On Hannity and Colmes when asked about the Saxby Chambliss victory in Georgia, Mike Huckabee says that the GOP needs to move away from the "squishy middle" and be more conservative. Yeah, that's just what the GOP needs Mike.

Every political party that dreams of having ideological purity and rigid lockstep uniformity has one thing in common---FAILURE. Why is that? Because of the arrogant and self centered notion that because it appeals to you, it should appeal to everybody. Why, I get the message you think to yourself---why don't those other unenlightened rubes get it?
America is actually composed of diverse and unique entities with divergent viewpoints---not just those of paternalistic old white authoritarian males. You Neocon chumps got a clear message from the voters about a month ago--remember? Move toward the center and embrace other viewpoints---or risk being permanently marginalized.

Just what the hell does the marriage issue really have to do with anything important in this country anyway? So 30 damn states votes Liviticus style ... how does that help the average working class family anyway. Does the fact your next door neighbor is gay and in a committed relationship really help or hinder you put food on your table or help or hinder you to get a job? Does the fact that conservatards want to concentrate on civil unions or same sex marriage rather than job creation, a liveable wage, infrastucture, or minding our own business and staying the hell out of the rest of the worlds business help or hurt the average joe or joline in this country.
That is the problem with the rethuglicans in a nutshell. Their party is so damn busy catering to the bias and prejudice of the braindead idiots who no longer can beat up and hate African Americans that the country is busy falling down around our head and shoulders. Our Constitution is being torn to shreds right in front of our eyes by THEM and their hate mongers, and they are screaming to the high heavens about keeping "In God We Trust" on our money, and busy making flag burning an issue every chance they get. Really folks, who honestly believes that "In God We Trust" is in jeopardy? When was the last time you heard about or saw someone in this country burn our flag? Are these really issues any more than gay marriage or womens rights are issues? Or, is the right just using divisiveness and the hateful prejudiced tendancy of their evangelical base to remain powerful so they can go about their real mission of ensuring that business gets every break possible at the expense of the rest of us?
I hate their tactic. As a strong Christ centered Christian, I hate their blasphemy and their using the church to do Satans work. Huckabee should be ashamed of himself, and in Christs time, he would have been stoned or crucified for his shameful, shameful use of lies and deception for political reasons!

I've been saying that for years. The R's have been using religion to stir peoples' fears and create boogey-men. They know that if the cultivate and nurture peoples' fears, they can use the boogey-men to scare people into giving them money and votes. It's that simple.

I am curious though. Here in Texas there seems to be a church on every street corner. Most of them are indeed Baptist. But on one street corner, they have four places of worship facing each other, an Eastern Orthodox and a Roman Catholic church, a Jewish Synagogue and a Muslim Mosque.
How true is that in other states?
I can tell you, in Canada, we've got everything under the sun. Hari Krisha chanting in front of all denominations, right next to each other in the same block. I like it.
Let the Republicans become more conservative. Let them think Sarah Palin is okay for a middle-of-the-road conservative. Let them become an American Taliban.

Yes! I encourage all republicans to actively purge any "squishy" moderates out of their party! Palin should lead the charge. Supported by Rush, Billo, Coulter, Hannity, Dobson, Newt, Malin and all the other people that foam at the mouth.
Their problem wasn't the corruption they supported. It wasn't the failure of their philosophy. It was simply that they weren't strident enough. They weren't mean, nasty and divisive enough.
They were all just victims of that mean nasty liberal MSM that continued to harp on the republican failures and corruption... it wasn't the failure or corruption itself.

Huckabee was on NPR the other day and said the same thing. He used the old canard about how when Republicans run as mushy moderates they lose. When they run as right wing fascists (my paraphrasing) they win.
What the Huckster seems to forget is that in 2006 most extremist Republicans lost. The same happened in 2008. He also ignores that Bush ran as a moderate in 2000 and as a War President in 2004. Nixon ran as a moderate in '68 and as a criminal in '72. The only Republicans to run as extremists were Reagan (who benefited from the Nixon/Ford recession that ran through Carter's administration) and Dole (who got his ass whipped).
Bottom Line: Let the Repubs rally around the Huckster and they'll keep losing. If they'll moderate their agenda they may, in time, become relevant. If so, I look forward to that happening as their appeal would become more cerebral and less racist.
And we see Huckleberry's true colors. Fortunately, few were fooled during the primaries, when he was putting on airs of normality and compassion, just in case he later had to garner the support of the DFHs.
Torture? Preemptive war? Mass media disinformation? Jailing political rivals like Governor Siegelman? Nothing more squishy than that. Time to get tough and quit this child's play.
And a hardy "Sieg Heil, y'all!" to that. Literally. What Rove wasn't able to instill into the hearts of the American people was a genuine Nazi sentiment. So, anyone who thinks what the Republicans are lacking is a strong ideology that resonates with the public makes me nervous.

Huckabee is dangerous because he is such a good politician. He has a nice sense of humor, a ready smile and a folksy charm. But beneath all that, lies a religious fascist that would put this nation back in the middle ages.

When "hucky" was running in the primary I was blown away at his "joke" about shooting people that opposed him. Dumbfounded that in this day and age, in this environment that an ordained minister and a supposedly serious candidate for the highest office in our nation thought he was being witty when he was "joking".

As far as I am concerned we in America, around the globe actually, will be wrestling these right wing ideologues until the end of the world if we do not accept or investigate the idea there are sociopaths in the world and there are sociopathic ideologies. We could use metaphors like a healthy ideology is one which embraces life where a non-healthy ideology squeezes life, like a boa. On the surface the two actions seem the same but upon investigation it is easy to realize the sharp difference. Liberals seem to suffer from their own PC tendencies in being unable to call a snake a snake (no bad intentions to snakes of course) or being so willing to accept all opinions. History teaches us that certain humans will in fact kill and enslave other humans for their own purposes based in their beliefs or ideologies. Chris Hedges (in American Fascists) points out the truth that if tolerant folks tolerate everyone, eventually they will tolerate the intolerant, who will not tolerate them. The intolerant will have no problem kicking the tolerant out on their asses (I may have paraphrased that). Huckabee must also own up to his dominionist leanings which by any measure are distinctly anti-american in their willingness to deny rights based on a holy script. Guys like Hucky and Newt, Rush, Hannity, Coulter, even Palin really should be ostracized ideologically. Let them live peacefully if they can but, we must be very clear in our response to this toxic noise from the right at this time.
Also, this anti-christ business has me confused. For me the Christ represents life and creativity, love and compassion. The anti-christ represents the opposite. So taking all the words and proclamations of our current cast of right wing characters, doesn't the right more resemble the idea of an anti-christ? Huckabee comes in like a preacher for Jesus but what is his real agenda?
The survivalists and neoNazis who, while fellow travelers with the ultra-rightest endtimers, aren't particularly religious. They'd love the concept. Especially if someone subsidized the helicopter.
I really hope the Palin/Huckabee side of the Republican Party wins this struggle. It's the rational-sounding so-called "moderates" who make the party viable-- and secure the big corporate funding. Let them run one Palin, Huckabee, and Santorum after another-- they'll never win another election outside of the deep south.
If you look at the Daily KOS 2004-2008 R vs D electoral change map, the only places that voted more Republican since 2004 were the solid south and the midwest, up to about Kansas. Even Utah trended more blue this year.
Look forward to the 2012 map being about the same or even a little less red than 2008. Maybe Obama/Biden will flip MT, ND, and SD next time around, but look to Palin/Huck keeping the racist states and not being in play anywhere else.
Huckabee and Palin should form their own party - the "Psycho Jesusfreak Party" aka the PJP. Rather than try and steer the Republican party to do what they want, if they are so confident that America wants some ignorant bible thumping know nothing dorks in the white house, then their party will sweep them into office, trailing clouds of glory!

Right now, the leading contenders for the Republican Presidential nominee in 2012 appear to be Newt Gingrich, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney and Sarah Palin all of whom are vowing to take the party back to it's more conservative roots. We can only hope that this turns out to be the case - the ass kicking they took in November will look like a walk in the park in comparison.
Especially when you consider that McCain was much more likeable than any of these morons.

Huckabee is a mild mannered wolf in sheeps clothing. His demure pleasant presenatation of his opionions ignores facts and realities (understandably for political expediency).
Many Americans have fallen prey to this soft spoken good listener (though listening is not a virtue of and it itself). He may be a good listener; but, he is definitely a fundi with worse hair than Palin and callous heels (not from wearing heels). Callous heels from digging his feet in and spewing the same old trite conservative failure of a lie that has been thrown at us since Nixon and Reagan. It's the same pig, with a different shade of lipstick. New packaging does not make for disputing it's evident failure this past eight years. Huckabee stands on issues and polocies have nothing remotely different from past GOP platforms or stances (Can you say George W. revisited). He is well received by those Americans who like to have their distortions and lies fed to them; kind of like a Fox News listeners or ditto heads.
It is not surprising that he believes conservative ways should be the oder of the day; but just wait, when he runs for president I am sure he will have some slogan with the word "change" in it. I suppose by then it will be change from the four years of Obama.
He is savvy politician, with the monotone inflection of a valium addict, which its listeners can become quite addicted to. His claim to fame will be that he holds grudges ( and has quite a few with several Republicans) and he will viciously and yet gracefully attack his fellow GOP candidates in 2012. I can hear it now grudges translated in to "the real maverick". There is one thing he doesn't have. Mitt Romney will make mince meat out of him with his money. Mitt Romney has already bribed the darling conservative small "c" christian base with his successful interdiction of a campaign against Prop 8 in California; and the piper is ready to collect on his capital.
Romney support will be relegated to the easily deceived and equally easily charmed Americans from other than the south ( those southern white christians will never accept a Mormon as other that a cult follower and not a true Chrisitian).
Huckabee's conservative pandering does not go unnoticed; the GOP is truely confused about ever supporting a Mormon, I mean Romney. Good move on Huckabee's part to sing conservative praises this early on.
Huckabee's next move should be to mentor to Palin for the next four years. Now there's a ticket that the base can sink their teeth into.
Between Chambliss, Huckabee, Romney, Gingrich and who ever else has aspirtions for the presidency; the ticket, at least as far as the base is concerned, is nabbing the support of Sarah Palin. Conviencing her that she should not be the top of the ticket will be another matter all together.
It must suck to be a future presidential GOP candidate about now.
