Jebus. Marsha Blackburn won't pull back from the fear mongering on "death panels" and it's even too much for Joe Scarborough to take. Blackburn actually says " but to have that heavy, long arm of the Federal government reach into something that is a very, very personal, personal decision is distasteful to me, and I think it is distasteful to our nation's seniors".

BLACKBURN STATEMENT ON TERRI SCHIAVO BILL
WASHINGTON, DC – Representative Marsha Blackburn (TN-7th District) spoke during debate on the Terri Schiavo legislation, S. 686, Sunday evening. The legislation passed by a bipartisan vote of 203 to 58 early Monday morning.
The following is Blackburn’s statement during debate on the measure:
Mr. Speaker, we all know there are deep emotions involved in this debate tonight.
Earlier many of us met with Terri Schiavo's brother, and I don't think that anyone can truly convey what that family is going through. As a mother, a tragedy of this type is my worst nightmare.
But, Mr. Speaker -- we, this Congress -- we are not here simply because we believe in our hearts that a great mistake is about to be made. We are here because all of us, each and every one of us, Americans, Members of Congress, we all know and we understand that the most basic, most fundamental right guaranteed by our Constitution, is the right to life. And it is our responsibility to
protect that right.
Now, I interpret and a lot of people have looked at the decision by the Florida judiciary and they interpret this as something that says our society, our country should be willing to accept and facilitate the murder of an adult human being, a human being who has not committed any crime at all whatsoever.
I don't think the Founders of our country or our Constitution would agree with that decision, Mr. Speaker. I think it is entirely appropriate that the Federal courts consider this matter, a
matter that so clearly speaks to the core of our belief, the belief that every human being has worth, every human being has a value, and every human being has a right to live.
Our hearts are with Terri Schiavo and her family. Our reason and our intellect are with the Constitution.

That, apparently, is something with which she has no problem, when the person making the decision whether she'll receive treatment may or may not be a doctor, may or may not have her case history, and almost certainly will be rewarded by the number of denials and policy recisions enacted. A 'long heavy arm' answerable to no one but the God of Profit.
Whereas a 'government arm' is answerable to us -- we, the people.

Joe Scarborough was so eager to seem balanced and to debunk the "death panel" argument that he was too willing to accept the the congresswoman's assertion about mandatory end of life counseling. THERE IS NO MANDATORY END OF LIFE COUNSELING UNDER ANY BILL BEING CONSIDERED. The congresswoman was LYING.
Also, the section of the house bill (HR3200) that the Congresswomen directs us to ( and declares at least 3 times contains a "madate")is merely a "mandate" to the Secretary of HHS to update the informational medicare handbook ( which discusses medicare benefits, covered services, etc.) to include info on end of life counseling. Since the bill makes this counseling a covered service, meaning medicare would pay for it, the type of update seems perfectly logical.The quoted section contains no "mandates" on medicare recipients or their doctors.
And we have a region of the country filled to bursting with people just like her. How can we possibly move forward as a country when we are held back by the stupidest and least educated among us?
