On This Week with George Stephanopoulos, Michelle Malkin tries to claim that the tea party movement is grass roots, and that it's 1993 all over again with health care reform.

Malkin: It's going to be a monumental month on the ground, and we've seen this percolating since February, and I've been covering the tea party movement, these counter-insurgencies on tax payer rights groups, and I think that this administration and the Democrats have vastly underestimated just how grass roots this movement is. And I think it's been, I think it's been comforting to think that it comes from the top...

Stephanopoulos: And it's a grass roots movement organized around what? What is the issue?

Malkin: Around larger government, reckless spending, and not only the redistribution of wealth, but now the redistribution of health. And I think that the White House has failed to counter the basic notion that people's health care "rights" or entitlements are going to be redistributed by social engineers. And we've seen these "town halls gone wild", that's the phrase now and I think as these law makers go back they're going to face the heat. These You Tube videos are viral, and to me it's actually very reminiscent of Hillary-Care fifteen years ago today. You probably remember this. When Hillary went to Seattle to sell the health care plan it was really a turning point when she was booed, directly, and I'm, I lived and reported in Seattle for three years. That was an extraordinary event. And we're going to see a replay of that.

The other guests go on to explain why these times have very little in common with 1993 when Hillary Clinton was trying to push health care reform.

Think Progress has the break down on how absurd Malkin's remarks are trying to claim that the tea bag movement is even remotely a grass roots one. Media Matters has some rebuttal on her new book: Malkin distorts Michelle Obama biography to attack her and her father as corrupt.

...what this dimwit has to say anyhow?

Oh yeah, that's right - the propaganda machine that keeps booking her on MSM programs.

Malkin is harping on yesturday's news - everyone knows it's an astro-turf movement, not grass roots.

The tea party doesn't qualify as a bowel movement.

The colonists disrupted the sale of tea by throwing it overboard. These clowns aren't disrupting anything. They're just whining.

Malkin...I betcha she's one of those girls that would go to metal/hardcore shows and was all into the skinheads, and got passed around like a cigarette in prison and never realized or admitted to herself that know matter how many she fucked, she's never be one of them...
I think that might be part of what makes her so crazy bitter.

George Step-on-an-octopus, should be embarrassed and ashamed to have had her on his show. She knows damned well this whole tea bag shit was put together by people who saw a benefit for themselves and the baggers were truly used as their tools. The baggers are just too stupid to see how they are being used and how stupid they look. They are protesting against their own good. Idiots all.

Exactly patricia. The same thing happened with the Greensboro massacre. The CWP was trying to rally the low income people to unionize the textile industry. Wages were very low in the area and the CWP was trying to improve that. It didn't turn out to well and a lot of those same type people are teabaggers and birthers.

I think he attempted to say something like "thats a valid point" when she finished babbling, as politely as he could - without rolling his eyes - just out of some sense of respect and/or good manners ...

but I thought he looked pretty annoyed throughout.

Then why the hell have her on the show in the first place? I mean, really. Is Stephie such a wimp that he can't even stand up for the dignity of his own show? It's obviously strictly about the fame and the paycheck for him, so he's not going to rock any boats. No one with any self-respect and integrity would ever allow that crazy woman on their show.

She's some work of art. I really liked the "Government cheese" line she used. You can see the boys are Red State getting a chubbie in their Batman underwear when she said it.
ABC, why have her on? She's not going to say anything intellegent. She's not newsworthy - she's going to spew out the standard rightwing lines.
I didn't watch ABC yesterday. I got the info about the fiasco from C & L and other websites. I don't watch George unless he has Krugman on.

Why does ABC have her on??

Why does ABC have her on??

Well, probably for the same reason they booted Dr. David Scheiner off of their "Town Hall Forum On Health Care: Prescription for America".

They got wind of the fact that he supports a Medicare for All health care system and was going to say so. That he is a proponent of Conyers H.R. 676. That program had ZERO comments about Single Payer, "Medicare for All". Zip. Nada. None. CENSORED.

ABC is a tool of corporate America and they do NOT want to see their fellow corporations get stiffed out of their precious profits should a Medicare for All....Single Payer system ever be adopted in this country.

THAT is why they keep having tools of the Republicans on their shows and NOT doctors like David Scheiner (who was Obama's personal physician for over twenty years BTW).

Abbywood,
I agree completely. I know why they do it. I know they won't put anyone from the progressive side on. God forbid! Cokie might have an aneurysm having a new idea penetrate that thick cranium. Will's toupee might spin like a propeller.
My larger point was why put on this insipid gasbag who not only doesn't bring anything new, she's not even entertaining in not bringing it.

How are the tea baggers who have lost their jobs going to feel about Michelle calling them lazy because they enjoy being on unemployment for as long as they can?

Say what you mean. Mean what you say. But don't say it mean.

By having on extremists like Malkin, they focus on the only demographic that counts. Right wing nutcases who, in addition to carrying the water for the elites, also spend their small disposable incomes on the $19.95 informercial products that are sold on those same networks in the early AM.

"Anyone that makes less than $150K in this country, has no business voting Republican."

She's used to being treated like a wise queen on Fox, but then on this show the other guests are looking at her like she's someone who escaped from a mental institution. They don't want to be rude to her and tell her she's full of shit, so they just sort of talk around her. She came all perky and ready to be adored but they didn't even invite her to eat at the adult table.

second of all...you need to quit filing income tax returns, and I know Beck or Malkin don't have the balls for that so...

Third of all to be a teabagger you have to hate both Neo Libs and Neo cons, ...and of course they both fail at that too.

I'm about to lose my health insurance and everytime i look at the news and see all these inmoral liars and thieves it just puts my anxiety wayy...wayyy up. I can maybe say I was sane while i was ignorant on how the system works, if you don't know it doesn't affect you kinda thing.

Did anyone else notice the way Malkin talked about the Health Czar meetings? How she said people have a "sense of lack of trust" because it took a lawsuit to get the names of those attending the meetings, and that the Czar had ties to the health industry? Is she so dumb that she doesn't remember Cheney (ties to the oil industry) and his secret energy meetings at the begining of Bush's first term? She didn't seem to have any problem with THOSE meetings. I can't believe someone else on the panel didn't call her on that.

Also, if you think about it, back when Hillary tried to introduce national health care in the 90's, the Republican response wasn't a different proposal, it was Whitewater, which took the national focus off the important issue. Now, its "birthers" and teabags. Karl Rove is a proud man.

oldtree's picture

She really gets it. She wants to be a Taliban and is emulating their every aim!
Counter Insurgency to the government of the US is a crime, and the charges they name accordingly. Death by hanging is a popular conclusion to each of their proscribed punishments if convicted.

I can't f**king believe I'm seeing this whacko on "This Week!" It's insane that this cartoon character gets a panel spot on a Sunday morning show. Are you kidding me, George? You've totally lost the plot.

Further proof that you can be an whacked-out, maniacal partisan and get all the airtime you want... as long as you're a conservative. Outspoken liberals need not ever apply.

Interesting how these right wing dolts had no problem with Bush's massive expansion of executive powers, and running us trillions of dollars into debt.... (and righties were strong supporters of these policies)

Given their support of GW Bush, do these right wingers have ANY credibility when they come after Obama?

Anytime a right winger calls obama a reckless spender, remind them of GW Bush....

No, of course they don't have a SHRED of credibility. So why the hell do they keep showing up on my TV?!! How can you invite a known nutcase like Malkin on your Sunday morning show and still pretend to have one ounce of dignity or credibility? The TV world has gone stark raving mad.

One of Malkin's children can grow up, get a job with benefits, have a rich kid accident the day his insurance kicks in and his ass gets taken care of. Never mind the kid is years from having paid his way. In the meantime thousands who have been paying into the system for 20, 30, maybe even 40 years, many who have never filed a claim, have lost their insurance. Twits like Malkin don’t have any problem with that. They are moochers and what they are complaining about is their special people way of mooching is being threatened. Her ilk reminds me of Soviet era bureaucrats who got deluxe health care on everyone else’s ruble while healthcare was a crap shoot for the average citizen.
