There were so many annoying and utterly ridiculous things that came out of Peggy Noonan's mouth during her appearance on Meet the Press, it was hard to decide which ones to post, since there were so many to choose from. Here she is taking a not-so-veiled shot at Elana Kagan.

NOONAN: It is amazing to me that we are, what, nine years into-- into these wars?

BROKAW: Longest war in American history.

NOONAN: Oh my goodness. And we are not talking about it every day.

KEARNS GOODWIN: Right.

NOONAN: On the streets and in the cafe--(CROSSTALK)--and over coffee. It is amazing. It's just accepted as a fact that one doesn't comment on.

BROKAW: Well, that's because less than one percent of the country is fighting the war. I mean in 99 percent of the country nothing is asked of us. I mean--

NOONAN: So then we better get-- (CROSSTALK)--ROTC back to Harvard.

KEARNS GOODWIN: Right.

BROKAW: Well, I-- I don't think that will make the difference, with all due respect, 'cause they have a choice of whether or not they wanna join ROTC. They don't have to. It's not--

NOONAN: Sure.

BROKAW: --mandatory.

NOONAN: Of course.

h/t Mugsy who sits through this nonsense like I do every Sunday for the tip.

I liked where she talked about DADT, and she said passing it was a leftist issue, that the center supported.

"It’s a liberal issue, it’s a left issue, fine. But it was in line with centrist thinking. The center supported the change."

If the center supports it, it's a centrist issue! And Noonan writes as stupid as she talks. Usually people correct their stupidities before they go into print. Not her.

Until you respect the citizenship of those with which you disagree, you're not a true American.

We should scrap the 'all-volunteer' model and require conscription as part of any bill authorizing the use of military force. Folks in 'Real America' just might be a little more contemplative about the necessity of war if their college-bound kiddos are potentially filling the boots on the ground. In fact, anyone under 42 years old might wanna think twice before supporting war on a 'tactic' with no clear exit strategy.

Mandatory draft for the wealthy and the GOPhers.

They want neverending military action and war profiteering - they can send THEIR kids.

If we actually did that they'd have kids through surrogate mothers and send them to kid farms to be raised and sent to war. If they're lucky the kid dies and they can say they've spilled their family's blood and they don't have to leave an inheritance.

The kids they care about are hidden in an ivy league college.

Why are these people, who have done nothing but help drive this country into a ditch, given a forum.

Right. Because the media and the Villagers are covering for the criminals, the Bush Administration, who started these wars of choice. And Obomba is upping the ante. Send them all to the International Court in The Hague.

I would like to nominate Peggy Noonan on the right, and Pat Caddell on the left, for membership in the irrelevant McLaughlin Group. They would be welcome participants in the weekly PBS circle jerk.
Is there a more irrelevant "news", program outside of the parameters of Faux noise than PBSs McLaughlin Group? Could there be more worthy nominees than Noonan and Caddell?

'Talk to the hand'

having to sit next to a 3rd rate political hack and propagandist like Noonan.
I would have refused. Or, when I sat next to her and she started talking, I have asked her:
"Really, Peggy, do you normally drink 3 double martini's before every appearance?
Your breath smells like a vomatoium on St. Patricks, Day, if the Irish had such things. Here, take a tic-tac. No, not one, I meant the whole fucking box. And when you speak, please don't breathe on me, I have to drive home, and I don't want to get a DWI."

Why on Earth is anyone even watching Meet The Press? Even Tom Brokaw can not bring back any credibility to that TV show.

What, no hat tip for this catch? :)

I reported it in the Sunday Roundup, using the same words: "thinly veiled", so I know it came from me.

No biggie, but the occasional "cred" is always appreciated. :)

Oh, yes, we all know how many military volunteers the Ivy League schools churn out, even with ROTC programs.

Sheesh.

I think we should spend every minute talking about how the right wing got us locked into two stupid wars for no good reason, maybe if their president was a little more alert then we could have avoided the disaster that was 9/11 resulting in far too many of our soldiers dying for nothing (not to mention the 3000 people in NY and DC)

So yes Peggy, we should talk about it 24 hours a day how the right wing in this country screwed us for generations to come.

Was this clip before December 21st?

Because that's the day Harvard University told the Boston Globe that the ROTC is welcome back on campus, effective immediately.

Brokaw said BO better listen to the business guys who were 'knocking on his window'...
The whole show sucked.
When gregory served up the question about BO being asked about 'change you can believe in' by Jon Stewart, she didn't flinch and didn't respond to it.
It will come back again and again.

NOONAN: Oh my goodness. And we are not talking about it every day.

What's stopping you and the rest of the media? Oh, I know It might remind everyone this is the Bush/Cheney legacy.

we don't have to pay for it right now. Time to reinstate the draft and this time there are no exceptions and no joining the Air Guard. And we need to have a rule that all wars must be paid for before the fighting starts.

Hey, if you want to get people talkin' mention the DRAFT especially at Harvard! Also, this repeal of DADT might just portend the return of the draft 'cause now all of those potential draftees won't be able to get out of it just by "tellin'"! And if they do bring back the draft I wonder if they'll accept "other priorities" as grounds for deferment?

Noonan must be living inside a double beltway bubble. Stupidest 'feel good' thing i've ever heard, unless she is willing to put on a uniform and go to Afghanistan herself. How about it Noonan. That will feel even Gooder you know.
