Meet Paul Ryan's Democratic Challenger in WI-01, Rob Zerban
Rep. Paul Ryan and the unpopularity of his budget plan in Wisconsin may mean we finally see a Democrat get elected to his district, and now he's got a Democratic challenger, current Kenosha County Supervisor Rob Zerban. In his first television appearance, Zerban discussed his candidacy with The Nation's Chris Hayes, filling in for Lawrence O'Donnell.
PvtJarHead at Daily KOS has more on Zerban, so go check out the entire diary -- Who Can Stop Paul Ryan? Rob Zerban!.
You can sign Zerban's petition here -- Tell Paul Ryan "HANDS OFF MY GRANDMA".
And you can donate to Rob Zerban's campaign at his Act Blue page.

Heather, Pink Slip Paul............excellent.
The first casualty of republicanism is the truth.
Party politics are not only undemocratic, they are antidemocratic.
Does this guy have any chance of winning?
My guess is that it will largely depend on how the budget goes down. I think if the Medicare thing comes to pass (which at this point looks highly unlikely), then he'd put himself at serious risk. I have no idea what his district looks like, but I'd imagine that he'd have plenty of pissed off old people.
If the Medicare thing doesn't make it into the budget, then he can always say that he was leading high knowing that he'd have to ultimately compromise. I don't know if that would convince people to keep voting for him, but I know that's how I'd spin it if I were a politician.

There will be lots of pissed off middle aged people who've paid Medicare taxes for decades and now find all they'll get for their money is a lousy voucher.
all get behind him and contribute, blog and support!
His candidacy is likely doomed once the Koch Bros. et al start dropping loads and loads of money for Ryan and convince the mouth breathing low info independent voter that he's really good for them.
Yup , I am afraid that you're right , I saw on the Maddow show the other night that they are already buying air time and putting out false ads telling the ignorant and gullible that Ryan's so called budget plan actually strengthens medicare , we ain't seen nothing yet , wait until 2012 .

We need as many good progressive politicians representing the people as we can get. To send Ryan packing would be icing on the cake. It would be good to send a strong message to the GOP. Bury Ryan - big time.

I've heard that 20 years' service in the House qualifies a Representative for generous retirement benefits as well as government-paid healthcare insurance. Does Ryan collect full House retirement and other benefits if he doesn't serve 20 years?
I think the answer to that is no.

The 2010 election will probably go down as the biggest misinterpretation of a mandate ever. The GOP ran heavily on jobs, jobs, jobs and were rewarded for it. Now it turns out that they thought that meant they had a mandate to gut Medicare, kill Social Security, orchestrate a government takeover of all uteri, and break the unions. The funniest thing is seeing the looks on their faces as they go to these town hall meetings. They really did think that the over 55 crowd would praise them and hoist them up on their shoulders for killing Medicare.
Rob Zerban is all well and good but the people who actually do the voting are who matters. I would vote for this guy in a heart beat but what about the people in his district? Now would be a good time to get out in his district and plant the seeds that Ryan is a turd. Professional campaigners should know all this. Sometimes I don't think they are as smart as they should be.
Dem up!!! Let's get it!!
Pink-slip Ryan!
This Dem better get some passion and wit going if he plans on winning. Being wallpaper will not get the job done...
The trouble is that they are being wall paper for a reason , the traditional Democratic party is about dead and gone , what we have now are moderate Republicans and radical Republicans .
"The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all."
I put one hundred dollar bet down right now that Obama campaigns for Ryan and denies funding the democrat.
In fact, I think it's gonna be a hard election year all around for democrats. I think Obama is gonna hoard as much campaign money as the party brings in just to make sure he gets reelected. And what's left for democrats, he's gonna target specific ones that have been beneficial to him (sorry Bernie, it was a nice run) and target those that have gone against. The man is bad news.
Rather than challenging the establishment, and finding a candidate who might actually work to effect change, C&L just pimps the next person in the (D) line, who if he wins somehow, will not represent your interests either. Insanity/repeat etc.
This guy needs some serious counseling in message delivery. ryan should be a sitting duck.
Chris Hayes almost had to cue the talking points for him. He should have three to five serious articulations on why he should be sent to washington to replace ryan and what his candidacy would mean to benefit the people of Wisconsin. He was flaccid and pretty much blew his chance to have a national audience send a contribution, and he will be up against koch ca$h.
I think we, the people in the 1st Congressional District, have had enough of Pink Slip Paul. He has not done one thing that has benefited HIS district. And frankly, I don't know why the people here are still voting for him.
For the first time, in a long time, we have a *real* challenger! Rob Zerban may not be the most professional speaker (YET!), but from what I understand, this was his very first interview on TV. I think, he did pretty well. (Yes, "myshadow", I agree, there is room for improvement when it comes to messaging.)
At the same time, what good does it do if you have a slick and eloquent speaker like Ryan that lies, deceives, and manipulates....
Sorry, I forgot to mention:
Another point that I would like to make is that while Paul Ryan has all the corporate money in this nation behind him, it is STILL the voters that get him into office!

... if he runs on just two issues: campaign finance reform and single payer health care. He MUST explain why CFR is so vital and why S-P is cheaper than our for-profit system.
And then the Democrats have to come out in droves.
