From Washington Journal Oct. 25, 2009. As much as I hate to say I agree with Newt Gingrich about anything, I'd say he's right here. Gingrich is asked what he thinks about E.J. Dionnne's article Is there room in the GOP for moderates?. Gingrich says there is and disagrees with Dick Armey who has injected himself into the NY-23 special election and endorsed Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman over Republican Dede Scozzafava.

It appears not everyone agrees with Joe Scarborough and Dan Senor that this Republican food fight is good for the party.

But I hope they follow army!

mental illness?

I will repeat this comment from a previous comment I made on another post.

This election in Northern New York state is very very interesting and says everything about the state of the Republican party.

First, Nate Silver over at his blog broke down the numbers for, Scozzafava, the Republican candidate that the many national Republicans, including Scarborough are against. And she is conservative for NY state. I am not sure what certain Republicans are complaining about? Scozzafava is very conservative for NY state.

"Scozzafava's score puts her in the 58th percentile of her party, which makes her slightly more conservative than the average Republican legislator in Albany, so she's a conservative in her [state] party."

See Nate's numerical analysis of her voting record here:

http://www.fivethirtyeight.com/2009/10/scozza...

Second, what is interesting about the debate about this NY congressional election is that Republicans on the national level are trying to push a very right wing agenda down to the local level. It will be interesting to watch if the far right-wing ideology will work in all areas of the country, particularly the North-East, California and the NorthWest. Every area in this country has a different definition of what being liberal and being a conservative means. I think it will be pretty hard to drive the views of a few far right-wing national or even southern conservatives down the throats of people in all areas of the country. It just will not work. Seems like a pretty ridiculous small tent strategy to me.

I think the mistake the Republicans are making is that they think the teabag protestors are widespread, popular and the way to go. In the NY race the Conservative Party candidate is being supported by the teabaggers in the area, which I think has spurred on the Republicans at the national level to jump ship and support the Conservative Party candidate over their own Republican candidate. The problem is that the teabaggers probably not only represent a very small minority of Americans, but also a very small minority of Republicans.

"Republicans on the national level are trying to push a very right wing agenda down to the local level."

The old "battle for the soul of" routine.

change depending on the outrage du jour. Next week they'll protest the color green and the letter R.

GOP man fight!

Get your popcorn and peanuts!

is what passes for men folk in today's GOP?

Gingrich looks downright coherent compared to Armey.
They're both a pair of obnoxious clots however.

Newt does hunt giraffe so . . .

"If combat means living in a ditch, females have biological problems staying in a ditch for thirty days because they get infections and they don't have upper body strength. I mean, some do, but they're relatively rare. On the other hand, men are basically little piglets, you drop them in the ditch, they roll around in it, doesn't matter, you know. These things are very real. On the other hand, if combat means being on an Aegis-class cruiser managing the computer controls for twelve ships and their rockets, a female may be again dramatically better than a male who gets very, very frustrated sitting in a chair all the time because males are biologically driven to go out and hunt giraffes."

Of course you have to read the quote in that whiny sing-songy girly voice of Newt's.

:)

LOL

Ah good times...

I'm not putting any money on Newt.

I wonder how many times this ass has been in combat.

the American Taliban Party these days?

But I doubt the ideologues in the GOP will listen to him. Their fundamentalist neocon ideas are more important to them than an GOP umbrella (or the country!), as they so vividly demonstrate by endorsing the Conservative Party candidate (who came in ninth in the GOP contest!) over the party choice, Scozzafava. When someone like Sarah Palin says rural America is "the real America," when only 20 percent of Americans live out in the country, she is cutting off 80 percent of voters. Let her live with the consequences of her short-sighted (some might say $tup|d) statements. If the GOP does not heed Newt, let them implode the party.

Said one of the fathers of the bare majority.

The hardcore fundy Repukes are not far from being the Taliban. That said, all fundies are pretty much the same, no matter their religious affiliation.

All the fundies are fundamentally nuts!

It is an admission of personal insanity IMO

Both Parties have consistently been trying to kill of democracy since 1960.
the republicans just don't have quite so many interests pulling on the oars and they are the party of status quo.

but i'm not the one who has control of the votes in the electronic voting machines. What we need to pay attention to is, how the votes are counted in all districts, cities, counties and states elections.

Voters can be given a 16 character number and letter code to match their vote, and then the results can be publicly displayed and still be confidential.

Ability to confirm how a particular person voted after the fact makes it trivial to implement vote-buying schemes and lots of other nasty business.

Anyone know what Gingrich had to say about Dean and his 50 state strategy? Could be interesting.

You can read between the lines here, the republican party is desperate lost some (r) and independent voters to obama for "change". in order to get those voters back they will put on their moderate mask. although many here blame obama for many issues i still say the BUSH legacy was/is a bigger mess than people realize. the right is trying to minimize and smear the BUSH leagcy onto obama. the right is prepared to blame the obama administration for the worst recession in decades. they will blame obama for the financial/BANK system collapse/bailout. they will blame obama for record unemployment that has occurred for many reasons but one being lack of borrowing from BANKs. they will blame obama for two war fronts that were mismanaged and are fluid/everchanging. they will blame obama for record foreclosures that was a downturn spiral before he got in office. they will blame obama for the automaker bailout that was in full swing and hit the crisis point during the oil/gas prices brought on by BANK/financial institution speculators. OBAMA does have some blame coming his way like any president, but i personally will remain open minded as much as i can. the REPUBLICANs are doing everything they can to roadblock on every issue so to be able to point their finger at him and lay blame on him so to create their IDENTITY. they will now put on their modeate mask after moving the country in an extreme position during the BUSH yrs. i hope people aren't completely fooled but i'm afraid they will be. the REPUBLICANs handed obama the mess and will NOT help him clean it up. by the time the next election comes they will say he didn't change anything. people will forget when obama opened that white house door there was shit everywhere.

It's interesting how little the word "obstructionist" gets applied to the GOP considering it's their entire game plan until the next election.I hope to Christ Obama has finally had his fill of this "bipartisan" misadventure.

i have to agree with you. i say that with some reservation because i bought into obama trying to bring the country (more) together/consensus. the rove/neoCON plan to divide and conquer was very effective social engineering. the (r) has no interest in working/solving issues here at home with obama. they're more interested in creating their identity at his expense. it seems like just yesterday the (r) were blaming CLINTON for everything NOW they skip BUSH and blame obama. in my experience with today's (r) they will not admit to much fault because they were DIRTY in getting to where they are.

By my count:

1. The east coast
2. The west coast
3. Hollywood
4. Massachusetts
5. Chicago
6. Big cities

--New Orleans-- too many poor blacks still left alive, post-Katrina

--Hawaii-- too "exotic"

The real US is comprised of a handful of former Confederate (ie, traitor) states, and Alaskan secessionists.

The rest of us just... hate... America.

:D

Hawaii is only "real" if you mean real exotic. And you did not put a value on San Franciso which, according to every GOP ad, has such.

It's hilarious to hear Newt Gingrich saying, 'the Democrats are going to make a shambles of this economy'. It's been a shambles for some time, for *most* Americans.

If we just accept his suggestion here that the GOP's ideal economy is the one we had at the end of the GW Bush presidency... well, I think they're going to be out of power for a very long time.

Let's hope so!

The D's are enough trouble. Let the GOP fade away and split the D's into labor versus corporate interests.

Too late the Republicans have already made a shambles of the economy. A nice parting gift, the Bush recession and the Bush deficits.

Obama is blamed for the Bush deficits, but they were many years in the making and something like 90% of the expected deficit spending to occur over the next three years can be blamed on Bush. The recession alone is the biggest part of the expected deficit, as it caused the tax dollars or govt revenues to dry up. The Obama agenda by some studies is may be responsible for 3% to 10% of the budget deficits over the next three years.

Newt Gingrich, King of the Trolls

C-SPAN: "If you were to run, what factors would you take into account? What would lead you to think about running?"

GINGRICH: "Callista and I are going to think about this in February 2011. And we are going to reach out to all of our friends around the country. And we'll decide, if there's a requirement as citizens that we run, I suspect we probably will. And if there's not a requirement, if other people have filled the vacuum, I suspect we won't."

because that wedding vow "In sickness and In Health" is one that Newt continues to ignore.

He left wife #1(his former high school English teacher, Jackie) because she had cancer and even served her with the divorce papers while she was in the hospital.

He left wife #2 (Marianne)when she developed MS.

Callista better hope she stays healthy if Newt decides he wants to challenge Obama for the White House in 2012; otherwise, he'll dump her just like he dumped the first two wives.

Coulter is available.

And newts are another name for the salamander:

http://www.dragonorama.com/creatures/salamand...

In casting a circle:

"I call upon the guardians of the Watchtowers of the South, thou leaping salamanders and fiery ones, lion in passion and dragon in power, phoenix arising pure and whole from the flame, Notus, watcher and master of the South wind, be with us in passion and in truth, bring us the warmth of the hearth fire and the summer sun, and the clear sight of noonday light. I summon and stir your bellowing fires and call upon thee for thy presence and thy blessing. Come and be welcome in this our rite. Blessed be."

It appears not everyone agrees with Joe Scarborough and Dan Senor that this Republican food fight is good for the party.

Even this nutbag sees what they are doing to themselves. They really believe we are so stupid that we don't see EXACTLY WHO is fouling everything up. I am making a prediction, the deceptiCons will LOSE MORE SEATS IN 2010!!!

although i'm not a libertarian ideologue i do like to listen to ron paul about economics and his criticism of the REPUBLICAN party. that's why the (r) shut him down during the elections because he was revealing the neoCON philosophy of large government, big spending and nation building. i think the (r) will try to capture some of those voters especially the ones that are for real and not the ones that say they're libertarians and vote (r). i'm just dumbfounded that people could actually overlook the fact the two wars we are in were mismanged costly lives and billions of dollars. i can't believe people don't understand the BUSH TAX cuts for the wealthy will cost multi billions just in interest payments.

on how many elections are going to be counted by touchscreen voting machines. During a presidential election year, the voter turnout is much higher than in midterms which makes it much more difficult to cheat because those attempting to do so have a hard time accurately predicting how many people will be voting in any given district. Historically, midterm elections don't have the kind of voter turnout to prevent this.

Really, Newt's just pandering. Just like how the Bush Administration's idea of bipartisanship in 2000 through 2008 was "you Dems do what we tell you, to the letter, and MAYBE we won't call you traitors and terrorist-lovers during the election campaigns," the idea is similar for keeping moderates in the GOP now. "You're free to believe whatever you want, as long as OUTWARDLY, you toe the party line every step of the way. You won't have any influence, you won't have any say and if you question us, we'll have Fox News put a (D) next to your name. Thanks for your support."

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. What Newty said is transparently 661to anyone with even the smallest inkling of how politics play out on the national level in the US.

I can't toss out the New England states and still be in the majority? What is Newt smoking? 50.0000000001%+ is a majority.

The last time I checked the Repugs were doing everything they could to alienate, women--keep them in their place, and be sure to take reproductive control away from them, Latino's--the newest member of the Supreme Court comes to mind, African Americans--we all know they caused the housing crisis-right, poor people--just want everything free--that's what a "public option" means--doesn't it--unions--they ruined the car companies--community organizers--Mickey Mouse votes in every district in every election--twice, Muslims--too many of them--we need to kill more. Regions are the least of their worries.

Newt Gingrich: You Can't Write Off Entire Regions of the Country and Expect to Be a Majority

every now and then, it's not often, Newt Gingrich makes sense. It is infuriating.
