MSNBC's coverage immediately following Jindal's speech. From what we've heard so far tonight it doesn't look like anyone was too impressed with it. For some more fun here's Think Progress' mash up of the speech and the reaction over at Fox News.

Rachel's reaction matched my own after watching Jindal. Matthews did a good job at pointing out the absurdity of it all. But, I still feel David Books said it best on PBS: "The worst rebuttal in history... totally out of touch with the reality of the times... The best thing to happen for Obama all night."

Jindal just proved to America that the Republican Party has fallen and can't get up.

redjalapeno's picture

that Juan Williams actually made sense until he began to talk about the last part of Jindal's speech. It's the things that Williams found traction with that has doomed the Republican ideology.

Please also call Gov Jindal's office in LA, please ask him to release a statement of clarification regarding his attempt at humour, that a pre-existing condition is no laughing matter !! 225-342-0991

-Please call him

Stupid Git's picture

Or watched the Half-Hour News Hour, An American Carol or heard Barack the Magic Negro?

By those standards, the 'pre-existing condition' joke is hilarious.

Even Fox News couldn't, and wouldn't, save him. I had the same reaction as RM. Flabbergasting.

That's all they GOT sir! :) Have to dig around for SOMETHING after we witness the complete implosion of any chance the republic party has in the future. Let them feed their followers their bat-shit crazy comments. Let them run with it all the way to Fox news. Won't make any difference, as this is just another nail in the GOP coffin.

is that the 10,000+ Dow was just bloated bullshit driven by extending debt and credit into the next century.

The 10,000+ Dow was a bubble..just like real estate, driven by a failed economic policy, rampant misguided deregulation and crony capitalism.

Obama didn't kill the market...as you seem to imply...it collapsed under its own weight...just as our supply side bullshit driven economy has.

Wall Street is doing what it is doing becasue Wall Street knows that Wall Street has screwed up the economy as bad as it can be screwed up. If Busy was still there Wall Street would be at 5000. this is all on Bush. Make no mistake. Bush is the cause of this.

the 10,000+ dow, though not a myth, isn't normal. the market was driven by an obsured housing market and isn't likely to pass 10,000 again, or at least no time soon. we need to hope that it stablizes, once it does, investors will get back in the "game". get people working again or feeling safe from layoffs and they will start spending money.

So in other words Wall Street hasn't had the chance to respond yet since the speech came after closure, and they're reacting to other factors.

Real players also know there are many more factors than a political speech at work here too.

We could start recovering, but if Japan's or England's doesn't that could cause Wall Street to start faltering again. Or if OPEC cuts production again, or there's a general strike somewhere...

the page character on the TV show 30-Rock who comes from some backwoods place full of superstitions and silly ideas. It's bizarre how similar they sound and so apropos after listening to the "substance" (or lack thereof) of his rebuttal.

Jindal says that big government is the problem, and "the American spirit has triumphed over almost every form of adversity."
However, his examples are all massive government programs:
"This is the nation that cast off the scourge of slavery ... overcame the Great Depression ... prevailed in two World Wars ... won the struggle for civil rights ... defeated the Soviet menace ... and responded with determined courage to the attacks of September 11, 2001." Republicans argue about what helped us out of the Depression,
but is war won by "restrained spending in Washington, and empowered individuals and small businesses?"

Rachel speechless, Tweety right on point. I watched the Fox news follow-up and what did THEY talk about? The cadence of the speech and the fact he had to follow Obama. Ron Paul just “blew up” CNBC. They had cut to what they thought was going to be the testimony of Bernanke before a Congressional Committee, and Barney Frank threw it to Ron Paul for a two-minute opening statement, which CNBC aired live at about 10:13 a.m. EST. Paul ripped the existing system, revealed the globalist’s plan for the pending international (single fiat currency) system which is set to replace the dollar system, and proclaimed that it will not work.

CNBC came back to the studio, where Mark Haynes said:

“This is not going according to plan. They were supposed to limit opening statements, so we’re going to go to commercial and return when the testimony of Bernanke begins.”

After Obama's speech to see what they were saying. Hammity was on the red herring rampage about the swamp mouse thing for a good long tear--it was live, and there was nothing he wanted to touch with a ten-foot-pole on what Obama said. (How could he? Obama didn't just hit a home run at the 7th game of the world series bottom of the ninth two outs, that was the definition of "grand slam.")

Later, long after Jindal spoke, the generic heads were whining about Keith Olberman's audible "Oh my God" after he introduced Jindal and the young Republican wunderboy came out looking like a kindergartener who had to make something up for show and tell b/c he didn't bring anything from home that morning.
