. The whole house of cards must now fall Joe. Humpty Dumpty is unrepairable, and you sir are a cad.

Scarborough would get life imprisonment---and so would a lot of the
propagandistsmedia hacks he calls colleagues."We will find fulfillment not in the goods that we have, but in the good we can do for each other."
Robert F. Kennedy
bj from an intern and he was impeached.
Scarborough had a dead intern found in his office dead one morning with a cracked skull and he got a tv show.
Dick Cheney is a draft dodging coward pussy that never served in the military but is so willing to send others to their death. I will rejoice when Big Dick takes his last breath as a sure hell awaits this most repugnant human being so filled with anger and fear.
I'm not surprised. We are talking about people who idolize a shitty actor who became President, after all.
Will be appearing at Pittsfield, Massachusetts own Colonial Theater in a few days to give a speech about "The Press's Role in Covering Presidents".
Oh, boy.
"The US has an army of 90,000 soldiers in Afghanistan and is spending $100bn a year, but has still been unable to defeat 20,000-25,000 Taliban who receive no pay at all." - Patrick Cockburn
Unfortunately, she misread the title of the speech as "The Press' ROLL in covering Presidents" and is now prepared with loaves of bread to hand out.
None of her interns told her about the mistake yet. They're bringing bologna and Velveeta to the Theater.
(She's not too bright)
spot on!
Why are all their heroes, ideals based on fiction? Actors like Reagan and Arnie. Novels like atlas shrugged. Fictional doomsday scenarios ala 24.
chance that the DOJ will do anything about prosecuting the war criminals involved in this torture, and there is apparently more of it then generally known. What is the point in being interested in politics or law if the whole system is corrupt and beyond redemption?
One of the Republicans many psychological flaws is their continual blurring of the lines between reality & fantasy--to them, shows like "24" are reality, as are numerous John Wayne type movies ("A Few Good Men" being of that ilk)--the only way that I can see to cure them of this kind of psychosis would be to subject them to the reality of their convictions.
This is not new, as I recall, the review for 'A few Good Men' in the American Spectator was indignation that they would treat an American hero like COL Jessup so badly. Because they believe the man was right and the ends justify the means after all. They like to twist the meaning of things, they claimed the movie Forrest Gump as a perfect example of what they represent and tried to claim that the Jenny charachter was a perfect example of what Liberalism represented (of course we could never claim that they were secretly in love with us despite our faults, plus how many of them served in Vietnam?).
When angry, count four, when very angry, swear.

What did Mikas father say about him, it was so true and to the point. If Mika is a liberal then I guess I am a communist, facist, pinko Nazi stooge.
Remember that young lawyer played by Tom Cruise was a real lawyer ,aaahhh the AG of New Mexico that was FIRED.
The preposterous attitude that I should except the TRAITOR cheney as a hero is sickening this is a COWARD that used deferments to AVOID Military Service. Oh1 the biggest thing in it was a MOVIE and much like the Party of Hate they embrace FICTION over REALIITY
if he wants to idolize a torturer he should go for the real deal, Ming the Merciless!
In that scenario, who would be torturing whom?
Joe exemplifies the cowardly outlook that the end justifies the means. To him the fact he is safe on his worthless television show (should be cancelled) is more important that the values of the constitution.
(Liz) Cheney/(Dick) Cheney 2012. Or is it Chee-knee?
If there's any justice at all in this world, Dick will be in Federal Prison by 2012, and Liz, too....visiting dad.
And wouldn't it be great of President Obama to arrange for Dick Cheney to bunk with his old pal, Libby?
Shooter & Scooter, together again!
Dick Cheney dressed in prison clothes and shackles staying in one of his prisons with GW as a cell mate, now that is a movie I would like to see. I am looking forward to that documentary.
Would bring the closure we all seek on these two.
Joe you are helping your cherished Republican party into the abyss and you don't even know it -What a joke you are!
Your nothing but a sleazy ex-congressman- lawyer who uses your show as a platform to boost your own pathetic ego.
No one I know watches your show.......

It saddens me to see so little real journalism anymore, replaced by networks and peoples opinions, bobbing heads with verbal diarrhea touting opinions about FACTS like people breaking LAWS and Torturing people seen to be debatable? when the facts in this case are irrefutable, Dick lied and tortured people a lot. Now lets look at bringing charges upon him and prosecuting him unless Dick would prefer without any legal representation Gitmo seasoned with a little water boarding on arrival
FACT - TORTURE IS ILLEGAL. Now the fact that this is even being debated is what the problem is, as specially when movies are now being associated with this mans actions and his crimes.
The world is looking for indictment of the us government from the American People on torture, it is either legal or illegal.
Oh I forgot, Dick is above the law. Right.!
If I volunteered to defend somebody who murdered a doctor, If I gave up my congressional seat after a dead girl was found in my office, do you think MCNBC would give me a TV show?
Sorry but in the movie the Col. ordered a code red. He didn't order the two marines to kill their colleague. Just the assault......just sayin.
